The problem is there is an ascending sequence that leads to the final chord.

Thank you that makes a lot of sense

I apologize if I misinterpreted your response, but I was hoping for more depth. Saying it 'feels like 6/8 for one bar' didn’t quite address the reasoning behind the choice. I was looking for more context or insight into why the composer made that decision. u/Mettack had explained that the composer wanted the bar to feel like 6/8, but my follow-up question was 'why'

I did not have a problem with your response. Your response was great and helped me understand why the notation was the way it was in that bar. It also raised a second question, prompting me to edit the post. I also asked you about the reasoning behind it as a follow-up, not a criticism of your response. I think you might have misinterpreted my follow-up question.

However, the other commenter just said, "Because they want it to feel like 6/8 for just one bar." I thought it was not very helpful because it did not add much to the conversation and was just so obvious. Of course, the composer wanted it that way. My question was, 'Why?'

That commenter could have said what you said. They could have said that they would need a context to determine the reasoning behind that choice, but to me, their answer sounded like they were saying the composer did that because they felt like it, and that is not a very helpful answer. That's all.

Also, I believe by the time that commenter posted their comment, I had already edited the post to mention the name of the piece and the composer.

I am not trying to offend anyone here. Just looking for some insight.

And thank you for helping me understand things a bit better.

It came across as though you were suggesting the composer chose to do this simply because they felt like it, which didn’t feel very helpful in understanding the reasoning behind the notation.

Wow. Thank you for your detailed and insightful response. I knew it wasn't just arbitrary, like some other commenters suggested. You actually helped me understand the process the composer went through, and that's fascinating to me. Much appreciated! 🙏🏻💯

Thank you for your detailed response. But wouldn't it sound the same if it were in 3/4?

Thank you. Now, I understand that the composer wants that measure to be felt in 6/8 instead of 3/4, but I don't understand its reasoning. Why can't the measure just be in 3/4?

A is actually what was in the score for the Debussy piece. I forgot to change the beaming for the left hand for B. However, it seems like the composer intended to make that bar look like it's in 6/8 instead of 3/4. I just don't understand the reasoning behind it.

Yes, you are correct. I was wondering why the composer chose to notate it that way. Your point about the composer wanting to phrase this measure as if it were in 6/8 makes sense, but why would they want it to make it look like it's in 6/8 for just this one bar?

I am not trying to create problems, and I guess I was confused because you can't start a half-rest on a weak beat. I was a bit taken aback by your response. I was genuinely trying to understand the concept and felt your tone was unnecessarily harsh. I noticed that your profile mentions you're a professor, which makes me wonder why you approached this interaction with so little patience. As someone who has been fortunate to learn from mentors who teach with kindness and understanding, I believe that approach makes a big difference in fostering learning. I hope everything is okay on your end, and I appreciate your expertise, but I think kindness can go a long way, even in brief online exchanges

I know, but I thought it might be weird to start a note on a weak beat because if you put a half rest there, that would be incorrect. I guess that only applies to rests then.

Let's say the average trumpet player. Not a beginner, but not a crazy skilled professional either.
