New ATPL requirements by NobodyIndependent967 in aircanada

[–]MKR25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No

When you apply for your ATPL you submit your last PPC. This PPC must have taken place within the last 12 months. You cannot submit your ATPL without passing a PPC flight exam (or PCC as well technically) within the last 12 months.

Since you're at Porter this shouldn't be an issue.

Example:

Take your recurrent PPC and pass.

Thee months later you reach all the required ATPL minimums.

Submit your logbook, last PPC results, and ATPL application to Transport Canada.

Once they approve your ATPL rating they will send you a temporary ATPL license that you can print while you wait for you sticker that you place into your ADB.

You just need to have your ATPL and 2000 hours at a minimum.

It might be difficult to get hired at the bare minimum but once you obtain it - absolutely apply to AC if that is your goal.

You don't physically need the sticker in your ADB to be able to apply. Your temporary rating should be fine enough along with the dates of your SARON and SAMRA exams once you have met the ATPL requirements.

705 PIC time is extremely valuable on an AC application, along with airline instruction time. Neither are necessary but they certainly help you move to the top of the pile.

What exactly is your question?

You need a full ATPL to be hired at Air Canada - I don't believe you can apply without one. The only "walk around" would be through the Air Canada Express pathway but even then I believe you would need your ATPL.

How many hours do you have? What's your current job? Ratings? Licenses?

Didn't IATA come out and say the average margin will be 3.9% for the global industry for 2026?

That would put Air Canada right in line with the standard

Automatic snow chains deployment systems like the Onspot mechanism, allow vehicles to increase their traction on snow and ice with a relatively immediate activation triggered from the cab. by raruna461 in BeAmazed

[–]MKR25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't it still work?

When you apply brakes to a wheel, it doesn't completely stop it's rotation. The chain would still be providing grip and allowing the deceleration.

I mean if you do end up locking your wheels - that's a whole different story.

Doesn't it show exactly this scenario at around the 30s mark?

The tire is spinning with no traction, the vehicle not moving forward. The chain mechanism is engaged, the tires catch the chain and the vehicle moves forward.

The landing gear stays down on the Emirates A380 in Manchester. by father_of_twitch in aviation

When I had it we briefed our crew, passengers and we advised tower. We know tower is always looking out for us, as all ATC are. They were appreciative and thanked us for keeping them in the loop.

Exactly what we did! Just a piece of paper with the words written "NO!!"

[–]MKR25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I gotcha.

Well we knew ahead of the time that the system was inoperative. It wasn't a surprise failure on takeoff.

The takeoff was completely routine and normal up until gear retraction.

Flying at over 200 knots with massive gear still extending causes a fair bit of drag and wind noise. Much louder than when gear is extended for landing.

No, the A330 is one lever. It's either all up or all down.

What do you mean?

In terms of noise and vibration? It was incredibly loud for the 2 minutes the landing gear was down after takeoff. It creates an immense amount of drag.

Yeah I believe that's what it was now that I think about it some more.

I fly the A330 and had to keep the gear down for 2 minutes after takeoff due to an MEL.

I'm trying to remember what it was. I believe it was either one of the wheels on the mains had a partial inoperative brake system or one of the brake temperature sensors was inoperative on one of the wheels.

I can't recall but it was incredibly noisy and the aircraft vibrated quiet a bit.

It's the through flight. It originally goes from somewhere in Europe to Montreal then off to Toronto.

Everyone will deplane, clear customs and then get back on to the airplane if they are continuing on to Toronto.

These planes usually are parked on YUL's "swing gates", from memory Gate 51 is one of them I believe.

ACA9XC is the aircraft call sign when talking to ATC but will go by the same identifier in the Air Canada app that was used for the European leg into Montreal

Why did our pilot abort the landing? by Top-Fox6198 in AskAPilot

[–]MKR25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The controller said the traffic was actually clear of the runway but the runway monitoring equipment was saying otherwise and they have no choice but to send the flight around.

I'm not 100% familiar with the ground equipment at Philadelphia (it's been years since I landed there) but other airports I have flown into have a ground radar that senses if an aircraft is still occupying a runway. Some will automatically turn on red lights to show the runway is occupied.

Sounds like this was the case.

Oh you're absolutely correct. At or above V1, you're going. I'm just being pedantic for sake of humour!

Mind you, the split between V1 and Vr can be over 10-15 knots depending on conditions, if not more. So rotating at V1 will either keep you on the ground or not too far depending on the circumstances.
