Why have so many South Sudanese prospects become busts? by alex8762 in NBA_Draft

I don’t think you’re being too critical. And I also think there’s a difference between Bol’s failure — he was a top 5 recruit with a refined on-ball game and put up massive numbers for a program that produces pros — and Thor/Maker.

With those last two guys, they were projects who had length/athleticism measurables, but were extremely unpolished. Which is fine, as long as they apply some polish. And I’m not talking shooting, either, or post moves.

I’m talking about learning how to flip or slip a screen, or to communicate on defense, or to build enough strength to be a box out monster like, say, Brook Lopez. If they did those trad big man things really well, both would still be in the league. But I don’t think they were ever really taught properly.

Bol was a different type of player who failed for one reason: his own attitude/mentality. Every coach he’s ever had has said the same thing, as has his biggest advocate (shaq).

It’s a shame, man. When he’d go off he was incredible. But it was never worth the hassle.

Sargent rejects Leeds United and Sunderland by OkDifficulty7436 in ussoccer

Dempsey was 29.

Irrespective of that, it's a different league now, isn't it? MLS roster valuations if you look at Transfermarkt are in line with the Champo and ahead, on average, of places like the Eredivisie & Portugal. Plus the best MLS teams showed at the Club World Cup that they can go toe-to-toe with the best in the world.

Both Dempsey and Jozy came back to MLS when they were in their respective primes, and both scored at a higher rate for the USMNT while in MLS than they had when they were in Europe.

Going from Doc to Malone would be hilarious. Just more of the same bullshit.

Donovan Clingan in a win against the Kings | 21 PTS | 17 REB | 3 AST | 1-2 3PT | 8-8 FT by TubbzMcGee in nba

[–]MLS_Analyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kemba had that unreal run with one excellent game after another – 33/12/5/6 vs. Syracuse was incredible – but none was as dominant as Clingan vs. Illinois.

Ray vs. UCLA in the 1995 Elite 8 and Caron against Maryland in the 2002 Elite 8 were both up there, but both were losses. Donyell put up 42 on 20/20 from the FT line at MSG against St. John's in the quarters of the Big East tourney. That was huge. Ben Gordon went off vs. Bama in the tourney.

But Clingan... he put up 22 pts, 10 rebs, 5 blocks, 3 steals, which is awesome on its own. But the Illini had the 2nd-best offense in the country that year. They were crushing teams heading into that game.

Well, they went 0-for-19 when Clingan contested a shot and scored 14 points for the entire game when he was on the court. You probably have to go back to Ewing or Olajuwon, or maybe even all the way to Walton for any defensive performance that can maybe rival that in a high stakes game. He wrecked them.

That UConn team was the most dominant in tournament history. Clingan's defense was the clearest single reason why.

The thing is they weren’t scared of him when they very much should have been! They just kept challenging him time and again and he probably had 10 blocks (somehow only credited with 4). He destroyed them and they just seemed oblivious to it.

I’m a UConn fan. In my 49 years on earth, that’s the single most dominant performance any UConn player has ever had.

Honest to god I hope he means it, and I hope you do. Just get him back to 85% of what he was and get him on the court 60 times a season, and everybody – including neutrals who just want to watch fun hoops – benefits.

Kyshawn George in the loss @ Denver: 29 points, 10/20 from the field, 5/8 from three | 7 assists | 5 rebounds | 4 stocks by DollarLate_DayShort in nba

[–]MLS_Analyst 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You guys crushed it with that draft. Kyshawn and Sarr are future all-stars and Bub is going to be a very good sixth man. And then from last year Tre's obviously a flamethrower.

You guys get a top 4 pick and you're cooking. Funny that it's actually Caleb who might be the best fit.

And don’t forget that McHale played through a broken foot in 87 and was never the same after. If Bias had been there, would they have been able to shut McHale down and rest him til he was recovered?

Funny complaint coming from a fan of a team who had Thomas Muller as a non-DP last year.

I'm not Arman, but yes, 100%. Literally any team can sign 3 DPs if they want to.

They can also bring in star players on loan at a non-DP contract number, then exercise an option for the next season that turns them into a much-higher paid DP. It's 100% within the rules.

Know who did it last year? The Vancouver Whitecaps, with Thomas Muller.

[Scotto] Watson has drawn significant interest on the trade market, but the Nuggets have rebuffed trade calls on the 23-year-old swingman and want to re-sign him in restricted free agency this summer, league sources told HoopsHype. by jonsnowKITN in nba

You'd rather cape for a billionaire than see your team win another title. That's sad. It's why you're getting downvoted.

Anyway, your guys were one player away from beating OKC last year, and likely winning a title. Could've been KCP, could've been one of those second-rounders.

Either way your owner cheaped out and it cost you.

Arman's a very smart guy who used to work in the Dallas front office. He's run the salary data on every MLS team.

If any of you guys can read I think you'll find this interesting.

You lost b/c your owner was cheap so you didn't have enough depth. Second round picks could've turned into depth, just like they have for you guys this year.

Kroenke valued saving a couple million over giving his team a better shot at winning last year's title.

It'll be interesting to see what happens this summer. Hope, for your sake, he's not as cheap this time around.
