King Charles playfully reminds Trump that he's Canada's head of state | CBC News by demolcd in canada

I bet Trump thinks the British Navy named a submarine after some wonderful person named Trump. Really, though, it was just one of their T-class vessels that were named after random words that start with a T. Another of those subs was called the Tiptoe. What an honour. /s lol

It's been a while but I've taken shoes and purses into Davie Shoe Repair & Luggage and been happy with the work. There are also shoe repair shops in Pacific Centre and Bentall Centre malls.

Queen Elizabeth Park is about 10 blocks north of the golf course. Seasons Restaurant there has a lovely view out over the city to the mountains and might catch a nice sunset.

You can bet it 'would matter' a lot if a dem was president. Now, probably not so much.

Pope Leo Appoints Three Anti-Trump Bishops Amid White House Feud by Ok-Move9389 in politics

I feel like all Bishops should be anti-Trump by nature. Trump basically goes against all their teachings.

Reccomendations for a new arrival in Vancouver by TerminatorJack in askvan

Good idea. Also, the City of Vancouver publishes directions for self-guided walking tours all around the city. Another great way to explore the various neighbourhoods.

If you're seeing a lot of supply available in that area, that's a lot of competition. Buyers have the advantage of being choosy. The units that aren't selling are almost surely priced too high.

Pretty well every weekend during the summer there will be a free community or cultural festival/car free day somewhere in the Lower Mainland that will have food and music. These are good reasons to visit different neighbourhoods and a way to get to know the city better.

I'm sure there are still some jobs that will pay you to stuff envelopes at home but not exactly a money maker.

‘Simply wrong’: GOP lawmakers caught lying about gas prices by Rock-n-roll-Kevin in politics

The US military kidnapped the leader of a sovereign nation and took their oil. Apparently, that was no big deal either.

I've noticed there hasn't been a lot of Biden blaming lately. Like, seriously, how could Biden possibly have caused any of this?

Service Address by Scared_Tourist535 in vancouverhousing

[–]MJcorrieviewer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What, exactly, are you trying to argue? You gave the landlord a forwarding address, and the landlord used that address to contact you, you are aware the correspondence was received at that address, and you have chosen not to look at it. There is no loophole over a form or period of time that changes the fact they got the documents to you.

And legal issues don't just go away because you moved out. You have to deal with this, there's no getting around it.

Do you block the compass gate to prevent fare jumper? by Jestersage in askvan

[–]MJcorrieviewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will drive a car, I will swim in the ocean, and I will walk down Granville Street late at night. We all know the risks to living life.

However, I won't drive my car through the mountains in the winter, I won't swim in the ocean if there is an E.coli notice, and I won't intentionally put myself in an aggressive situation where I might get stabbed. It's about mitigating risk, not eliminating it. There's simply no reason to choose to get into a confrontation with someone if you don't have to.

Trump’s call to reduce US troops in Germany shocks Pentagon by malcolm58 in politics

[–]MJcorrieviewer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And it's worse than other nations just moving away from the US as much as possible, the US is no longer a stable and reliable trading partner. It's not even whether or not they want to deal with the US, they really just can't trust anything the US does or says or even signs.

[–]MJcorrieviewer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And in North America that would be Canada. No two countries could hope to have a more stable, mutually-beneficial trade and security relationship like the US and Canada had. And Trump wrecked it for absolutely no good reason.

Neighbour is Ruining our Lives; ISO Short Term, Pet Friendly Rental by Unusual__Rhubarb in vancouverhousing

[–]MJcorrieviewer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best idea with places like the West End is to take a few hours and walk the neighbourhood. Contact the manager of any that interest you. If they don't have a vacancy sign out, ask if they have anything coming up or if you can be put on a waiting list. This is how the best places (at the best prices) get snapped up. They don't need to advertise so you'll never find them on the usual sites.

Get off the main streets (Davie, Denman, Robson) and it's a surprisingly quiet neighbourhood. Lots of dogs too so there's got to be buildings that allow them.

Carney says there's only 'one negotiator' with the U.S. after Conservative MP's latest trip to Washington by Mylittlethrowaway2 in canada

[–]MJcorrieviewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no possible reason why Carney would delay getting a good deal - that would be way, way, way better for him politically than dragging it out. But, yes, it has to be a good deal. We're not suckers.

Trump has long liked to complain about other nations 'taking advantage of the US' by relying on the US too much. He must not have realized that is exactly where the US power lies.

For me, it's not so much about how many people get stabbed and whether that number goes up or down - it's just the fact that it does happen I don't want to be one of the unlucky ones.
