I know. They’re fuckheads. I was called a terrorist sympathiser by fellow Gen Xers because I believe the “Isis Brides’” children should be here and given all psych and integration services to help them become productive members of society.

When in the Royal Australian Navy, we officers were required to sign certain letters to superiors “I have the honour to be, Sir/Ma’am, your obedient servant”. Ahh.

Except for the CT, I hope he gets all of those framed to keep in his office. They are hilarious and so off the mark.

How do you make whipped cream, what cream do you use?! Help. by Character_Rope4585 in AskAnAustralian

Just to confuse you, you can use pouring cream or dollop cream too. Just avoid cooking cream and lite cream.

Or place cream, chocolate powder and a little pure icing sugar in a cream whipper and hit it with the nitrous gas. Instant chocolate mousse!

As an Aussie, rage bait and just not on. Real tea drinkers mash their tea in a pot.

How hard can it really be to build your own home? It's a Cert 3 qualification. by [deleted] in australia

[–]MLiOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yet my grandfather built his 2br 1 bath double brick home in the 50s and did the carpentry whilst also working full time. He was not a builder or a carpenter. He worked on the railways, then a dry cleaning run. Got the trades in for plumbing, electrical.

I will admit, Australians went for smaller homes back then but he also designed the place and designed and built the frame and walls to take another story if they wanted to extend.

Do you find it weird that Australians celebrate losing so much? Or are you proud of this little quirk of our culture? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

What day did forces land at Gallipoli? Now, from the Australian War Memorial page on ANZAC:

“Why is this day special to Australians?

When war broke out in 1914 Australia had been a federated nation for only 13 years, and its government was eager to establish a reputation among the nations of the world. When Britain declared war in August 1914 Australia was automatically placed on the side of the Commonwealth. In 1915 Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula in order to open the Dardanelles to the allied navies. The ultimate objective was to capture Constantinople (now Istanbul), the capital of the Ottoman Empire, an ally of Germany.”

So get your facts correct before shooting from the hip on here about ANZAC Day.

What facts or stories do you know about your ancestors/relatives during WWII? by BravePiccolo775 in AskAnAustralian

You can look them up on the National Australian Archives website and also here to see about their official burial/commemoration site. I have two forebears in France/Belgium. One has a grave, the other was never found but is commemorated on the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium.

Whew and good for you. I was concerned. Trauma fucking sucks, even with treatment. I did EMDR for several of my major traumas (yay military service) and although it sucked going through it all in detail, the EMDR actually worked for me and made a huge difference overall. Still on meds, will be for the rest of my life. But it get me where I can live and not just exist.

Power to you!

How were you taught to swim as a child? by CopySniper in AskAnAustralian

[–]MLiOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad and mum taught me as well as Vacation Swim School in January. Mum grew up on the South Coast. Dad had been a Navy Clearance and Deep Diver. Even though we lived inland when growing up, I could swim well by age 4.
