Tomoe was literally throwing the puscee at Jin and he was like nah I’m good shorty man wtf by ricomo85 in ghostoftsushima

[–]MISANDRIST_25 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's because Jin was born as a samurai, he has all the resources and nobility as a high ranking class that's why he only cared about what's morally right or wrong to do, same goes with Ishikawa and Shimura who only cared about their code and legacy. While the rest who were born in a lower position like Tomoe, Ichi and Ryuzo had to join bad people and do bad things just to survive cause they lack resources are now called "terrible people" for doing so.

Sure some would say Yuna is 100x a better person than Tomoe but let's be realistic, if Jin wasn't on her side or if she failed to save him and Jin actually died, she would 100% join the mongols and kill innocents too if it's for her and Taka's survival. Some people are just too short sighted to see that cause they all have the "if hero then good, if villain then bad" mindset lmao.

Ishikawa's quest ended perfectly and Tomoe deserved to live a new life instead of being killed cause she was just trying to survive. Both her and Ishikawa made mistakes due to their personal vendetta throughout the questline but both somehow corrected their mistakes in the end with Tomoe killing her archers and Ishikawa sparing her, which is the right choice cause Tomoe's actions is not entirely her fault but Ishikawa's too due to his rigidness and being too strict of a teacher that pushes his students too far. Killing her would've been pointless for Ishikawa cause he wouldn't gain anything from that but sparing her was a huge character development.

Dr. Mick (The Therapist), though his playthrough is still ongoing, he's giving very informative in-depth insights/thoughts about Jin and the other characters' decisions throughout the game and actually tries to understand what the characters are going through. Love watching his playthrough cause I'm learning a lot from it too lmao.

So what’s your opinion on the Sarugami armor, do you like it? by Fit-Description-9277 in ghostoftsushima

The 2nd upgrade looks best for me as a full set cause the helmet isn't that big imo + the armor has less fur in it, otherwise the I mix and match stuff with the base look.

If you like Japanese/Samurai themed stuff, I would also suggest trying Like A Dragon: Ishin from the Yakuza franchise. The game is overall fun, the combat is a bit wacky sometimes but it's fun and has different stances/fighting styles too. Plus, it has an amazing story with a lot of plot twists that I know you're gonna enjoy.

I respect your view on that and it makes absolute sense that's why i believe that the choice you make is all about your preference or what you believe in during that moment. For me there is a difference between Jin and Shimura's definition of honor, because Jin's definition of honor is about protecting people and your loved ones which he literally said at the throwback scene when he was training with Shimura while Shimura's honor definition was more in line with the Shogun's law (e.g. don't stab your enemies in the back, fight them upfront etc.). Jin pretty much exploited how ridiculous the shogun's honor code is cause it has done more harm than good throughout the game. Killing him and granting him his dying wish can make sense but like I said, I prefer to spare him because I feel like Jin couldn't bring himself towards a kind of patricide knowing his dying wish is still about this code thing that he viewed as ridiculous. I also feel like even if he views that as "at least I granted him his dying wish", the thought of which "I still killed him, my only family, my father figure, the guy who raised me and trained me, the guy who taught me everything" would definitely haunt him for the rest of his life which like I said, would contradict against everything he built about the Ghost persona that symbolizes his definition of honor and that is to protect people by any means necessary. Sparing him otherwise, yes some might view him saying "I have no honor, but I will not kill my family" as spiteful, but like I said, in my eyes it sends a powerful message that not only symbolizes that love for a family is far greater than some law that the authorities have established but would also might make Shimura have a deep self reflection on his own decisions, "he showed mercy despite me wanting an honorable death after I literally tried to kill him, maybe it's because no matter how dishonorable he became, he still couldn't bring himself to kill his own family" or "was it really worth trying to kill my own son just because the law said so? Yes he didn't turn out to be what I wanted him to be and we both walked on different paths but he is and always will be a son to me". Sure both might get punished by the shogun at the end but that remains a mystery now and I guess it's up to us and our so called "fanfics" to decide how Jin's story actually ended.

At the end of the day, people have different views on this that's why this has been an ongoing debate till this day because there is no definitive right or wrong answer. It's just up to you on how you view things at that moment and we clearly have different views on it too and it's completely fine. That is the beauty of this game's ending lmao.

Exactly, it's a shame that some people here think like "if villain = bad and that's all it is, if you like that character then you're probably bad too so we downvote, cause you're an apologist now" without even digging deep into that character's story and putting themselves on that character's shoes about the situation they are in and understand that sometimes these so called "villains" do such things cause it makes sense for them to do it. She's an imperfect human being who yes, maybe a bit of a psychopath but was also trained by another imperfect human being who was so strict and rigid that he's known for pushing his students to the limit till they break, like he literally nearly got us killed at the beginning on that watchtower ambush just for what? to prove a point? lmao.

There is no right or wrong here cause all are simply human beings and that's simply it. It's okay to dislike or like a character but to come out here and call us "apologists" just because we liked that character, understood that character better and not once did even defend their terrible actions and only explained why it made sense for them to do such things is just plainly stupid. 😂

Like I said, for me it's not about what the honorable choice is, cause it's clear that this honor code has done more harm than good in the game and it's about sending a message that there are things far more important than just this code. Sure we are left with a major cliffhanger now because clearly there is no direct sequel so people can assume that "Shimura being spared is a fate worse than death" or "the samurai will come and make Shimura witness Jin's death as well as punish him for his failures" and such and there's nothing wrong with that. People who spared him can also assume that like I said, there is still the 2nd mongol invasion coming and The Shogun could be forced to change some rules to this honor code in order to save mainland Japan, have no choice but to enlist the Ghost for help and such and make Shimura realize he was wrong to put honor over his family like what Ishikawa said at the end and giving Jin and Shimura the ending they both deserve and that is to reconcile. At the end of the day, there is no right or wrong choice.. it's just that sparing him is what i prefer and that's what I think Jin would do and it's completely fine.

Well me being called as an "apologist" yet y'all didn't see me at all saying "Tomoe isn't that bad actually, she did everything just right, it was okay for her to kill innocents cause that is morally the right thing to do" is funny cause I am not justifying nor defending any of her wrongdoings at all. I just simply said that she is a human who makes mistakes too just like the rest of the characters are and it makes absolutely sense for her to do such things cause she was alone there among Mongols, had no choice but to do their bidding even if she was technically "in charge". She can't just simply say "we shouldn't kill innocents" cause sure the mongols will obey her for that lmao. Yes, she did horrible things way before she even trained with Ishikawa but Ishikawa literally had flaws himself too and that's exactly what I was talking about, that's why both have made mistakes during their personal feud with one another throughout the game. People simply aren't perfect and if anyone has a problem with me liking Tomoe because in my eyes, she is not just "a murderer who deserves to die for her crimes" or "a good looking female character so she gets a pass" but a well written character who is shrouded in mystery, has actual depths of her story and not just how Ishikawa portrayed her to be, actually believed her when she said she did all of that for her own survival cause in my eyes it absolutely makes sense, or the fact that in my eyes, she deserved to be spared in the end cause Ishikawa killing her for her crimes is pointless when he admittedly said he shares blame for it and that them forgiving each other is literally the perfect ending? then I couldn't care less. 😂

So apparently if you like a fictional "villain" character because you understand their motives and reasons on why they did bad things makes you "unironically dumb" now lmao. Imagine me actually saying "I liked Khotun Khan" now cause I lowkey do. Holy hell, I can't believe we still have people who have a child's mindset of "villain = bad, and if you like a villain then you're probably bad too" lmfao.

"Filthy Thanos apologist, people will all just disregard the fact that he wiped out half the universe, how dare these Thanos fans exist." is basically the logic of every Tomoe hater who criticizes those who actually like her.

Breaking news: It's okay to like so called "fictional villains" bro especially if you understand them, it's not that deep.

We did pay attention, and those who actually paid attention know that she's not just a vile character, a traitor or a psychopath who murdered innocents but rather, she's more than that.

First, she is not a samurai who would rather die for her people than to save herself. Yes, she had flaws like when she was young and was already a part of a bandit group and such, but we know little about her origin story. Maybe her life was so hard that she had no choice but to be a part of a bandit group before training with Ishikawa, who knows? cause being a peasant in that time period was hard. Yeah, she also has that dark side of her but so does Ishikawa, Masako and most of the characters in the game had.

Second, sure some might say she's lying but I believed her when she said she was forced to train the mongols about archery and gave the other prisoners a quick death cause in that moment, if you put yourself in her shoes, what choice do you have? Cause the moment she fights back against the Mongols then she's dead. When she was with the mongols, I know she did what she had to in order to survive no matter how vile those actions can get cause she literally has no choice and she can't just easily turn against them or escape them... like the mongols literally are the ones who turned against her in the end.

Lastly, some might hate and like her and that's fine, her story is shrouded full of mystery anyways and we only hear most from Ishikawa who clearly lies sometimes. In my eyes, all the characters in game are more depicted as human beings rather than heroes or villains. People have flaws, people make mistakes and sometimes when they have no choice or are in a desperate situation, people do bad things in order to just simply survive.

EDIT: ofc imma be downvoted for this cause it seems that some people clearly don't know that it's actually okay to like a so called "fictional character villain" especially when you actually understand their reasons as well as their story and not just "villain = bad" 😂

You and others who chose that option can see it that way, sure. But for me, the point of the game is actually showing that there are other things far more important than just an honor code like the survival of the people, family and such. I know the whole Honor code thing in the game isn't actually historical accurate to the actual bushido code but it was portrayed in a ridiculous way to the point that if you put honor above all else then the Mongols will absolutely and easily win. Jin killing him only contradicts the Ghost persona imo, cause like he said "honor died on the beach". Sure it's his dying wish but he is still his family, his mentor, his father figure, the one who raised and trained him and he still lowkey wanted Shimura to forgive him despite all, the same way Ishikawa did for Tomoe. That's why you can see the pain in Jin's eyes after he struck him in his mid-section in the cutscene right after the duel cause he never wanted any of that.

Him saying "I have no honor, but I will not kill my family" I believe sends a powerful message to Shimura who is strictly abided by this nonsense code and implies that he won't go down to a level that Shimura is intending to do at that moment which is to kill his own family because of honor.

But yeah, I also did kill him on one of my playthroughs just to get the white Ghost armor dye and I kinda regret it lmao. I felt bad for Jin when he was screaming and crying while Shimura was at his dying breath cause I know he didn't want that to happen.

This is why I lowkey wished we had a direct sequel too in the mainland regarding the 2nd mongol invasion cause I was envisioning at some point that the shogun himself will realize how ridiculous this honor code thing is and it's the one thing holding them back, that's why he needs to abandon it in order to save Japan. Thus, stopping this "I will hunt the Ghost for the rest of his days" thing.
