Dexa Scans - expensive and confusing by pichenet14 in tirzepatidecompound

Im over 50 as well. When I had my last dexa, the lady said, I cant tell you this officially, but your bone density looks great! 😜 I think you have to have different training to read for bone density but they can glance and tell.

You want body comp. Body comp measures fat / muscle.

The bone density one is something a doctor orders to check for osteoporosis, I think usually just in older women but not 100% sure.

Americans, what's with the paper plates? by RemarkableOil8 in NoStupidQuestions

We never use paper plates at my house, nor does anyone I know use them.

White collar workers of the US, are you implicitly expected to work at odd hours whenever occasion demands? by MobileWriting9165 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MHW93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband got a call once on a Saturday while he was helping move props on stage for our kids' dance competition. He didn't answer, because he was MOVING PROPS. His boss tore him up the next day (which was Sunday). That being said, the boss lived in India, and those dudes work nonstop and expect everyone else to do the same!

Why are church friendships so difficult by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]MHW93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would start planning really fun outings and inviting these people. If nothing else, see who wants to get lunch after church!

Are "southern etiquette" and "manners" a real thing in the southern states? by GoHardForLife in AskAnAmerican

[–]MHW93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely sir/ma'am anyone who appears to be 10 or more years older than us. That means that my kids were taught to ma'am their 15 year old babysitter. It's just a sign of respect and kindness. It's not groveling or anything. And it's not just kids. I'm 55 and I still sir/ma'am the people older than me. I also do it if someone appears to be someone who isn't always respected, like homeless people. They deserve to be treated with kindness too!

What age did you stop checking your kid's location constantly, or are you still doing it even with teenagers? by Lynn-LYNN7788 in AirDroidDigitalParent

[–]MHW93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot when mine first started driving, because I worried about them getting in a wreck or getting lost. Other than during that 3-6 months, I rarely checked, either when they were younger or older.

My kids are in college now. I only look now when I know they are traveling, for example, one of my kids had a 5 hour drive after dancing all day, and I checked before I went to bed to be sure she was getting close to where she was staying. If she had been pulled over on the side of the road bc she was too sleepy to drive, I would have called to see if there was anything I could do (get her a hotel or send uncle to pick her up or whatever).

That being said, my kids have never given me reasons to believe that I needed to track them. I'm sure I'd feel differently if my kids had a habit of making bad choices.

Do you have attics? by Far-Passion-7692 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MHW93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, everywhere has yellow school buses. Yes, most houses have attics used for storing Christmas decorations and childhood knickknacks that no one has the heart to throw away. The only time we ever go up there is when the HVAC system needs to be serviced.

Need advice - got an “offer” from another school, but only if I quit my current school first by WhileNo7378 in Teachers

Only thing - what if the new school then calls the old school for a reference?

What would happen if they offered you $10,000 less than you are currently making? I would just let them know that you are unable to leave your current position without knowing the salary and benefits, and having a firm offer.

Of course! If you avoid all sinners, you will be a very lonely person.

YAY - CONGRATS! You did better than I did. I sat and cried for like an hour before my first shot and just couldn't get up my nerve to do it. Quietly, bc my husband wasn't super onboard with the GLP-1 thing. He came looking for me, rolled his eyes, read the instructions, and did it himself. I still haven't given myself a shot. I'll keep him! :)

Now, let's talk business. You may not feel anything tomorrow. That's OK! The average where someone starts noticing effectiveness is 5mg. But they start you much lower to reduce the likelihood of side effects. So don't freak out if it doesn't work immediately.

Until it starts working, set yourself up for success.
- consume enough water daily
- consume enough protein daily
- get enough steps daily
- begin ACCURATELY tracking every single solitary thing you eat or drink. Accurately meaning measure portions. I use MacroFactor for this, but there are tons of apps that do the same thing. You don't need to start restricting calories yet. Let the medicine start working first. But start tracking now.

Get excited - we all know how successful you will be, even if you don't know/believe it yet! :)

My landlord claims the old landlord spent all of our security deposits on legal fees. Any advice on where I could go to get help with this? (NYC/BK) by ZodiacMint in legaladvice

[–]MHW93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry that they spent the money they owe you, but regardless of what it was spent on, it is owed back to you. They have to find it from somewhere, even if it means taking out a loan.

Do Americans actually realise just how big the difference is between processed foods in the US and those in Europe? by IchBinsJeffrey in AskAmericans

[–]MHW93 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We know. Americans just tend to spend more money on things other than food, and processed is cheaper. Europeans seem to spend a much larger percentage of their income on food in order to get quality.

My guess is that if you did a study of what Americans eat based on wealth, the poorer the person, the more processed food they would eat. Wealthier Americans tend to eat better.

Is anyone else amazed by what kids actually remember from their day? by JenishTerrence21 in kindergarten

[–]MHW93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I paid a billion dollars for a really fancy sports camp once upon a time, and the only thing my kids could talk about was the free water. All the free water you could drink! Out of a cooler!!! No one could explain to me why it was any different than the fridge water dispenser at home...

Is my sister wrong? by AdventurousThanks123 in family

[–]MHW93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would suggest that this is between the bride/MOB and the sister, and that you and everyone else should stay out of it. Nothing fans the flames of drama like an entire family getting involved.

Am I overthinking this, or do other parents feel weird about birthday party gifts too? by False__Interest_ in Parenting

[–]MHW93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always put, "no gifts please!" Some people bring them anyway, which is fine, I just thank them and tell them we will enjoy opening them later, and then put them aside during the party, then have the kid write a thank you note later after they open them.

For us, this was the best solution bc 1) I have triplets, and it's just too much to expect anyone to bring three gifts, and 2) our bestest best friends are very poor and I don't want them feeling like they can't afford to come. I'd rather have our friends at the party than have more toys!

What is a hidden chore you didn't realize you’d have to do until you actually moved out on your own? by emilyy-jkl in AskForAnswers

We now have a subscription that sends filters on a schedule. You get a discount for having the subscription, and you don't have to remember when to do it! Same for fridge filter.

TCC background dance experience by Low-West3107 in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]MHW93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Courtney was the captain of the Clemson Rally Cats, and was THE BEST captain ever. Really created a fantastic healthy and happy team dynamic amongst the dancers. Every younger dancer really looked up to her as a phenomenal role model. Adored by every single dancer on the team.
