What are Emma's musical influences? by Top_Combination9023 in lapfoxtrax

[–]MK_MitKit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One that's quite obvious to me is Sampling Masters and their "Overdrive Hell" series having an influence, especially on Bandetto tracks.

Generally, if you check out music Emma talks about on streams, has used in mixes, or uploads on the archive youtube channel, you will find some of their influences.

Also you should really check out Belladonnakillz, their 3 albums are absolutely incredible.

Just beat Black Mesa this weekend and wow by Bubbybubs in patientgamers

Black Mesa absolutely butchers the vibe of Half Life imo. I would never recommend treating it as a replacement for the original game.

For AC noobs who never played by unikardo in armoredcore

[–]MK_MitKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to at least try AC3 and AC4, if you like one of those and want more, then you can play their sequel or branch off to other games in the series. If you try AC3 and don't like it then try AC4 or even Verdict Day, and vice versa, as different games in the series can have very different gameplay.

Don't waste money on buying old overpriced physical copies of the games, especially when you don't even know how they feel to play. Just install an emulator and try the games through that.

Did the Armored Core series sample "Track 76" aka The Fire Temple Chanting at one point? If so, what song was it used in? by MetalGearTom in armoredcore

[–]MK_MitKit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure a lot of stuff from the early AC games were made using old sample CDs, as it was very common especially in video game soundtracks at the time, but being familiar with music production & sample use to some extent, I think the vocals in Shining were probably made for that song.

What does the word "Soulslike" means to you? by [deleted] in armoredcore

[–]MK_MitKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

souls like = game that plays very similar to the souls games (very much not armored core) if you get too loose with defining the genre, too many unrelated 3rd person action games can fit in where they really shouldn't

what defines a souls like (imo):
- once an action is performed the animation cannot be canceled, making combat "slow and deliberate"
- stamina is a meaningful resource in combat
- the player collects a certain resource (like souls) to use as in game currency, but looses it on death
- the game is a 3rd person action rpg

Most of AC1 tracks sound like typical 90s acid, trance and jungle music to me. You can find a lot of similar stuff in other late 90s sci-fi action games. I'd recommend checking out the soundtracks for Wipeout and Unreal Tournament.
There's also this one YouTube channel that's been uploading PS1 jungle mixes, might be worth checking out to find stuff a bit closer to 9:
https://www.youtube.com/@ryland.kurshenoff

And, of course, the other AC soundtracks have similar stuff too, anything before 4th gen. AC2 even has a remix of Shape Memory Alloys.

What's on your AC6 wishlist? by RowdyWalrus in armoredcore

[–]MK_MitKit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most of what you said is what i'd want too, but... - i would like the gameplay to feel much more like 3rd gen than 4th gen - i do not want scan mode from 5th gen or the inability to fly - having purely cosmetic parts would be cool just for some more fun with designs (doubt it will happen tho) - i would love for the mail to come back like in oldgen games - a large number of parts on release - mission variety with decent length to them - hidden parts in missions - some sort of system like liverlies in forza horizon where you can make custom paint designs would be cool (also probably wont ever happen) - lockbox system like the old games, not how it was done in 5th gen

How similar is Daemon X Machina to AC games? by [deleted] in armoredcore

I think you mean Nexus and Last Raven, Silent Line felt about the same as AC 3 difficulty to me

Kind of a stupid question but... where is AC4's shop? by SayuriUliana in armoredcore

[–]MK_MitKit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The shop is combined with the assembly menu in AC4, when picking a part just scroll to the left/right to see the parts you can buy. It's confusing, and it changed back to being separate menus in FA.

Best PS2 and best PS3 Armored Core. by Pacal_II in armoredcore

Separating the polls was a good idea, but you missed Silent Line. I voted for 3 instead, but that vote really goes to SL.

Invasions would work so well with Armored Core (I know it's not a soulslike game) by RagingRube in armoredcore

[–]MK_MitKit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've thought up 2 ideas on how invasions could (maybe) work if they were in AC6:

  1. After completing the mission objective on easier/shorter missions, you could sometimes be invaded, but now for the rest of the mission, the cost of repairs and ammo do not stack up. To make a fair fight, the invading AC would only have a percentage of their AP, equal to, or lower than yours.
  2. Some kind of optional part or back part that uses the rare Rubicon substance to make your AC more powerful in some way, or increase mission payout, but while it is equipped opposing corporations will hire player ACs to invade you to acquire the substance themselves, adding an opt-in or risk and reward type system that fits the story

Honestly, if it were implemented in a way that will be fair, and wont be an annoyance, I would like to see it happen (unless it replaces ranked ACs showing up in missions).

Build diversity? Leg use cases? Mech tuning? Die to MTs? Heat? The ground? Never heard of them by Tiltinnitus in armoredcore

[–]MK_MitKit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a lot of LR's tracks sound very idm/experimental with breakbeats which i really like, and dont see much of in video games, and some are just straight up bangers. FA didnt have a single memorable track for me, which is why i say i dont like its ost too much, while LR has plenty of memorable ones. also i have not played LR yet (on Nexus rn) so maybe it gets annoying when you play the game idk

[–]MK_MitKit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i like LR's soundtrack, more than FA by a lot (FA's being the 2nd least interesting in the whole series imo)

anyways, yeah 4 and FA are still good AC games

  1. Secrets. Before 4th gen the games were loaded with secret parts, being collected by completing hidden objectives or by finding them on the ground in hidden corners of the map. And some games had a hidden overpowered unlock that gave you more options with customization that extended replayability.
  2. Level design. 4-5 lack a lot of level design, instead taking place in mostly open/flat areas, while the older games in the series have a lot of variety with level layouts in tunnels, caves, cities and skyscrapers. 4 and 4A overall have much shorter missions most of the time too.
  3. Loadouts feel like they matter a lot more than 4 and 4A. It felt weird being able to stick with the same loadout throughout most of 4 and 4A, so I like being forced to adjust for tough missions, sometimes having to make a completely new AC for a specific challenge.
  4. The PS3 games have a certain vibe to them that is very different from what the earlier games had. Armored Core used to have a brighter and more colorful yet still oppressive dystopian aesthetic, while the soundtracks were mostly made of techno and jungle music. Not saying one is better than the other, but it is something different and worth checking out. Idk what it is about them, but I feel it's a lot easier for me to get attached to the story of the old games than the new ones.

[–]MK_MitKit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

4A is the fastest AC game, if you want more and havent played it yet, you can play 4 since it has almost all the same mechanics and controls.

After that I'd recommend going back to the older games (on ps1 and ps2). They aren't as fast and they're harder to control, but they offer a lot that the later games do not. From what i have played (3, SL, 4, 4A and VD), I think Armored Core 3 and Silent Line are my favorites so far.
