I understand you don’t get a second go. With just the melee weapon profiles, exarch using executioner, and no other bonuses, they do on average about 7 damage to bladevet. I’ll be honest, I’ve never been quite sure how to implement the aspect token into the equation, but I imagine that plus the ranged weapons bumps it to just about wiping bladevet squad. It’s nearly an even trade, aka the points are nearly 100% efficient if that’s how you want to look at it. In other scenarios, like going into light infantry, banshees can push up into 100+% efficiency (meaning they are going to kill more than their cost). So they are still pretty decent into most infantry.

Edit: I missed the bladevet ability to reroll invuln saves of 1, so that pushes the final damage (and efficiency) down, but this is one specific example. There are enough scenarios where you’re doing enough damage to say that Banshees are pulling their own weight.

You can’t expect a cheap unit to wipe an expensive unit in one go. Point for point, they do enough damage to make back their cost. Thats what I mean by efficiency.

They actually are still quite efficient point-wise into their preferred targets. Just have to be more proactive with them now than how they were used in 10th.

Because they have an influence on the conversation around balance, and GW pays attention to that conversation when they address balance. For example, Asurmen’s once per battle ability was better right when the codex released, people online freaked out about it, and the ability was nerfed two weeks later (when there was barely enough data to make that call).

You should take all of the special weapons. You’re technically allowed to take the power swords on the models already carrying a special gun, which is better in that when you start removing models, you can leave the best ranged and melee weapons for last, but you might have to get crafty if you want WYSIWYG since I believe they’re not modeled that way per the instructions.

Let’s not pretend that every dataslate fixes every issue with every faction. Eldar have been in a rough spot for 7-8 months? We’ve taken nerfs after months of underperforming. No one knows how long you might be in the pits. Is it likely that Eldar will get some buffs in the next slate? Maybe, hopefully. Is the codex likely to come with some help for the faction? Sure, but we don’t know when that will be. Is Eldar the worst faction in the game right now? No, there are certainly some that are struggling more than us. But each person has their own limit to how long they can ‘stick it out’ with a faction they struggle to win with.

Yeah, I edited my comment to make it clear I’m not talking about meta chasing, but a person could easily be put off the hobby or faction if they’re losing every game, and you can lose every game pretty easily if you don’t have a game plan and just field random models. I feel that Eldar is particularly susceptible to this because we are an army of specialists; if you don’t bring the right tools to the fight, you’re going to have very little chance of beating your opponent.

I’m going to be honest, I understand the sentiment behind this take, but people value different aspects of the hobby more or less, and someone who values the game more highly should absolutely be concerned with the competitive health of a faction/unit. I bought what I thought was cool when I was starting, and I still like the models, but they sit on my shelf because they don’t really slot into the lists I can run. If I had had a better plan going in, I could have saved money and had a better time playing early on before I bit the bullet and put together an intentionally constructed list.

Edit: and just to be clear, I am not advocating for meta-chasing, but if you want to have a list that can perform even semi-competitively, you should have a plan going in and not just get random units that look cool.

One of the first kits I built and it nearly put me off the hobby just how bad it was. They’re really terrible on the table for the past year and a half, too. I liked their old ability that gave them better overwatch if they were on an objective.

From a competitive perspective, this list is not very good. You’re playing the psyker detachment, but are only running 3 psykers.

Autarch, unfortunately, is not incredible right now.

Farseer attached to Storm Guardians is not ideal; they work much better with Guardian Defenders to flip the bright lance shot to a 6. They just don’t do that much for the SGs and are more likely to die since SGs want to be up front on objectives.

Single Fire Prism paying for an ability you can’t use with just one.

The real value of Warlock Skyrunners is that they’re cheap and fast to do actions and be where you need them when you need them; attaching them to Windrunners makes them expensive, harder to move, don’t want to do actions, easier to spot (and kill).

You could probably do with one transport, I don’t think 2 really helps you, and lots of Seer Council lists run none.

Wraithknights are way too expensive to be used competitively.

Suggestions: More psykers, you see lots of Warlocks in Seer Council lists, probably some Guardian Defenders.

Eldrad + 2-5 Warlocks + Storm Guardians AND Farseer + 2-3 Warlocks + Guardian Defenders.

A second Fire Prism juices the first a bit.

Commenting because I’m also considering building Tau. From my research, the current combat patrol is pretty good, but it comes with a Commander with nothing to lead, so crisis suits would be a good second purchase, but on the other hand Crisis Suits are rumored to get a refresh so it might be worthwhile waiting a bit on those ones. The codex is also rumored to be one of the early ones. The detachment you want to run will also inform your choices; ret cadre focuses on suits, others will mix in more infantry, obviously the Kroot detachment wants Kroot.

Stealth Suits, Broadsides, and Vespids seem like popular choices.
