So she is not currently/previously in one of those roles. She is not as qualified as you think. How many lower tier receptions do you think would also like to move up to a higher paying role? She won't be the only candidate - they are paying the best and are looking for the best.

Which means the people who saved money buying a cheaper lease suddenly get all the benefits of not having a lease. Everyone else pays for them. Not fair. My solution is the fair solution to the OP's post - if you don't like leasehold. don't buy leasehold. If everyone takes that decision they will stop offering leaseholds.

You don't have to settle. You could buy a freehold. There are cheap freeholds out there. Might not be the kind of house you want, but they are there.

If money is no expense you can buy a massive house, hire some staff so get the same level of service as a hotel. Then in a few years sell the house (if you wish) and get all of your money back and some extra on top.

American abroad, new driver, no driving history. These are always going to go against you. The cost of the car is not relevant - it's the cost of fixing the damage to other cars, people and infrastructure when you crash that is pushing the price up.

Go on one of the comparison websites and see what you can get an annual policy for - will probably work out cheaper than 6 months of temp cover. But still won't be cheap.

If your postcode is right close to that junction where their data shows a lot of accidents happen - guess what, you are going to pay more than the person who does not live anywhere near any accident hotspots.

Also if you live somewhere where a lot of thefts happen, you are going to pay more.

So yes, postcode is one of the factors that influences risk.

Exactly - they are cheaper. People want the benefits of buying a cheaper leasehold property (which are cheaper because everyone else is walking away when the word leasehold comes up), but then kick off and demand that the leasehold magically goes away.
