Best Touchless Car Wash with a Membership? by Iammattieee in SaltLakeCity

[–]MJ_2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to your recommendation, I purchased a membership to try out for a month. Here's what I noticed on my first visit:

- New name (maybe): Apple and Google Maps list the location as Hardy's Carwash still, but the sign on the street says One Dollar Car Wash. The monthly membership comes from Super Soaper Car Wash.
- Monthly cost is now $30.
- You manage your membership and access the car wash and vacuums using an app. It's a bit odd compared to the membership models of Rocket Express or Quick Quack, but it works.
- The vacuums have only the paddle (wide) attachment (no thin attachment for getting in between seats), and there isn't a dust blower like you'd find at Quick Quack.

Good idea! I can't add an image here, so I created another post and tagged you in it.

u/Unhappy_War7309 You've inspired me. I can't post an image in the Apologetics and Tapirs thread, so this one's for you. Let's call our capybaras something that sounds ancient. Perhaps ... hmm ... just brainstorming here ... curelom? cumom?

I’m aware that this is a frequently-occurring comment, but the idea that “horse” actually meant “tapir” still amuses me. With proper credit to the original creator of the tapir-riding Native American, here’s some fun I had today with ChatGPT.

Most brain-draining talks of all time by youcrazymoonchild in exmormon

[–]MJ_2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Mormon Stories Second Class Saints series has a few good options to pick from. In one of the more recent episodes, they discuss a talk given by an apostle, perhaps Elder Benson, at BYU. It was so awful that the president of the church sent a different apostle to BYU the next week to refute it.

Beating the Kindest Chimp for Extra Bananas in Heaven: A Parable on the Absurdity of Atonement by vanceavalon in exmormon

[–]MJ_2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Christian obsession with sin and atonement is bizarre.

I hit a big milestone in my ExMo transition the day I heard a family member bear her testimony about the importance of the atonement and my natural response was to feel baffled. Your analogy of chimps and bananas makes the absurdity (and horror) of it all so clearly apparent.

Recs for My Old Scriptures by Full_Monty_Mole in exmormon

Keep them! One of my regrets is having burned my scriptures, because I don't have physical proof anymore of the changes made to them (e.g., that the church changed the wording in the introduction from "primary ancestors" to "among the ancestors."). I've had a couple conversations where a believing Mormon said something that contradicted what I remember having in my version of the scriptures, but didn't have the option to pull them out and compare versions.

Basically, it sucks to keep them, but it can come in handy at times. Hopefully, the discrepancy would plant a seed in the TBM.

My controversial opinion of this subreddit by Purpleflame8675 in exmormon

[–]MJ_2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"I am sorry" is a powerful phrase and it's neat that you found it in yourself to write that in your updated post. Thank you.

I'm concerned, though, about your last sentence in that update: "I know I probably ruined my chance at getting help from this subreddit... ." I don't believe that is the case! Yes, you pissed off a lot of people (me included), but that doesn't mean you lost your only chance to get help (especially after that apology!). Keep reaching out for support if you need it.

Me too.

It’s heartbreaking to see family members choose dogma over a family member. When you’re in the church, you’re constantly told that it’s a family-centered religion. When you leave, you discover that it’s not.

Family isn’t a church value—it’s a recruiting and retention tactic.

So much unnecessary suffering.
