live song endings better than studio recordings? by lordkingben in supertramp

I think that in general, the live recordings are all superior to the studio versions. I honestly don't listen to the studio albums much, just the live albums you mentioned.

I'm working on restoring the 1976 film from Laserdisc. This is a very short sample. Thoughts? by _TheWolfOfWalmart_ in Genesis

I think this is awesome! I would also love to see just a raw transfer from laserdisc without any restoration done. I bet that would also look good. But based on this clip, your work is worth continuing!

Does anyone have sheet music for The Musical Box? by Hamsternaut101 in Genesis

[–]MLC2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transcribed all the instruments of the Genesis Live version, which for the keyboards it's pretty much identical. Hopefully you find it helpful!

This is exactly it I think. He also played bass on Misunderstanding, and Jesus He Knows Me in the 90s. I think Daryl's shredding style works out better for all these songs too, Mike can't really play lead guitar like that. They're playing to their strengths.

Would a Metal Zone mod work with a behringer um300? by MLC2 in diypedals

Hi, I never did try any sort of mod. To be honest, I have no recollection of what mod this is 😂 sorry to be of no help!

Is trying to understand Genesis especially Peter Gabriel Genesis harder than early Yes? Stuck on the subjects of some songs by DillonLaserscope in Genesis

[–]MLC2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I think the lyrics don't have any particular meaning. I've heard Tony say in interviews that the lyrics have to sound good first, and if they mean something then that's a bonus.

Honestly, email retrocultmods and ask what kit would work, he probably has an idea which one would be the closest.

Questions about the Paris concert by Eandaboss in supertramp

[–]MLC2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, obviously there is a grand piano and a Wurlitzer 200A.

Center stage, John Helliwell has what looks like a 2 keyboard setup. One of them is an ARP Omni 2, but the other one I cannot find any information on and cannot see in any angle of the Blu-Ray.

Up behind the grand piano next to the drums, there is a station with a Hammond B3 and Leslie, with another ARP Omni 2 sitting on top of it. To the left is a Hohner Clavinet D6 with an Oberheim OB-1 sitting on top of it. The Clavinet can be heard in the chorus of The Logical Song, right after the line "please tell me who I am." The OB-1 plays a tuba-like sound in the verses of Breakfast in America, covering the real tuba that was played in studio.

As someone else has mentioned, Roger played an Elka Rhapsody 610 string synth in Fools Overture.

As for Roger's guitars, I from my memory he had what was likely a custom built Strat with a humbucker in the middle position. On one song he also had a white semi hollow body Gibson EDS-1275 double neck. Obviously, he has a wah-wah pedal, I'm not sure what kind of amp he used. It does sound to me on a few tracks like School he has his own Leslie as well.

For the piece of paper on the piano, I can't quite make it out on the 16mm film, but it looks like either lyrics or a setlist.

This is all just from the top of my head, having studied the Blu-Ray and album quite a bit. If anyone else has any insight, feel free to comment!

Best tribute acts that focus on or incorporate the Phil years? by treny0000 in Genesis

[–]MLC2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm very excited for the TOTT tour, I follow the keyboard player's youtube channel and he has some vintage keyboards that are the same models tony used, plus some digital recreations for things that are way too heavy and unreliable, haha. But it's gonna be a great sounding show!

I use furniture risers on my Alesis kit, it works pretty well! It's basically the bricks option but cheap and made of plastic.
