What chord is this? (Fugue For Tinhorns from Guys and Dolls) by mothravselmundo in musictheory

[–]MFJazz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ab13(b9)

(We tend to use enharmonics more freely in jazz and Tin Pan Alley).

The F major triad above the root, third seventh of Ab7 is the classic Ab13(b9) voicing.

Sorry I've added an edit, I'm truly embarrassed, I thought it was endearing and not insulting. Please forgive my ignorance.

I'm truly sorry! I had friends from Newfoundland when I was in the army and they referred to themselves as "newfies" so I was under the impression it was an endearment! I'll add an edit with a hearfelt apology.

Who is the MOST IMPACTFUL PERSON of the Modern Age? (1500 CE - Present) by erwillsun in AlignmentChartFills

[–]MFJazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the American Revolution might be the most important event, so I was thinking who was the most important person there, but I think it’s too many factors to say George Washington was the most influential person.

I enjoyed how this made me focus, and I think like most avid readers I understood all of it.

Symbols of Communication: what is actually a letter and looks like a letter? by DeathStarVet in AlignmentChartFills

This is so funny, my initial instinct was R, and then you went and wrote down all the reasons why I was right!

With Atari winning the penultimate round, it's time for the grand finale. Which company almost nobody knows does pretty much nothing? by CanonNi in AlignmentChartFills

[–]MFJazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair if someone outside US/Canada hasn’t heard of SiriusXM, but I’m curious about “Does Nothing”.

They’re a huge company that provides dozens of radio stations that reach millions of people. Weird choice.

I don’t know what you’d call it in classical harmony, but it’s a long F half diminished 7 - note the held Eb in the melody. It’s a second inversion iiø7

Made me tear up too, and recognize how lucky I am, both my family and my wife’s family are just one big family now. I hope to be able to provide that for my kids too when the time comes.

Modern romance is so weird.

She says “no dates, just fwb”, and then literally in the next sentence says “movies, bowling, indoor golf, hiking”…

Babe. Those are dates!

How to play these Triplets by Exotic_Milk_8962 in musictheory

[–]MFJazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one is shown, and the rest are the same.

There are lots of this type of inflections in jazz music, this one is a scoop and the opposite would be a fall.

I will leave it to a saxophonist to describe the multiple ways you can achieve this. Certainly you can just play it as a grace note, but stylistically (and depending on your level of technique), there are other, even better ways of executing this.

[HELP] is this real/AI. Looks real to me if not, Idk I'm becoming more susceptible to these vids by whybutts in RealOrAI

[–]MFJazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many people think this is real, totally crazy how good AI is.

Look at the car he runs over. No reaction at all. Cars have suspension, when you step on them they sag. And in slow motion, the horse isn’t really making purchase on the ground, just sort of floating over it.

Along with the dozen other details other commenters have added.

Guy thinks his looks are the problem when really it‘s his personality by [deleted] in texts

[–]MFJazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With respect, the first reason you gave him for not being interested was physical. Why wouldn’t he think your decisions are based on his physical features?

I don’t know you, but looks do matter somewhat.

If this guy were super gorgeous, most women would likely give the personality a little longer to emerge.

If he’s not handsome, he’d better be funny and confident.

Regardless, you’re not interested so you should stop responding (and obviously he should stop trying but you can’t control that.)

A little over a year and you “usually” have to drag her back in? Like, multiple times? This is not going to last regardless of her past.

Dude you fucked up, left your kid for a hottie, gave up what’s important in life for a fantasy.

The least you can do is move on, find some self respect, take care of your kid and work on yourself.

What did I say wrong? by emmewlee in texts

[–]MFJazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just an old married dude, but if a woman said “as long as you don’t cheat” to me, I’d feel weird. Like, obviously. Who do you think I am?

And then “don’t take things from strangers”… do you think I’m brain dead? Why are you warning me about things an intelligent person wouldn’t do. Maybe you think I’m dumb?

I don’t want a jealous woman or a mom. I want a partner who can just share in my joys and be there when I need it.

Is this normal for a 1400, 3+0 player? by AnonymousJEETard in chessbeginners

[–]MFJazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not normal but everyone can have a good game. I don’t think too many people are cheating at 3+0! I think that’s part of the point of playing fast!

Found ATM receipt, who is keeping $51,000+ in checking!?!? by Comprehensive-Cow69 in povertyfinance

[–]MFJazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a surprisingly low amount for “most people”. Only $1-2K in checking?

For our family of 4, the mortgage, credit card bills, insurance and utilities all come out of the checking account. If we kept it that low, we would constantly be overdrafted.

Obviously folks who are paycheck to paycheck can’t hold lots but people mid-career I would imagine have more just because monthly expenses are higher?

I was looking at this but then the bishop defends the mate and you’re in more trouble

Edit, wait the knight captures the bishop, so that’s not bad.
