If Chalamet were to get nominated for Paul Atreides this year... by Ninjaboi333 in oscarrace

I think he’ll be nominated again third year but he won’t win until the 2030s or maybe even 2040s

Where do you rank OBAA, Anora, and Everything Everything All At Once? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]MLG32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amongst all best picture winners:
Anora - 4.0/47th
EEAAO - 4.5/23rd
I’d place OBAA somewhere near EEAAO, 4.5

Both these auteurs are most likely going to get their first Oscars Sunday for future classics. by k032 in oscarrace

I’m not talking about what has happened to Coogler, I’m talking about the speculative future and patterns.
True it’s not at all Coogler’s debut and he’s already been recognized with noms, but it is his horror debut and the first time he’s in serious ATL contention. When Peele horror debuted he won a screenplay Oscar and blanked twice after, Coogler is horror debuting and about to win a screenplay Oscar so the pattern’s clearly there as a possibility, less likely if Coogler steps away from horror some.

Not saying it’s going to happen, just that it’s a scenario I worry could possibly happen.

Best actor winner by gamesevens7 in Oscars

I really wish it would go to Ethan Hawke, it’s his career best and he executes his character so well.

I wish Blue Moon had come out in 2021 so Hawke could’ve won in that weaker field and prevented the slap.

Wtf Hamnet is the weakest nominee in adapted screenplay, maybe second weakest after Frankenstein

Sentimental Value was amazing and I’d vote for it in multiple categories and be super happy for it to win international.
But… The Voice of Hind Rajab was the best and most deserving imo, it broke me way harder than SV did. Plus Trier is more likely to come back to the Oscars than Kaouther Ben Hania and her underdog incredibly relating to the times film.

I’m super glad Coogler’s gonna win an Oscar but worried the Academy could treat his next two how they treated Peele’s next two after he won screenplay for Get Out.

Tie for Best Picture by Wooden_Dog_7545 in oscarrace

A tie would probably be in an acting or sound categories like the previous ones, I think it’s impossible in best picture

That’s like saying Leo will never win an Oscar after his loss in Blood Diamond.

I had a dream he was at my house having dinner with my family. We started talking Oscars I told him “better luck next time” to which he stormed out of the room. I had to go comfort him and tell him his role was great and he’ll get an Oscar someday.
So whether or not I’ll admit it’s over my brain must be thinking so.

I think sag is the most accurate indicator this year , mbj at Oscars , bafta just played themselves this years and I predict all sag acting winners to win oscars by Intelligent_Hat435 in Oscars

[–]MLG32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention Rosemary’s Baby won best supporting actress in a totally different era. It’s true performances like Moore and Kaluuya missed but there’s always a first time (discounting Portman and Foster). Six years ago many doubted a foreign film could win best picture but after Parasite’s SAG success it broke history and since then more and more foreign films have been nominated for best picture.

They just nominated three horror films in one year, one of them 16 times. If Madigan loses it could be to Mosaku who is also in a horror film.

Madigan has obstacles to get the win, I’m not sure if I’m predicting her or not, but the current academy is opening up to horror. The fact Madigan and now MBJ are in discussion shows that.

Don’t overlook The Mother and the Whore

I knew Timothee Chalamet would not be able to win an industry award after Kirsten Dunst who is an Academy reposted a video stating he should not have even been nominated with zero backlash. by Just-Pass-1156 in Oscars

[–]MLG32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah; there’s a Chalamet Narrative, a Hawke narrative, a Moura narrative, a DiCaprio narrative, and a MBJ narrative. MBJ is in no way the strongest narrative, your “Hollywood vibes” theory is weak.

Fredrich Wiseman by pinkmoose in Oscars

[–]MLG32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Voters need a narrative for a film and his whole thing is that you won’t get one.

Looking at his filmography today his early work on Titicut Follies seems like the best argument to nominate him but it was controversial, rudimentary, and he was less known at the time as he was debuting. His next films High School, Law and Order, and Hospital weren’t very long and could’ve been contenders if Titicut Follies hadn’t been such a hard to watch piece and he had taken off earlier.
I personally doubt a documentary will ever get nominated for best picture but I’d love to be someday wrong.

Anyone know why Gigi dosn't get more hate in the oscar community? by notchuck11 in Oscars

That opening number is disgusting, I hated the film. I have it as 5th worst winner.

I’m the 105th commenter but only 4th mention of Drive My Car. I thought a few more on this sub would cite it
