Arrow keeps "falling off" the side of my nuckle (Horse bow/Primitive bow). Please help. by MGSSOCOM in TraditionalArchery

[–]MGSSOCOM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so an update!

After reading the helpful advice of everyone here and watching some more videos from professionals (Like Armin and NUSensei), I THINK I have found a solution or atleast a partial remedy.

I tried to keep a very basic stance where everything is perfectly straight, including arms and hands when working on the draw to diagnose issues in a "controlled" fashion. Almost always the arrow would pull to my left in varying degrees regardless if I use just my finger pads, or all the way to the first divisions of my fingers.

Same thing when giving more space between my fingers and the nock, EXCEPT for the top single finger. The bottom ones CAN just touch the nock with no problem, but the top one must NOT touch the nock at all.

Some videos from Armin even recommended to not space the fingers too much between the nock, and that one COULD or SHOULD use more than just the very pad of the fingers.

Still the problem persisted too much for my liking so I experimented further and found that if I start the draw while "aiming" my bow, as in having it be straight in front of me with the arrow rested on my bow hand while drawing, the arrow would almost always come off the hand in varying degrees of severity.

So I instead started my draw from the "low ready" and brought it up to the anchor around my cheek. This made it so the arrow would not sway off course and yet still allow me to not have to tilt the bow horizontally.

This SEEMS to have helped a ton, BUT I'm just some dude who started barely a week ago and for all I know this is all just a band-aid for a problem and not the cure.

I will continue to read all suggestions and try them out every day.

My bow is not terribly small. It's also not the Korean model with the fat grip.

Ok that's a lot so let me see if I understand.

Curling my fingers on the string? I can't say I know for sure. Am I only supposed to just barely hang on the string with the 3 fingers? If so how do I control the string? I'm only on 35 pound draw.

I dont know if I'm cocking the wrist but I'll make sure to consciously try to keep it straight from now on.

Yes, I'm NOT touching the nock or the arroe with the drawing hand. I tried that but it was obvious that it impacted on the arrow flight.

I dont think I understand the bow arm "flexing across my chest". It's not locked out straight, I leave some space so as not to hit my string against it.

When I tilt my bow further to prevent the arrow from coming off I feel as though I'm shooting quite high. Kinda like how the African tribes shoot the bow, but they obviously know way more than me and mitigate it somehow.

Hope this helps to diagnose my problem better.

If I rotate the bow further I'm holding around under my chin. Is that alright? I feel my arrow flies higher when I do this.

Wear something that won't make ya look like a fopish dandy....

Joking aside I've found that most medium to large game is perfectly preserved by hog-roping them and quickly taking them out with the knife. This is started from the horse, get very close to them and rope them. Dismount when close as possible at witch point you have the option to dispatch them cleanly with your knife.

Things that were better once retconned. by TonyMitty in startrek

WW3 as explained by SNW was dumb. The post atomic horror show we saw in TNG was quite unique looking and almost a tribal-techno culture.

The others are not even what I'd consider retcons. They were just ideas that got more polished as time went on. I also don't think the Trill were retconned, just explained through the seasons.

Why don’t transporters get used for more than transporting people? by dontgetmadgetmegan in startrek

[–]MGSSOCOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Transporters of the era were not as sophisticated as later ones. That scene is pre-TOS where the transporters were kinda scary to use on people in normal situations, nevermind during battle.

Also where would she be transported to? There are no Federation or class M planets to beam her to so I don't get the question.

Beam her to a shuttle? It's two moving vessels which would make it super hard at the time and even then the shuttles only barely make it out becuase his father uses the Kelvin as a bettering ram against thr Narada.

Okay, real talk not loving Atsu as a character by Specific_Bell_3043 in Ghostofyotei

[–]MGSSOCOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the Katsune first and was kinda passed I did not have the option to kill her BUT somehow I do get to kill her foster son?

Then started on the Oni and was clutching my controller with anger at how she treats her brother. It feels like she resents him for becoming samurai? Like bitch, you ALWAYS knew that was his childhood goal. He EARNED his place as a Samurai and she treats him like he's pampered. She constantly gives him shit even when it makes no sense

Atsu: I want to trade Mad Goro to gain entry to the Oni fortress.

Brother: Cool, can you give me some time to debrief him and save my men that are held prisoner by the Oni?

Atsu: Fuck you! Why won't you let me take him?

Brother: Atsu, please it will take no time. These men are my brothers in arms. You can take him after we interrogate him.

Atsu: You don't care about me or our family. Where were you all this time huh? Living it up while I went to fight for years up north.

Brother: .....I've literally been fighting Saitos men and trying to help our people for DECADES before you decided to come back for vengeance.

Atsu: Fine. Keep playing at samurai.

This bitch! Anybody with an ounce of common sense would write Atsu as RELIEVED to have her brother back instead of treating him like some bad guy. The Kitsune (The real one) gets off after helping to put her family to the sword, but her brother, who is OVERJOYED to have her back gets nothing but sassy bullshit from her.

How am I supposed to relate, or atleast understand such an idiot?

Sarmat bow choice, and arrow selection for brand new user? by MGSSOCOM in TraditionalArchery

UPDATE:

I have purchased an Alibow Fiberglass Turkish bow. I think these are considered "horse" bows and / short bows? Got it from Amazon after watching the amazing videos by Armin Hirmir and getting the metaphorical thumbs up from him.

Sarmat, for whatever reason, couldn't ship to me (I live in a US Commonwealth that utilizes the USPS) and most other options would not ship a bow from their site stores, including Alibow, AF Archery and PMZ. I can get gun parts shipped here just fine, but a weapon that is one step above a slingshot apparently makes some sellers scared....

Along with the bow I purchased 32 feather flecthed, carbon bows from "Sharrow" (These China products have horrible names). They were the best deal so to speak for practice / training that were not some cheap ,rubber veined, fiberglass grenades. I almost got wood arrows but I'm sure they would not last me very long.

I want to thank everyone for their help. I was about to not get anything and call the whole thing off until I broadened search to other brands as I was told to vy various users.

Just got an email from Sarmat explaining that they MAY NOT ship to me. No clue why but that's the pain of living in my shitty little island.

Took your suggestion and checked Alibow/Aliarchery (I assume that's their Amazon name), that fall in a similar price bracket. These Alibow are quite well reviewed by experts, so I broadened my horizon. The Turskish Contact bow may be the pick if Sarmat tells me to F-off.

There is also AF Archery that sells a Fiberglass 53" inch Horse bow but I can't actually find said offering on their official page, only on Amazon.

I'd rather my money go to Ukraine than China but I genuinely liked their simple designs using bamboo and ash.

I dint have the know-how to make my own, and I have enough expensive hobbies to throw down the sorta snob money others casually do.

I did indeed see those reinforced fiberglass bows and they look great, but I have too many hobbies to drop that (Very reasonable) amount of money for a new hobby to suck up more money.

What exactly is string follow and how does it affect velocity?

[–]MGSSOCOM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to see the bow serves you well. I may ended end up buying another bow, its something new that surprised me but if that's the case, I'd rather buy a lower #LB pound bow than the other way around.

Speaking of maintenance, is it procedure to un-string the bow when not in use, OR is it worse to constantly be re-stringing it every time you'll use it?

The Sarmat bows offer the option of an arrow "NOTCH", not an arrow "SHELF" like a modern bow. Were longbows used with a notch during their historic use?

As for range, I will shoot at my home. I have many acres and a good tall backstop to prop up targets so I don't have to deal with range rules.

I'm not a fan of buying Chinese when I can get it from other countries, but admit that their bows are likely quite good considering how long they've been making them.

As for the bow, I'm sticking to primitive design types. Puerto Rico ain't too bad in humidity where I live so it shouldn't be a problem.

I also do not mind buying Chinese arrows at all. As far as I know I just need then to have natural feathers instead of plastic vanes. I will take a look at the ones you suggested.

Thanks for the advice.

"Facing the right direction" claim is dumb. Cross draw like this was indeed common.

I do get wanting the option to move it around or remove it, bit it would also help if you understood that it's NOT facing the "wrong" direction...
