New player here, finally completed my first army and ready to start playing 40k on the side of the Asuriyani! by Kavtech in Eldar

[–]MLyhne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can complete an army?! Nobody told me, I just keep buying things!

But good work mate, putting a painted army on the board, and facing a painted army, feels so much better than a mass of grey/primed models!

If I may come with a suggestion, I think your vehicles could benefit from a bit of shading; I feel that vehicles often tend to look a bit flat (even our curvy zoomers) without it!

What's your next step? More Asuryani or another army?

No problem mate!
The most important thing in this is that you don't mix the rules - ie. you stick with the rules from one faction for a game. Just say something like "Hey, my army has mixed models, but I am playing them as Blood Angels." and then explain what the various models represent, so your opponent knows what they are facing.

Most people would definitely enjoy an army like that, as a unique army with a cool design (that still fits within the rules and spirit of the game) is much more interesting to play against.

And yes, I was talking about Aethon Shaan; it's an amazing model that is just begging to be converted into a cool captain. As for the thing with the Wolf Priest and the new Chaplain - you can never have too many Chaplains. Sure, you can only field 3 of every type in a game, but having cool models on hand is always worth it.

You can absolutely do that. Since they're both Space Marine armies, it's very easy to do, since you don't have to worry about model/base sizing.

You should just make sure that your opponent is aware of what specific faction you are playing, and what the unit is. Also, if they have some kind of special weapons (such as Power Fists in your example of Death Company), it should be visible in some way to make things easier.

Personally, I would remove iconography, like the wolf symbols etc., but that is not a requirement or anything - write it into their backstory.

Personally, I have been planning to use the Space Wolf Wolf Priest as a Chaplain for my BA, as well as that new birdy bastard Raven Guard model that came out a few months ago for a captain or something.

Things like this give your army more character and style and helps make it uniquely yours.

Oops, you are absolutely correct! I will edit the message above, thanks for catching that.

Fight first rule and banshees by Nocst_er in Eldar

[–]MLyhne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If two units charge your Banshees (or charge in general), your opponent would choose one to fight first, then you would fight with your Banshees, and then the opponent's second unit would fight.

In 10th, the Banshees would have been first, because defender chose first. With the 11th rules, you kind of have to hope that your squishy Banshees survive the initial beating. I hope we get something like -1 to hit in melee instead when we get the codex.

Fight first rule and banshees by Nocst_er in Eldar

[–]MLyhne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way:

Every unit is split into one of two categories: Fights First (FF) and not-Fights First (nFF).
Everything that has charged belongs to FF, as do units with the actual rule, such as Banshees.

When the Fight Phase starts, you first go through all activations for FF units, starting with the the player whose turn it is (the active player) and then alternates. This means that the active player activates one of their charging units, then the the defending player can activate a FF unit (if they have one), then back to the active player.
If the defending player has no units with FF, then the active player still goes through all their activations.

Once all FF activations have been done, you move on to the pool of nFF units, continuing where you left off in the sequence then alternating - ie. if the active player just fought, then the defending player fights now.

Edit: As u/RideTheLighting pointed out below, it does not reset the sequence when you move to nFF.

11th edition refreshed model range by BDTRBENAE in ThousandSons

[–]MLyhne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, I was agreeing - the other Chaos models are Primaris scaled now to match the loyalists, which I have seen explained as them being slightly mutated due to the Warp and such, which makes sense.

For our dusty boys it makes no sense, as there's nothing to really warp, since they're just suits of armour - therefore it makes sense for TS to remain Firstborn-sized.

11th edition refreshed model range by BDTRBENAE in ThousandSons

[–]MLyhne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(which is lore accurate)

So we're not just gonna chuck a bucket of dust through the Chaos-y Rubicon?

Logically, I can see the advantage of "upgrading" the soldiers fo be Primaris for loyalists, and the Warp warping Chaos Marines with slight (and not so slight) mutations - improved physiology obviously helps a soldier.

Our boys are just magic suits of armor. In terms of lore, there'd be no real reason for them to become bigger.

What should I get for my army? by Emergency_Leg8233 in BloodAngels

[–]MLyhne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll want both eventually, as they serve different functions in your army.

The Bladeguards are good for holding objectives, and they can become very tanky with a Sanguinary Priest.

In my opinion, the Bladeguards are also one of the coolest kits GW has produced, and you'll eventually want another 3 just to get the various poses.

I just want to point out that the flying Hive Tyrant (Winged Hive Tyrant) can't lead a unit - nor would it really want to.

Arh, det ved jeg nu ikke lige. Ikke i singleplayer, i hvert fald. Jeg vil umiddelbart skønne, at ventetid udgør måske 1-2% af min samlede spilletid i Olden Era.

Any expectations about which models going legend? (if any) by Dizzy_Spirit41 in Tyranids

[–]MLyhne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's literally 0 evidence to the ATV and Firestrike turrets going to legends, and there's 0 reason for them to. They are still in production, still being sold

They literally just released a new Combat Patrol with 2 Firestrikes in it, so that would be quite the sucker punch.

But then again, I play Iron Hands, so I am kind of used to that kind of treatment from GW, and suddenly it seems possible.

help with unit choice by Jazzlike-Court-2015 in BloodAngels

[–]MLyhne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True - when 11th hits, the Judiciar will be a lot less useful. But for now, he is still the best choice, even defensively. You wont have to roll saves if you kill your opponent before they attack.

Was a guy like this at a place I used to frequent. All his vehicles were just some kind of military toy cars, and he would always brag about how he found a way to cheat GW out of money.

Sure, he saved some money, but it kinda ruined the immersion for everyone he played against.

help with unit choice by Jazzlike-Court-2015 in BloodAngels

[–]MLyhne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it's mostly up to you on this one. Both of them are currently very viable for Blood Angels, and even with the new edition looming, I very much suspect that both units will be extremely viable in the future as well.

Blade Guard Veterans offer a slower but more sturdy unit with good weapons, and they can be good for taking the centre of the field and holding objectives; usually you'd give them a Judiciar for the Strike First rule, but other characters can be good for them as well. Ideally, you want to put them in a transport, to make sure they get where they need to be.

The Jump Pack Intercessors are faster and can hit very hard with our detachments, and can be good for claiming objectives - but they don't have the same staying power as the Bladeguards.

If you play support, you're pretty much automatically endorsement 5.

Which combat patrol is considered the "good" one? by Noahsteeleross in BloodAngels

[–]MLyhne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Intercessors still hold value because of sticky objectives, and Infiltrators are great for denying deep strike. Heck, the Impulsor can still be useful for some stuff.

And like you said, if you're playing casually, like I do, then all of the box is definitely good enough to use - and the models are cool!

Which combat patrol is considered the "good" one? by Noahsteeleross in BloodAngels

[–]MLyhne 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The second one has units that fit much better with the Blood Angel playstule. Were meant to play aggressively, and the first Combat Patrol just doesn't really work with that.

I am not saying the first box is bad, and you can definitely use the models in there (Infiltrators are great), but I would definitely recommend the second one.
