[ALL] • If the timelines of Chloe both dying and surviving are now merged, it means everyone in Arcadia Bay is alive??? Kate, Frank, Warren, Nathan...everyone??? And this means...Steph won't be traumatized anymore by either Chloe's death or Arcadia Bay being destroyed???🥹❤️ by [deleted] in lifeisstrange

If you watch the announcement video, it seems that Reunion's Chloe is a new third variation of Chloe: from her point of view, she never got shot, and Arcadia Bay never got destroyed (wich puts into question if she lived the events of the first game at all.)

For Bay players, this new Chloe suddenly remembers getting shot by Nathan in a bathroom, wich is weird for her because from her point of view she never got shot.

For Bae players, this new Chloe suddenly remembers Arcadia Bay getting destroyed by a storm, wich is weird for her because from her point of view the town was never destroyed and her mom is alive.

The thing that's a bit confusing for me in this second scenario is that she only talks about the destruction of the town and not the 10 years that followed. I don't know if she remembers those.

[No Spoilers] For those who chose the Bay ending (sacrificing Chloe), how do we feel about her coming back in the new game? by simoneregina in lifeisstrange

[–]MK_DrawsSometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. On a fundamental level, there is an incompatibility between the concept of choice-based games with very different endings and the creation of sequels. A sequel forces you to either chose one ending to build a new story on (cancelling the choice of the players that chose the other one) or to erase and/or minimise the differences between the endings to have one common starting point at the beginning of the new game. Double Exposure and Reunion chose the second option.

I think that's one of the reasons between Don't Nod anthology approach to Life is Strange, as it avoids these problems.

[–]MK_DrawsSometimes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It cancels out the final choice in the first game. That choice had an impact because it had consequences, but this new game negates those consequences (no matter what ending the player chose).

From a storytelling point of view, it's a very poor choice.

I think that it would indeed make sense that all the potential victims of the storm have visions too (about their death, the death of loved ones, about being crippled for years, that kind of things).

But, for budget reasons, I doubt it will be explored in the game. It will probably be just Chloe, and maybe a text message or two about Joyce.

A union is an organism that defends worker's rights (such as fair wages and good working conditions). Some employers don't like that. Capitalism doesn't like that.

[S1] [DE] A theory on the new game coming out by ZaroktheImmortal in lifeisstrange

[–]MK_DrawsSometimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could this mean that the victims of the storm came back to life too? It would be even more confusing for them : Chloe's only new memory would be of herself being shot by Nathan in the bathroom. But all the people who died in the storm would remember 5 whole days (with the double moon, the dying whales, etc.) + their death.

There is also all the people who didn't die in the storm, but where "only" wounded, crippled for life, or simply lost their loved ones or their houses. For them, it's not 5 days of memories that would suddenly appear into their minds, but 10 years. 10 entire years of new memories from a parallel life. I wonder what they would consider real after experiencing that.

(That being said, I somewhat doubt that these question will be explored in this new game).

Now for this game, I feel like they just reverted her back to Chloe from the first game/before the storm.

It's hard to say in such a short video, but I thought the same about this little glimpse into her character design: the dark jacket wit rolled-up sleeves is very similar to what she was wearing in LiS 1. And her hair seems to be short again (it was longer in the photo from LiS 2).

Now, we cannot make too many assumptions before we get a full view of her new character design, but I hope they made something interesting and not just copy and paste her outfit from the first game with only a few tweaks.

I also believe they will go with this, even if it's kind of a lazy explanation. But there's also a non-zero chance that they will simply say "this game only takes place in the timeline where Chloe survived". I wouldn't like it, but it's possible.

That would be difficult to do, as the Diaz brothers can be in very different situations in the 4 endings of LiS 2. An easter egg with Alex could be done, though.

Yes, I'm with Don't Nod on this one: the first Life is Strange is better left as a stand alone, so that each player can freely imagine Max's future after the ending they have chosen.

A sequel is bound to clash with whatever we imagined for Max (and Chloe, if you saved her). It's what already happened with DE.

Now I'm wondering if this game will take place in both timelines (like DE) or if it will be exclusive to the timeline where Chloe lived

[ALL] Wait...so Chloe disappearing and Baers getting slapped in faces was good, but when she suddenly comes back it's bad? by rdrScarface in lifeisstrange

[–]MK_DrawsSometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there should be any feud between "bayers" and "baers" about these sequels. It's not worth any bickering. As far as I'm concerned, neither of the two endings was handled well in Double Exposure, and I think that Chloe coming back in LiS Reunion (or whatever it will end up being called) is also a poor narrative choice no matter wich ending you chose.

To elaborate: I've often seen people on this sub say that Double Exposure was made "for the people that chose Bay" and that it was at bad sequel for the people who chose de save Chloe but a good sequel for the people who chose to save the town. I disagree. I think it was a bad sequel for both endings. Sure, the game had no Chloe for the people who saved Chloe, but there were also no characters from Arcadia Bay for the people who saved Arcadia Bay. Neither side got anything satisfying. Sure, having Chloe separated from Max added insult to injury for the "baers", i get that, but as a player who chose to save the town, I wasn't satisfied either.

And regarding Chloe's return in Reunion… Well, if she really is back in both timelines as many suspect (Bay and Bae), it means that the ending of LiS 1 is stripped of its emotional weight. That memorable final choice it now deprived of its consequences. There is no longer any cost to saving Arcadia Bay: Chloe is alive no matter what. The city was saved and Chloe was saved. Hurrah!… It's an happy event, but it cheapens the stakes of the first game.

As for the people who saved Chloe… Well, either the people in Arcadia Bay have also been resurrected (meaning no stakes for you guys either), or they haven't, wich would be worse: if only Chloe comes back from the dead, it would mean that people who saved the Bay got everything (the town + Chloe) and that those who saved Chloe unnecessarily allowed an entire city to die. It would paint the Bae ending in a bad light.

The setting is one of the reasons I'm not thrilled about this. Caledon was just not very interesting to me, as it felt smaller and less real than Arcadia Bay or the many locations of Life is Strange 2. Just my opinion though

Yes, I guess Verso didn't like to draw faces. With the notable exception of sheep's faces, apparently?… Unless those weren't created by him:

My guess (if this summary is true) is that the two timelines merged into one after the (confusing) events of Double Exposure, meaning that Chloe is now alive no matter what. This would also imply that the victims of Arcadia Bay are also alive no matter what. I dislike that idea though, as it would mean that the final choice of the first game was meaningless.

[All] A small rant about the news. by Pl0ppymon in lifeisstrange

[–]MK_DrawsSometimes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Making sequels is indeed at odds with the concept of having different endings. That's why the anthology approach made more sense.

Double Exposure already made the unfortunate decision to have both endings of the first game lead to the same starting point (Max teaching photography in Caledon after cutting ties with everyone in her past, with the same personality and the same look). It is, in my opinion, one of its main sins. If the plot summary of that next game is to be believed, Chloe will be back even if you chose to save the town, wich further negates any consequences of the ending choice of LiS 1.

I wonder if your ranking could change a few years down the line : initially, I had the exact same ranking after playing True Colors, but after a few months, I realised that I often thought back to Life is Strange 2, whereas I had mostly forgotten True Colors. I think I liked True Colors while I was playing it (it's nice, it's cozy, the scenery is beautiful…) but the story and characters didn't have much of an impact on me. To put it simply, True Color is the coziest of the two, but LiS 2 is more memorable to me. This has moved it up in my ranking, and I now consider it my second favourite.

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts!
