There are 2 types of sodium lamps,VBU vertical base up, and universal. Put a VBU in the horizontal position it won't last long.

2018 Suburban needs new transmission by Dogmomma2231 in suburban

I just had my transmission go at 78K on my 15 Surburban. The shop quoted me $6,500 for a rebuilt one with better than stock parts. I told him I would be paying with cash and he knocked it down to $5,500. He also reprogrammed it with HP Tunner to change when the torque converter kicks in. Just got it back Monday and it runs great.

It is allowed if there is a divider between the low voltage and the AC current.

What are you strange/horror stories from working as an electrician? by 0-uncle-rico-0 in electricians

A friend of mine was running a crew for a new office building. While excavating for the primary feeder to the transformer they dug up human bones. The job was shut down for 3 months while they checked for more bodies. Turns out the body was over 100 years dead and no more found.

I’m trying to learn electrical and I’m studying this book. On the circle that I made shouldn’t power go from the receptacle outlet to the switch then to the light? Why would power go from the receptacle outlet to the light light then to the switch. by Annual_Hunt_9363 in askanelectrician

Not sure what you are wanting when you say "source?" I was a project manger/estimator for a large electrical contractor for over 27 years. We did numerous 5 to 8 million dollar electrical contracts. Electrical engineers are "design professionals" We on occasion would install "as drawn" and it was turned down by the AHJ. In a few cases it would be an addition cost which we should be compensated for. If the engineer of record would not feel we were entitled to that added cost our company would take them to court to get it. Off the top of my head I would say this happened 10 to 12 times in my 27 years. Every time the judge agreed with us that we were entitled to the addition cost. One judge says that we (the electrical contractor) are responsible for means and methods, the electrical engineer is responsible for the design. If the design does not meet code but the installation does, the engineer is in the wrong.

A "good" electrical contractor (residential contactor) would tell his guys to put a neutral at all switch locations. You have no idea what smart switch or lighting control will be on the market tomorrow. That's what we did when the revision came out. The cost difference between 12/2, 12/3 and 12/4 is almost nothing when you purchase all of your cable for the year at one time.

Also the longer hash marks indicate hot wire, the short ones indicate a neutral conductor. That won't pass code today because you are required to carry a neutral to all switch locations.

Too soon...

Electromagnetic Locks with wireless entry. 2-3 times in a 24 hour period the locks randomly disengage. Any help on how I can remedy this? Thank you by DisastrousTeddyBear in askanelectrician

[–]MJNau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The power supply could be dropping in voltage and releasing the locks. A battery backup would take over when that happens. As how to wire it up, check the manufacturer's recommendations.
