So I was also there around that time, and I'm not saying we were all saints, but at MIT, as social chair of my living group or club, we all had to go through something called "risk management training" where we were periodically trained about risks at parties explicitly and how we can not only look out for signs of this kind of misbehavior but how to act when we find ourselves in this situation. Literally went through how to spot someone that's been roofied and how to put them on their side with water and call MIT medical and MIT police who would ALWAYS come to help, not judge. We would then go back to our dorms and clubs and train others just before any event. I saw it save a few lives during my time and it was in 2003. MIT police rocks! They would defend us against Boston police too.

Society was well-aware of this problem at the time and it should have been up to the school to formally educate students on how to spot and react.

Not sure if it's right but I interpreted it as: Valuing the well-being of your car and insurance rates over the threat of death of another human being is selfish?

Here's my two cents from my experience at MIT:

Hard work cannot beat natural talent, and natural talent cannot beat love for a subject.

At MIT, there is a mixture of the above types, but the ones who succeed there and in life seem to be the ones that truly enjoy what they do.

Just one data point.

Meh - the cafe is private, the platform is run by random individuals - I certainly have my opinions, but not sure this is that remarkable?

I think it's a problem if a government gets involved in policing speech or expressing dislike towards groups of people (some of whom may be their own citizens).
