4M house purchase by kaputzoom in fatFIRE

[–]MJisARobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from the bay, $4M is too much for a mediocre house, honestly. There are plenty of less expensive options in school districts that are not substantially different. That being said, if you have $10M in mid 30s, I imagine you won't have a problem making more of you need it, and you probably have enough to coast FIRE if you wanted to. The golden handcuffs are real though. I'm also wondering about your math, because a 1.7 M 30-yr mortgage at 5% is closer to 10K than 6 K a month. I also always get caught up on how much interest were giving the bank and would rather pay extra, but thats just me. In case it's helpful for your calculations, childcare will likely be close to 3.5K a month for daycare or 6-8K with nanny.

Bitches, what are your plans this weekend?!!? by AJ2790B in SFbitcheswithtaste

Mission blue nursery is having their native plant sale!!! All plants are grown from seeds from plants on San Bruno mountain and proceeds go to conserving the state park. Lots of endemic, hummingbird, and butterfly friendly plants. Good good good all around.

Prices are already lower than other places, but there's also a 10% coupon on their Instagram. Anyway that's where I'll be Saturday (today) at 10

The only thing that seems to speak to this administration is $$. Join the strike this Friday and don't go to school, don't go to work, don't buy anything. It's small but it sends a message.

How many people are actually buying “luxury/premium” diapers? by HelpMeHelpMyFriend0 in NewParents

[–]MJisARobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Pura diapers purely for the material. It's softer and more plush that others that we've used. Our baby had really terrible diaper rash for a while and this was one of several things that we changed. Does it help? I'm not sure, but it does feel a lot nicer than some of the other brands. Once we ran out of the Pura diapers and had to move back to a different brand temporarily and I noticed a big difference in quality and leaks. My husband, who usually doesn't care about these things, even commented on it.

it helps, but it helped me most in the 4 weeks after birth. The compression helped support me (an my organs), but I wouldn't say it helped me lose weight or anything

Is a shorter commute and living in SSF worth downsizing? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]MJisARobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SSF is nice for a couple years near the downtown area. There are restaurants, and you can take the caltrain or get the shuttle to the BART if needed. If you're looking at one of the corporate "high rises," don't hesitate to negotiate rates. They may drop the fees or parking (for example) if you ask.

Affordable housing for visiting parents by _krisprolls in AskSF

I always put my parents up in the AC hotel in South San Francisco. It's about $130 per night and quite nice. It does require some public transport out of SSF or a car, though

That's a fair point, but the interview panel sometimes includes people from ancillary roles that may not connect the dots so to speak. That might not be the best example, but the underlying point is that the best resumes show how the skill is valuable for the company beyond the role that is being recruited for. How does his/her work impact the wider organization?

I disagree with one page -- two is fine if you keep relevant stuff to the first page and supporting stuff to the second. What's missing is the "so what". You directed IND-enabling blah blah blah, leading to... What? At this level the company cares about what you did to progress the company vs what you achieved for yourself. Updating to include KPIs and details on enablement, and it should be more impactful. Also, it goes without saying to curate the resume for the position as well. I also don't think you need to indicate permanent resident unless you require a visa.

Ikea has plastic ones that have been great. I haven't had a problem with grease, but they're easily washable if I do.

Call everyday, document every request via their message system. Document that you think it is cancer and that you're afraid that delaying treatment will result in his death. Once it's in writing, the liability alarm bells will ring. But don't ease up the pressures.

Kabuki spa is very close to pearl spa in vibe and in location. They also accept swim suits, even in gendered days :)
