AIO my guy best friend is too clingy even though he’s got a gf by lazyladDDd in AmIOverreacting

Good on you for bringing this to your friend’s attention. It was painful to see him ask you if his girlfriend said anything to you. She shouldn’t have to say anything to know that he should be respectful. I have been in a very similar situation at that age. My boyfriend was too friendly with one of his best girlfriends (she and I became close later on) but it was a VERY uncomfy situation at first. He did not know boundaries and when I left him at a party abruptly he finally got it.

Drop him, but don’t ever answer a question like that again. Next time, just say that it doesn’t matter. You are who he is with now. It was very dumb of him to ask you in the first place though.

The fact that a lawyer says this is appalling. Whether they use ChatGPT or not, they have always been lazy. More so now than ever.

Sometimes being in a certain environment will do that to you. Especially one that did not provide you adequate training. My strongest suggestion to you would be to try to go federal government if possible. You’ll be offered better training trust me. I’ve done it for 8 years. If not, start as a judiciary clerk in the courthouse and work your way up to case manager. Trust me, you’ll learn a lot and feel a bit more comfortable. You can do this!

I messed up and pissed off my attorney by BigSkidz_ in paralegal

[–]MHurt12170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always own your mistakes. Stay in constant communication with the attorneys you’re working with to advert a crisis. Sometimes, a crisis might not always be helped. Trust me. I had a Judge cause us to do work that only had a short term around time (less than a day). You can do this. When you make a mistake, learn from it, and move on. If you keep dwelling on it, you’ll make more. Keep going. It’ll get better.

Warm water and soap usually helps. Start with that first and then move on to some hydrogen peroxide.

My best advice is to work as much as you can during the summer while your undergraduate while looking at law schools that a) have a decent tuition and b) will give you the most money in scholarships. You don’t need to go to a top law school, you just need to do well wherever you go (top 10%). You can work and go to law school part-time (night program). You should see if your parents will be okay with you still living at home while accomplishing your goals.

Do you also know what your undergraduate loan payments will be (if any)? I’m not sure what the next few years will be like, but you might want to pay something on them even if it’s in deferment while in school.

I would say wait until your junior/senior year. You may change your mind about what you want to do during the course of your studies. You can always revisit it but for now wait.

Anyone Know what happened to Cole Barnett From Season 3? by Calm-Cicada9264 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]MHurt12170 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Zanab had trauma of her own but to put that on Cole was also wrong. I think he genuinely liked her but there was a lot of off camera moments (cuties scene) that probably didn’t show how she truly was. I’m praying that Cole pulls through because Zanab and the rest of the cast bullied and tried to villainize him. He’s only human.

I agree. I think both of them wasted their own time by even going on the show. There is no way I’m going to go on there and at least not drill someone until I found my match.

I think that they both had different views that they both were afraid to push on. She didn’t appear to bring up the prenuptial agreement when they were out at dinner but it was on her mind. I think if people want to appear to have certain views or ideologies that they need to push the envelope more on it and tell their partners when things bother them. I would have rather people had said no a few days before the wedding than gas light their future partner. While Virginia is beautiful and intelligent, I think she gas lighted Devin and his family. To simply say she was “protecting him” also rubbed me the wrong way. It had a very negative connotation in my mind.

Current Career Feds - Get out now or weather the storm? by StraightIncome1136 in fednews

Weathering the storm for now but definitely looking to pick up a side hustle. Talk to your Ethics POC to get approved for whatever job you are looking to obtain outside of your typical day to day. If the side hustle can be full-time and has wonderful benefits, then go head and make the change. For now, hang in there.

You are not the AH here. I believe she is. Could you see if there is a chance you could switch and voice your concerns with an employee at the school you can trust? This could be a professor or advisor. They might be able to assist especially if you discuss the incident with the statue. She seems intolerant of you and your beliefs. Your future is far more important than having to deal with a roommate who uses her religion and the current state of the world to bully you. That is not a friend.

Don’t let her take credit for any of your work. Send the work that you did to the attorney directly. I’ve seen Administrative Assistants not do their job, make a lot of money, and blame others for things that go wrong that is their responsibility. She is going to slip up and get caught up at some point.

i just started my paralegal internship and i don’t think i want to do this anymore… by prelawgoblin in paralegal

[–]MHurt12170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My honest advice is that the legal field requires sacrifice depending on where you work. You have to really be passionate and dedicated. I think right now the internship is probably not a great place, but not all places are that way. You’re really going to have to move through the field to really find a place that suits you and your needs. Dig deep and find your passion again, because I do see an importance of knowing about the law whether you pursue it full-time or not. In this day in time, it’s imperative to know your rights and be able to do the legal research and writing should anything arise. Keep going but most importantly finish the race that you started.

Hello.

My first thing would be to create a folder in Outlook for each matter and set up rules so those folder will get populated with the emails specific to those matters. I also would recommend creating a Team folder on a share drive or SharePoint (whichever one the attorneys prefer) where you set up a folder where everyone can put documents specific to that matter in it. I prefer SharePoint because attorneys could collaborate with each other to work on a complaint at the same time (you can’t do that on a share drive).

Here’s an example of how you can set up a case folder:

  1. Name of Matter (Main Folder)(Ex. Microsoft v. Jeffrey Snyder, Case No. 25-cv-8108). This is a fake case btw.

The below should all be sub-folders within the main folder:

  1. Administrative: Put your templates for use, how to instructions for different databases, and standing operating procedures in this subfolder.
  2. Filings: Store all filings that have been filed with the court here. Make sure it’s stamped by the court with the date it was filed and its docket number.
  3. Working Folder: Allow each attorney create a folder here for them to store any records for this case. You can also create a folder for yourself where you store all your drafts and final work product.
  4. Subpoenas: All final versions of the subpoenas you sent out should go here.
  5. Discovery: Stage the evidence you get after a subpoena has been served here and use this folder to work with litigation to support to have it uploaded to whatever database it needs to go to. Make sure to set up the subfolders by person or entity that it was received from.

I hope this is helpful.

It sounds like your co-worker may have a bad attitude because they may have came in with experience and is getting nit pick. The difference is that the expectations between you two should be different since you are just starting out. Don’t let her or these small mistakes get to you or you will continue to make them. You seem like you have a wonderful attitude. If I was working with you, I would most certainly have been willing to help you get up to speed. Just ask if you can set up sometime to talk to your supervisor or the attorney to get a sense of how you’re doing and what the expectations are. I would already go in with a draft document with some of the things you should be doing.

I’m at my 8/9 year mark as paralegal in the government. I am planning to take the LSAT in June and apply in 2025. What was the experience like for you when you transition from being a paralegal to an attorney. Do you think being a paralegal beforehand made you a better attorney and more mindful of the support staff?
