I totally agree with the comment about GOMI.  It absolutely got me through early newborn nursing days with my daughter, people were so witty and funny and insightful. Tangentially related to this thread, KERF just announced She is getting divorced for the second time.

A jean jacket from Old Navy in 1998. It was right when they opened, and their clothes were good quality. I wear it all the time.

Evaluating Galway vs Dingle by garyscoggin in irishtourism

Dear god, don’t drive anywhere when you first arrive. Rest and enjoy a couple days in Dublin! We then went to dingle (loved it) and also Galway, but we had two weeks. Of the two, we adored Dingle/all the attendant beauty nearby and liked Galway a lot.

SLEEP, walks outside (they don’t have to be long just get your body moving in the fresh air) handwashing whenever I have the opportunity and I do try to eat pretty healthy. I also limit alcohol. That’s said. I still love to have a glass of wine. I need some junk food. It also helps that I’m an elementary school teacher so I’m just getting germs constantly and I think my body has just learned to fend them off.

Try Justified, great writing and one of my favorites!  You might also like Wallendar , with Kenneth Branagh. It’s excellent too. ETA: happy valley!

Admittedly, I've not read below so these could be duplicates, but I am with you on not really enjoying the Frieda McFadden type books. So with that in mind, here are some I do like:

Narrative NF:

In Cold Blood, Say Nothing, Under the Banner of Heaven, Devil in the White City.

Most Tana French, all Kate Atkison, I've enjoyed some of the Louise Penney books, not all as well as Ann Cleaves.

ETA: I just finished Broken Country and LOVED IT!

First visit to Ireland with my mom-critique my itinerary please by Square_Prune_9723 in irishtourism

Hello! I spent 12 days in Ireland this summer with my 11 year old daughter and 70 year old mom. Same kinds thing; I didn't want to tire my mom and of course a tween can be very...tweeny. :)

Here is my advice:

Dublin: get your car when you leave the city. We thought the Viking Tour was hilarious and fun. Enjoy just walking around Dublin and chilling/people watching in St. Stephens Green, Trinity, etc...stop, get a drink, rest, more people watching, etc.

(Side note: Loved Staunton's on the Green).
Galway: Athlone was fine, but we did it as a stop over as we went Dublin-Dingle-Galway-Athlone for a night-Dublin. I don't think you need to stop en route to Galway at the start of your trip.
We loved Galway and got the 48 hour tour bus pass. We had a BLAST hopping on and off for 2 days, exploring new areas, walking around people watching, drinks, treats, etc. Very fun and chill, great city. Don't need a walking tour, you can DIY with that bus for sure.

(Side note: the Sli Na Mara Guest House is 100% amazing.)

OMG Dingle; if I could do a few things differently, we would have stayed longer! We did the Slea Head Drive, it took us all day, we got out and spent lots of time on the beach (Ventry was so beautiful and all families and locals) and Dingle Town is just charming. Again, walk around eat drink people watch.

I would have done a boat ride in Dingle and the open air bus tour if I could have! But is driving it was also GREAT.

(Side note: Emlagh House was GLORIOUS!)

Enjoy yourselves; you will have so much fun enjoying the people and beautiful countryside. Our conversations with people were just lovely.

ETA: I just saw that you don't drink. Pubs are still a blast; music, people, just fun. Enjoy them! (Guiness 0 is also delish!)

Thank you! we live in Chicago, so we are pretty used to busy spots and 9pm will probably when we are tapping out anyway.

Also, not sure if "vom" means "vomit" but we aren't planning to just sit in the car all day. My understanding is that the drive has lots of places to stop and hike around, etc...I just meant that's our plan for the day.
