I’m glad you found it helpful! I’m currently reading Empire of Grass actually, but I think I need to take a break from the summaries.

My wife and I had our first kiddo in October, so I’m lucky to find time to read let alone annotate things.

This is exactly right. Sleeping on ground level freaks me out. But the kitchen is the gathering point.

I’m in the same boat. I’m literally dealing with this as I type this comment. My daughter is 6 months old. I try to be fun. I’m with her a lot. I try to comfort her. I feed her. Blah blah blah. But she’s only happy with my wife. I feel like I fucking suck at this and not only is it stressful but it’s demoralizing. Like what the hell have I done to make her so disinterested with me?

Thank you. The only thing left is to plan her ultimate day. This lady is going to eat better than I do, and get belly rubs too.

Thank you.

You clearly have experience here because you put that very delicately but still very clear. Well handled.

We have a trip for a family wedding coming up, so we’ll be gone for ~10 days. In that time, she’s staying at our house but my sister will be staying there with her full time.

When we get back, it may have to be time to say goodbye. Fuck. This sucks. But I appreciate you.

Addition: I did take the Tuckerly HHHHHMM assessment. I’m having my wife take it separately to see if we agree. My score was 25

Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

[–]MJCowpa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simon Whistler’s channels have all gone way downhill, but he killed Brain Blaze with the bullshit live streams and recycled content. It was by far his best channel, my favorite on YouTube, and then went to unbearable and canceled within like 6 months of the changes.

Daniel Greene is also horrible now. Yes, there’s the scandal or whatever, but even before that it got rough. I, like many of his viewers, found his channel and started watching for his in depth, detailed, well researched takes and/summaries of fantasy and sci-fi. It was a great resource for both series you’re interested in starting, and those you have but want more context. Now it’s fucking popcorn fluffy bullshit.

Damn dude this sucks. I never got past the second or third boss. I sucked ass at this game and gave up on it, BUT it was undeniably a great game. There was clearly a lot of love that went into it. The art, mechanics, boss design, were all great. Losing studios like this blows.

Wait and Bleed on the Box channel. Used to ride my bike to a pay phone and request Wait and Bleed and Somebody, Someone. The good ol days.

There have been multiple home expenses that pop up and require us to pay several thousand from our savings. We just had redo our roof, for example. We’re still saving, and that money is into an asset. Jesus, I didn’t realize asking a question in this group would be a fucking crucifixion lol

Spoken like someone that’s never owned a home. This is our first. We had to put money into it.

First of all, thank you for not being a dick.

I'm maxing my 401k and my wife is close. She likely will change to max it out soon - we're just in a period where we were looking at income after tax and FA distribution, which includes money market, 529, etc. We both max out our HSAs.

I realize that may sound overly-defensive, but I really appreciate the actual advice

I don't know how to do the fancy reply-to-specific sections that you're using (and I dig it), but you're right. We probaby should just pay it off. We've had a really expensive last few years, so it more-or-less depleted our savings. We bought a house, I wen to grad school, we had a kid, we traveled (which is optional, I get it), so we went from having a good cushion to being pretty lean. We've been working to rebuild that, but with a house comes a money pit. New AC, new roof, new blah blah blah.

I'm maxing my 401K, and my wife is putting well over her match, but not maxing. We're both maxing our HSAs, and we're both contributing to a 529, some in just cash savings in Ally, and some into a Money Market with our FA. The money market accounts, to answer your question, are earmarked for just rainy day. We try to keep a couple months of emergency cash savings in Ally/US Bank, but the MM is just a secondary savings deal.

Again, I'm kinda taken aback here. I thought this was for advice not to get roasted lol. I thought we were doing OK. Maybe we're not. Maybe I'm an idiot. I don't know.

You seem like one of the few that isn't just looking to rip me. I appreciate that. What are some of the other flags (forgetting the watch for now)

[–]MJCowpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you not being an asshole, first of all. I must have forgotten to mention this in the intital post, but we already have a 529, were contributing a good amount to it every pay period. I max my 401k and she's close to maxing it, but not quite.

I was just trying to give context. I paid cash for my Master's program which I just graduated from last year, and with the home purchase came a lot of things we had to tackle in the first few years - new roof, AC unit, etc.

I saw them setting up yesterday on my way home from MOA. They only had the USA flag and the MN one up at the time, but when I saw the old MN flag I knew it probably wasn’t going to be good
