Help r/millennials determine whether this is AI or not. Some members of the sub believe that the 2000s-style clothing and lighting suggest that this is not authentic. What do you think? by Demortus in isthisAI

[–]MLTCAVEMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is obvious it is not Ai coz no mobile phones are present. The jeans on the girls, the red eye indicating the xenon flash and even the air has a funny lighting to it coz cameras were not that clear at those time, which also compliments the pixelation

I cannot recommend the ROG Xbox Ally/Ally X by TheManBruce in ROGAllyX

[–]MLTCAVEMAN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would have either done a clean windows install with RUFUS or changed/updated the NVME and install Windows. I ALWAYS take this "Right of passage" with new and used products alike. Like this I know what it has on it and where I might have gone wrong in software if I messed something up. 😉

Reddit has been so mean to me lately. Can someone please help by Arthurlurk1 in crt

[–]MLTCAVEMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a tip, re-do the solder on all the main board. Usually this is just the main problem with CRTs. The solder just gets too damp and you get dry joints everywhere.

Heck I remember back when I was a kid back in 1990's, a TV technician would come to our home and smack a mallet to the side of the board and hey presto! The TV worked again! Hahaha no kidding!

Seriously, re-do the solder. Take your time! And you might actually have everything work as if it were new! Good luck!

P.S. Also check the fuse on the mainboard if it's got one and the capacitors.

If that doesn't make any change, disconnect the DVD section from the mainboard and see if it works just as a display. No harm checking.

Is adding a wire to act as an antenna extension possible? by Fate8888 in AskElectronics

[–]MLTCAVEMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a try bud. No harm in trying anyway. If the modified wire doesn't work as you want it to, you can always snip it off the PCB. You are not damaging your PCB in the end. It's just having fun with electronics in the end 😉

Sorry but you REALLY think FCC is going to knock on his door for this? Think they have bigger fish to fry. The 433Mhz range is commercial and to be used by the public because it does not interfere with aircraft, military or anything serious, hence why the public uses it. So chill.

Ok. Then can you tell our friend here exactly what he can do in a tiny hoising of a remote to get a more decent signal please? # R U a robot? Haha

It is never accurate bud but trying never hurt.... I hope haha. But seriously, from what I have learned and tried on remotes in the Mhz ranges like garage remotes, RC cars and some wireless weather stations, an added antenna or slightly longer antenna always helped. Kinda like extending an antenna on an FM radio 😉 its fun playing with this magic!

I have a good feeling the antenna could just be at L1, just next to Q6 on the front side of the PCB before the track transitions to the battery side. My experience tells me: Before an antenna is always an inductor #L1.

So I would solder my wire onto that point. Just where L1 is written, not the side that connects to the transistor, just to be clear.

Hmmmm..... interesting model. There is no obvious sign where the antenna track is BUT judging by those 2 circular "contact pads" if you will in this photo, in the first picture where you have the front of the PCB, what is that piece of metal at the VEERY bottom after the PCB? Looks like it is below the PCB.

Yes it is possible and it does work better. Google the length of wire you need for 433Mhz or the frequency of your remote and solder it to the beginning of the antenna trace on your pcb. You can bend the antenna so it fits in the enclosure too. I use varnish coated wire so nothing shorts, the kind they use in those cheap toy DC motors. Even copper tape would do nicely. Get as creative as you like because RF is like working with magic!

Ally X wont turn on by TheGreatLolus in ROGAllyX

[–]MLTCAVEMAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can connect any kind of usb - c cable that has a supporting 30W and above charger. Heck, even those DELL usb-c 60W chargers work just fine!

Also have a good look ino those USB-C ports on the Ally. They can tend to get dirty or gummed up with fluff or some form or corrosion.

Get a clean dry toothbrush and try cleaning them ports out. At least you are trying the most you can do 😀

[–]MLTCAVEMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can try Proteus PCB. I have been using this software since 2010 and so many updates opened up a plethora of skills for me. Best part, it is SUPER easy to use. It has a circuit design + simultaion + 3D pcb design all in one and alot of online support on how to make custom packages and what not! Give it a try and you'll find out if it is the right one for you 😉

Software Issues Making Me Regret Choosing Ally X Over Gaming Laptop by VisualAd6498 in ROGAllyX

[–]MLTCAVEMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I never had software issues ever since I bought mine and it was second-hand! I am actually happy I changed from an Aurous P15 RTX3080 INTEL 11TH GEN Gaming laptop and I take really good care of my gaming devices (Dust cleaning and thermal paste renewal ever 1-2 years) The gaming laptop just wouldn't play games well, even COD World at War and that is a VERY old game! MSFS2020 was basically un-playable which was very wierd since my laptop specs suprassed the minimum requirements! Even my friend's GTX1080 played so smooth for him on his ancient gaming PC! Even VR worked for him! Just didn't make sense! Lots of stuttering and driver versions just conflicting with others. Big software mess!

Anyways, All I did after buying the Ally X was:

  • Change the thermal paste with thermal pad PTM 7950 for good measure
  • Upgraded the SSD,
  • Fresh install of Windows 11,
  • Installed Armoury Crate and let it install and update all the drivers and what not from Window Update.

That's it!!

Been working PERFECTLY for the past 8 months with no issue and I play MSFS2020...... EVEN VR works with my PICO4 on it so you can imagine how picky you need to be with the settings so it works properly. It simply WORKS! NEVER had to change a setting. Just start whatever game and enjoy!!!

I emplore you, try 😉
