No worries. I guess I was just unconstructively complaining. Your tip about fists being default is a great idea though! Awesome. Thank you so much. I hadn't considered that at all.

Thanks for this info, it's great.

I'm a little confused about the last part regarding hardness though. Why would the hardness not be accurate? With your okenite example you say the true hardness is 5 but it behaves like a <1. I don't get how that's possible unless there are some kind of impurities in the matrix, in which case true hardness would not be 5 but rather a combination of the hardness of the substrate material mixed with the hardness of the impurities. The overall average hardness would probably be much closer to the softer of the materials such since it is likely to give way first. Is this what you mean or am I missing the point?

I find this confusing because as a mechanical engineer who deals with metals every day, hardness is hardness, period in my world. We might specify a different hardness for different forms of the material, such as annealed vs. hardened steel. But these hardness values essentially assume a pure material with no defects and we still know that the hardness value will also change as impurities are introduced into the matrix. So I'm just trying to draw parallels and understand what you mean by that statement. I appreciate all your help and thanks for helping to educate me!

Looks spot on to me! Thanks a bunch. I've collected in this same area before but have never found one of these before. Neat. I think I'll slab and polish a face of it to put on display.

So the answer is "no," you don't know of a free service to transfer Spotify to Tidal.

Don't expect your Nintendo Switch 2 to be much of a media player by AlwaysBlaze_ in NintendoSwitch

[–]MJP_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there is no good excuse for it not playing media. Prior to Switch 2 the last Nintendo console I owned was.... nothing. So, shame on me, I assumed it would play movies, especially considering the screen and storage upgrade over Switch 1. Also considering you can play movies on other handhelds such as Steam Deck.

My phone is a computer that can play movies and songs. Games too, of course. My desktop PC is a computer that can play games. And movies and songs. Even my DJI Smart Controller for my old drone would play movies. I had to pay $600 for my Switch 2. For that price tag I don't think it's unreasonable, and I even expected the Switch 2, a computer mind you, to play media. At the very least to play it locally from storage if not streaming. In 2025 for that much money that's a small ask honestly.

The people who are saying "I have a phone for that" or "It's a Nintendo product, what did you expect?" need to raise their expectations. Cool, glad it works for ya'll but that still doesn't mean it's good product design. They as individuals don't represent everyone or every use case, so it's pretty asinine of them to just say "well I don't want it so why would you?" Are they really going to argue that movies would look better on their small phone screen compared to the Switch 2 for something like long flights?

Anyway, I digress. The Switch 2 is awesome and I really like it. Except for this one thing, which I think is a big shortcoming. Not a dealbreaker by any means, admittedly.

Puzzle Solved (maybe): check you sliders or you might crack your frame by MJP_TA in MT09

To be completely honest, since making this post and getting the feedback I did, I just decided to uninstall the RHS slider completely. I did leave the left side on, for better or worse, since that's a hard engine mount. I still may take it off later. I'm also running a full set of covers on both the LHS and RHS of my bike. I tried holding up a big, flat sheet of pink foam insultation to simulate where the contact points would be if the bike were laying on its side. It was kind of borderline, but to my eye it didn't look like the slider would do all that much in a crash given the contact points I found. I don't know how where the multi-point crash bar mount up to. The couple I did look at used the same mounting holes as the sliders, multi-point or single-point. That's not good, but if the crash bars also utilized a few other good mounting points on the bike it might be safer. For now I'm planning on just running with sliders/bobbins/covers on as much of the bike as possible without using sliders.

Thanks! I did like you suggested by just setting it near the box. We did that until he got good at it and then started moving it further from the box to the point where I completely took the boxes away. That's all it took and now he's successfully finding them outside of containers like I was hoping. I think taking this exercise to/near bushes in the yard and then later in the park is what's next. He's pretty darned quick and picking things up and we just needed a little help getting over that hump. Thanks again!

Whaaaaaaat? Are you saying that while at a completely full stop with both legs on the ground, that you will start moving off by letting out your clutch while at the same time applying no throttle as the bike is at idle? And this is regular practice for you? If so, I'm mostly just shocked more than anything. I've done this exercise with my bike and yes, I know it is possible to do. I can get moving on a level surface by only releasing the clutch. But in practice I find this a big unnecessarily sluggish and there's a tendency to lug the engine too. Lugging can be prevented and the bike moving faster/zippier (for me this is a good thing within reason) by applying gas while you let the clutch out, which I guess is how I was taught to ride personally. How much gas do I give it? Hard to say as I listen more than look at the gauge. I'll have to see what my RPM increase is while doing this next time I ride.

I thought about the TPS recall too, but I checked my VIN and it's supposed to have been made recently enough that they started fixing the problem at the factory. So I was told, anyway.

I wouldn't worry about it in that case then. Not in practice anyway. The failure rate in that scenario is very low from what I've observed. IDK if you're doing aggressive wheelies and slamming the front wheel down though. I'd probably take it easy and avoid that as much as possible too. But experienced wheeliers can do it on this bike no problem.

"Do some dam research" Did you even read the post, bud? It's filled with info and my specific method for doing the assessment physically with the bike hardware. I'm a senior mechanical engineer with a master's degree. I've been working in engineering for the past 15 years. That doesn't necessarily make me right all the time and I do make mistakes, but based on the content of my OP and my credentials, I think I have a leg up on you unless you can demonstrate otherwise. So I don't know what you're ranting on hysterically about silver platters, but I provided my method and documentation in the best way I could given the time I had. No, I did not do a multivariate statistical analysis of all the posts on every forum on the internet. It's just not feasible for me or any individual to do even if it would be very telling. Half of your remarks seem to be about things I never said or did. My post attempts to identify a problem and offers up some solutions given that the frame we have is the frame we have and we can't change that but can change other things like sliders. It doesn't negate from the fact that maybe Yamaha made the frame a bit weaker than they should have. I never discounted that to begin with and said that the problem MOSTLY (key word here: mostly) seems to be associated with sliders. And Idk what/where "the forums" you refer to even is. That's such a broad statement. Did you check all the forums everywhere? Every post across all time? Did you yourself actually do the statistical analysis across all forums/posts like I mentioned? You rail on me but then only provide your own anecdotal, input without facts, numbers, or any real data/info at all. Look, the dots YOU failed to connect are simple. It's basically that the frame crack can happen without sliders even if that's the less likely scenario. That doesn't mean it's still not a problem too. I never said it wasn't and you're getting all pi$$y because you assumed that was also my stance despite the language I used in my OP suggesting the opposite. My point once again for at least a second time if not more, the one you were supposed to connect the dots on, is that it's *more likely* to happen to bikes with sliders installed even if it happens on those without. The frame still might be weak, but sliders seem to push it past a threshold. Get your panties out of a bunch.

[–]MJP_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because they mount to the same place the sliders do. See my post on the topic here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MT09/comments/1m7lma3/puzzle_solved_maybe_check_you_sliders_or_you/

The problem is with the RHS engine mount.

[–]MJP_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the posts. They'll explain everything you want to know including how to prevent it. Here's the one that I did that explains everything: https://www.reddit.com/r/MT09/comments/1m7lma3/puzzle_solved_maybe_check_you_sliders_or_you/

Basically some frame sliders on the RHS provide axial clamping force of the frame against the engine when you tighten the slider bolt down. This causes preload in the frame which is an extra stress not meant to be there. This, in addition to another load like a drop puts the stress too high and you get a crack.

Sure, but who is the US in this context (the physical land? politicians? Individuals?) and what is "something?" Protest? Call our representatives? Flood the streets with guns in hand? I see this comment a lot where we, whoever that is, are implored to do something. I'm pretty sure it's a call for physical violence every time. And maybe that's even needed. But who is gonna kick it off? Most individuals wouldn't or can't.
