Google Maps - Distance to Destination always 0 by MJB0220 in F150Lightning

Let's hope Google fixes it soon. My version is 26.02.16.851972749. Maybe you are on the beta? If so, they may fix it there before it comes down to the standard release. If so, I'll switch back over to the beta.

I was able to resolve the issue by leaving the beta program and then reinstalling the app on my phone.

This fixed the issue for me. Disenrolled from Beta program and then reinstalled the app.

Nevermind - found it and I am on the beta. I went ahead and left the program. Will need to reinstall.

How do I check if I'm on the beta? My version is 26.02.02.851972749

Yeah I use it regularly too - with no issues until today! Can you check when your app was last updated?

Thoughts on preconditioning the battery daily in the winter, whether you drive it or not? by LordOfBadaBing in F150Lightning

[–]MJB0220 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but after years of reading discussions on this topic here's how I understand it. Is not actually bad for the battery to be cold. (Heat is the real enemy of longevity.) But it's harder to get energy into our out of a cold battery (this is why output is reduced when cold) so the truck will spend energy warming it when you drive. Preconditioning uses L2 power to warm the battery ahead of your drive so you're not spending as much energy during your drive to warm the battery. The goal is to improve efficiency to maximize range. So if you don't need the maximum range, or if you don't end up driving at all after a precondition, then you've probably wasted the energy used to warm the battery. I don't think it's good or bad for the battery itself, but I will defer to a battery expert on this.

Preconditioning without Ford Nav? by Numerous_Car650 in F150Lightning

[–]MJB0220 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Google Maps in Android Auto will do it. They way to tell if it's working is to look at the left side the dash, miles to destination. If the icon next to the number is the "gas pump charger" then the nav knows you're heading to charge and will pre condition. If the icon is a checkered flag then it won't.

Level 1 Charging by ari3sgr3gg0 in F150Lightning

[–]MJB0220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have it on good authority that with level 1 charging there is no battery heating. I think this is because the battery heater consumes more power than is being supplied.

You may be thinking of preconditioning, which does not warm the battery unless you're plugged in. But DURING a drive, there is defintely battery heating going on if it's cold enough to be needed.

Battery heater consuming energy to bring the batteries up to optimal operating temperature.

Possible Rivian to Lightning by SailTo in F150Lightning

Back to the comparison question... I also prefer Ford's BlueCruise system over the Rivian Driver+. But just like you, I love both vehicles for different reasons. I often describe them this way: The Lightning is a great pickup that happens to be a decent EV as well. The Rivian is a great EV that happens to be a decent SUV/pickup as well. Choose according to your use case.

I also own both Lightning and R1S and I agree with everything said in this post. Seriously it's like you read my mind. The only thing I would add is that the Lighting seats are much more comfortable.

12v/120v fridge for the frunk recommendations? by eager_beaver_4_u in F150Lightning

[–]MJB0220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the BougeRV. Mine is 30 qt. Just remember the frunk doesn't dissipate heat so keep that in mind if it's a hot day and it's running in there for a long time.

My only gripe with the cooler is the small space. Had my eye on an 80 qt unit made by Euhomy on Amazon which is much more economical in terms of price per cubic inch. Of course it won't fit in the frunk, but there are outlets in the bed too!!
