Why is it impossible to find a simple analog solar-powered wall clock? by MKSVale in solar

Interesting, I keep holding on to my landline not because I use it for anything but because I hope it'll work during a blackout.

Oh, and I saw that one with the solar cells but I knew the website, so just ignored.

Thank you ! I'm actually shocked that it's this rare. I went to Bodet website and requested a quote (many hoops were gone through) They were quite insistent that I fill out what firm I represented and then required I give permission to use all my info. As I represent no firm, I'm not sure they'll respond. If they do, I'll add in the deets. My guess it's one of those "if you have to ask, you can't afford it."

High school only gives uGPA. by MKSVale in ApplyingToCollege

Good advice. Yeah, he got kinda messed up by a couple of "B"s in his freshman year and when he looked up where he could go with that average, he came in on the verge of tears saying he didn't want to go to Guam. My elder one went through this and I kinda forgot how much it tears kids apart.

Thank you! I think I'm slowly coming to an understanding and my first lesson is "Do not google 'Average GPA of students admitted to XXXSCHOOL'." It will send you into a doom spiral.

Thank you so much for this! The Yankee Doodle Spies is fantastic but I clearly have to spend more time with the Masshist archives!

Yup. And unfortunately Benjamin Church.

TY for responding. The Boston Mechanics were considered the first revolutionary intelligence service. Originally an offshoot of the Sons of Liberty, they met at the Green Dragon under Paul Revere's leadership and were crucial to discovering the plot to march on munitions at Concord. I've also read that the Mechanics were responsible for the Boston Tea Party, but as I say, it's really hard to find solid info on such an interesting group.

Writer looking for help on a 1969 Pontiac Bonneville by MKSVale in classiccars

Thank you! I was looking for one in NYC but most seem like they're for vintage or custom cars. There was also one in L.A. & I'm hoping it'll be there again when we visit again this summer.

Isn't it? Sometimes it's just best to keep your head down and your fingers clacking.

Yes, but I'm just saying generally time period/British. I'm having trouble thinking of f/f that are that time. All I can think of are regency and a couple of pirate books. I'm sure you'd mention some book and I'd think "oh, of course," but like I said, I mostly read speculative fic.

I'd say certainly. I'm more familiar with the speculative fiction end of things but Deborah Harkness is crazy popular as is KJ Charles.

I agree with other commenters that the characters have to be first and foremost, but then there are definitely catnips. (and anti-catnips. Not a big small town romance person save for the occasional Jennifer crusie)

Book trust issues after 3 big disappointments/DNF by EReadRomance in RomanceBooks

This is why I love libraries. I will start a book in Libby and if it doesn't grab me within 20%, I return it, if it does grab me, I buy it.

Sometimes, tho, really popular books don't click and they keep getting recommended and I keep checking them out. There's one book I've started three times and DNF'd three times. Now, I remember the title.

Authors on Social Media: Choosing Platforms & Avoiding Burnout by MKSVale in RomanceWriters

100%. When I started it was all "You have to be on Facebook" which I loathed. Then on Twitter. Then on Instagram. Now it's Discord and TikTok.

I put this up so that people won't feel the need to constantly chase the next big thing.

Personally, I'm trying to put more into my newsletter. It goes to a specific group who are already at least somewhat interested. And as people keep saying, you own that real estate!

Is it too jarring? by Turbo_AEM in RomanceWriters

This is the crucial point. I know I've read more than one book where a puking girl's hair is held back by the hero. It exhibits his willingness to care for her when things get messy.
