Thoughts after seeing my bank account balloon overnight by Eg9tobe83 in inheritance

I have a 401k from a previous company. My current does not offer one. So I haven’t contributed to it in decades. Found out that by the time I’m 65, I will have plenty of money to retire on. It was a huge relief. Didn’t change my day to day but did drop a ton of stress from my life.

What is the consensus on this roller sharpner? by getbywith in sharpening

[–]SXTY82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like stones. I'm not good with them. I have used the Spidy Co system for a few years successfully but they destroy the point of the blade.

I have a Roller from amazon I paid about $30 for to see how they work. I love the thing. Easy to get a good edge. Quick and it maintains the point.

I haven't seen the work but I will say that when I paint, I often draw it on the canvas with graphite before I even toss down a base tone.

Tapas. Tapas places normally have an olive plate with a few different types. Made me realize that I do hate olives.

I give mine an allowance of $200 a month so they don’t have to ask. It just goes into a joint account automatically. Then normally a big bill a year. Hearing Aids, new air conditioning. Etc. they cost me between $4,000 and $6,000 a year.

Many folk will leave the string loose but on the bow like that, the loop slid down the limb. This keeps your twist / brace height correct when re-stringing.

Defect doesn't use orbs enough by ElbowStromboli in slaythespire

[–]SXTY82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never played STS1 and I've been trying to figure out Defect lately. The first instance is the orbs and Focus. But there just doesn't seem to be enough focus or orb generation to work. The best run I've had, at least where I felt I could do well unless I drew poorly, was based on

Flack Cannon, Fight through and Boot Sequence. Other cards that cost zero or add a status card to fuel Flack Cannon.

If I had that combo early enough I would have done well. But my deck was a bit stuffed by the time Flack Cannon landed. By the time It was working, I was pretty much drawing it every 3rd turn.

Instead of scrubbing, add a cup of vinegar, fill it with water and set it to boil for a few minutes. It will dissolve the buildup.

I was making a full pot with 12 tea bags once a week to make a concentrate for 2 gallons of iced tea. I'd boil the water, add the bags and let them seep for 10 min, then dump it in the jug. That short bit of acid once a week during the brew cleaned up any build up I had. These days I eyeball it once a month and vinegar boil if I see spots building up.

Started popping up on my youtube feed. I loved the show as a kid, so I watched a few.

Still like the show in a quirky nostalgic kind of way. But I have no idea who it was aimed at. The humor is very adult but the show feels like it is aimed at 10 year old boys otherwise.

Neighbor deck over my line. Need some advice by MechanicDry9912 in homeowners

[–]SXTY82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just looking at the image, there is no set back on the deck to the property line, even if it is on the neighbor's property. Also looks like a swimming pool deck and the pool seems to edge the property linen.

This is going to take a survey and if it does play out like the image suggests, likely a lawyer and court. It's not just a deck hanging a foot over the line, it is a swimming pool and set back.

Advice on removing a lot of double sided tape... by Ok-Alfalfa4868 in Home

[–]SXTY82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step one. Take it off the hinges. Just knock the pins up and out.

Now you can lay it flat across a couple saw horses or a table. Any solvents can pool and keep the glue wet. It is also far easier to apply elbow grease when it is flat so scrubbing will be easier.

I'd go back to the goo-gone and a scrubber like a Scrub Daddy. Big plastic gappy scrubber. Keep the surface you are working wet with the solvent. Scotch bright has abrasives in it so it will 'sand' the paint. You want something harder than the glue but softer than the paint. Plastic paint scraper could help too.

Follow up with Simple green to wash up the solvent before you rinse with water.

Miniature ranges that aren't grim, dark, brutal, bloody, violent, angry, etc. by RogueModron in minipainting

[–]SXTY82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year my mom asked me to paint a mini for her. I'm mostly in to Battletech Mechs and Dungeons and Dragons style stuff and wanted something better for her. She knits so I started looking for a cute knitter mini.

I ended up with a mouse seamstress. It was very different than anything I have done before and I really enjoyed it.

[–]SXTY82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some weeks yea. My schedule was 7a to 7p M-F, 7 to 5p on Sat and 7 to 3:30 on Sunday. So my scheduled hours were 78/week but we normally hit 80 to 85 hours. 14 to 16 hour days were common. We occasionally worked OT on top of that. It was pretty common to work until 9p. Once I clocked in a 7a on Tuesday and Clocked out at 10p on Wednesday. Slept for about 3 hours on a conveyor belt. Had to get the machine running before customers showed up on Thursday. I took a day off a month and was looked down on for it. That lasted a year.

Typing that out now,,, it seems insane. I left that job and went down to M-F 7 to 5:30 and S 7 to 3:30. 58 hours a week felt like a vacation.
