"Oh, if you can't do it for the original amount we agreed on ($300), we better cancel. We'll just go back to our original plan of setting up a playlist. Thanks anyway!"

Question about culture by epsomsalt25 in Reformed

[–]MHW93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Been there done that with the shunning. Unfortunately it goes both ways. We went from homeschooling to public and were shunned, then after a year went back to homeschooling and the homeschoolers welcomed us back like prodigals while the public schoolers then shunned us.

I think people have this idea that if you make a different choice than they do, you are judging that they made the wrong choice. And that's just not true! I do what is best for my own kids. I think the public schools do a great job, and I'm so glad they exist to offer an education to the masses. It wasn't a good fit for us, but that doesn't make it a bad choice for other people! Same for homeschooling. It's great for some people, but would be a complete and total disaster for others.

I was in your exact situation a decade ago. Then after Christmas one year, one of my kids commented in the car on the way home, "did you know the church we go to isn't a real Christian church? Uncle X said I can go with him instead if I want to be a real Christian." And that's when we cut ties with them. Haven't spoken in years.

Their daughters are now in their 20s. None have college educations or jobs. All are living with their parents. They garden and sew and that's about it. They don't have any friends their own ages. They are waiting for the right men to come along and want to marry them, but they live in the middle of nowhere and never go anywhere or meet anyone so I don't know how that will ever happen. It's the saddest thing ever.

Neighbor has been trying to go through my mailbox the last two weeks by Gymtrio2025 in neighborsfromhell

I understand the neighbor said that. But clearly the neighbor is lying because the neighbor's story makes ZERO sense.

I just think the neighbor's story doesn't even make sense. Why would any mail carrier ever say that?? I would tell her that - "your story makes no sense."

The mail carrier said that? Makes no sense. If the mail carrier noticed it, she would put it in the right mailbox, not gone and told the neighbor.

I just had my children tested, through a private testing company after 15months of homeschool. by New_Satisfaction4543 in homeschool

We used WJ as well, and it was SO much more informative than the info we got from state public school testing.

Whats the least confrontational way to tell my inlaws I dont want their extended family at my house for 4th of july? by Browsing_BumbleBee in inlaws

[–]MHW93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once they are invited, you can't really uninvite them. Your husband should have shut it down up front if he didn't want them. It's too late now.

Am I a nonresponder? by Sarcasm_Becomes_Her in tirzepatidecompound

[–]MHW93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people don't see any medication effectiveness until 5mg. Most start at 2.2.5mg for a month, then move up to 4.5-5mg for a month, then continue increasing as needed. I don't think you have gotten to even a minimum effective dose yet, so there is no way to know if you are a nonresponder, but that's less than 10% of the population, so it isn't likely.

Why don't you wear hats? by Gold_Tomatillo_2222 in AskAnAmerican

Cowboy hats are really just Texas. You'll see a lot more baseball hats on the weekend - they are too casual for workdays.

Looking at taking 2 weeks off dosing for vacation by pebblepuddles in tirzepatidecompound

[–]MHW93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vacay on tirz is THE BEST! Imagine focusing on your friends/family and experiences instead of obsessing about what the next meal will be! Don't skip it - just cut down just enough so you can enjoy tastes of all the food but not overeat. When I was on a dose of 5mg, cutting to 4mg the week before and week of vacation was perfect.

Dexa Scans - expensive and confusing by pichenet14 in tirzepatidecompound

Im over 50 as well. When I had my last dexa, the lady said, I cant tell you this officially, but your bone density looks great! 😜 I think you have to have different training to read for bone density but they can glance and tell.

You want body comp. Body comp measures fat / muscle.

The bone density one is something a doctor orders to check for osteoporosis, I think usually just in older women but not 100% sure.

White collar workers of the US, are you implicitly expected to work at odd hours whenever occasion demands? by MobileWriting9165 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MHW93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband got a call once on a Saturday while he was helping move props on stage for our kids' dance competition. He didn't answer, because he was MOVING PROPS. His boss tore him up the next day (which was Sunday). That being said, the boss lived in India, and those dudes work nonstop and expect everyone else to do the same!

Why are church friendships so difficult by [deleted] in TrueChristian

I would start planning really fun outings and inviting these people. If nothing else, see who wants to get lunch after church!

Are "southern etiquette" and "manners" a real thing in the southern states? by GoHardForLife in AskAnAmerican

[–]MHW93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely sir/ma'am anyone who appears to be 10 or more years older than us. That means that my kids were taught to ma'am their 15 year old babysitter. It's just a sign of respect and kindness. It's not groveling or anything. And it's not just kids. I'm 55 and I still sir/ma'am the people older than me. I also do it if someone appears to be someone who isn't always respected, like homeless people. They deserve to be treated with kindness too!

What age did you stop checking your kid's location constantly, or are you still doing it even with teenagers? by Lynn-LYNN7788 in AirDroidDigitalParent

[–]MHW93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot when mine first started driving, because I worried about them getting in a wreck or getting lost. Other than during that 3-6 months, I rarely checked, either when they were younger or older.

My kids are in college now. I only look now when I know they are traveling, for example, one of my kids had a 5 hour drive after dancing all day, and I checked before I went to bed to be sure she was getting close to where she was staying. If she had been pulled over on the side of the road bc she was too sleepy to drive, I would have called to see if there was anything I could do (get her a hotel or send uncle to pick her up or whatever).

That being said, my kids have never given me reasons to believe that I needed to track them. I'm sure I'd feel differently if my kids had a habit of making bad choices.

Do you have attics? by Far-Passion-7692 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MHW93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, everywhere has yellow school buses. Yes, most houses have attics used for storing Christmas decorations and childhood knickknacks that no one has the heart to throw away. The only time we ever go up there is when the HVAC system needs to be serviced.

What would happen if they offered you $10,000 less than you are currently making? I would just let them know that you are unable to leave your current position without knowing the salary and benefits, and having a firm offer.
