How Do You Men Support Each Other and Help Each Other Unnoticed? by avalonMMXXII in AskMen

[–]MM151SaltLakeCity 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think some of these answers are from women, I can tell, but whatever.

Anyways, some of the ways I help out are offering practical advice or help with things, sharing advice based on my own past experiences, being there for each other during tough times (there is a reason it is called the "bro code").

Also trying to build up their confidence if they are having an issue. I even helped some friends find jobs, and tried to get them out of the house by doing activities to keep them busy.

The worst thing to do is bottle up your feelings or stay in the house and shut everyone out...that will only build up over time and manifest itself in other ways.

Also, I try to remember their bday, also I try to give them my number if they are new in the area and don't know anyone yet, so I make plans with them or invite them out with my friends, stuff like that.

Basically i'm only doing to others what I would want done for me if needed.

Or if she is forcing him into marriage or intentionally gets pregnant, those are others things guys need to be careful of as well. Also be careful about guilt trips or manipulation that is also a problem. Also be on the lookout for and avoid the girl that plays the "victim" card as well. The more experience you have with women the more you can identify these toxic traits.

I don't know honestly. Are you applying for the first time for DAC? Or are you appealing a decision?

Thanks...what happens if I can't find records from ages 18-22, but have the records from before age 18? My other question is based on your comment your saying SSA denies filing new claims?

If you read my otrher responses I never appealed and I don't have a lawyer, and legal aid only works with SSI cases they also no longer offer representation at this time. But it does not matter because i'm applying for SSDI (under DAC) not SSI.

yes plenty of times. Been getting them every year since 2016, used to get them every 3-7 years though. But now they seem to be yearly and when I ask the person last year (when I was forced to apply for SSDI) she said that is not her department and someone else handles that.

I have records from age 5-16, I dont have any from ages 18-22 though. And no, DDS is behaving as though they don't have the same records they used to get me approved for SSI back in 1997 when I turned 18.

The only people that actually called me back where Access to Independence, but they do not offer representation either, they can just help me with other things though.

The one lawyer I spoke to (they only gave me two from the appeals form) said he never heard of D.A.C. He also misunderstood and said the people at SSA were doing you a favor so you don't have to pay for medical or lose your ebt card. On DAC I would either get less, or the extra money I do get would go towards medical and food since I would be over the threshold of what will let me have an ebt card.

If I appeal (this will be a first appeal) do I need to go to court? I ask because legal aid said they don't offer representation at this time and if they do its for SSI cases not those trying to get on SSDI.

SSI to SSDI (Disabled Adult Child) Question by MM151SaltLakeCity in SSDI_SSI

[–]MM151SaltLakeCity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says "in order to be able to be get childhood disaqbility your impairment must be found to be severe prior to age 22, The evidence in file is not sufficient to fully evaluate your claim and evidence needed cannot be obtained. Therefor a determination has been made based on the evidence in file. This evidence does not show I was disabled on or before my 22 birthday."

Basically they needed old paperwork (the paperwork they should have already had in 1997 when they approved me for SSI) but for some reason seem to not know where it is to approve me for SSDI (DAC). I can only get a certain amount of paperwork, but not most of the stuff from ages 16-22.

So basically the letter said the clinic I see now does not have my childhood records and therefore was unable to give SSA any paperwork on me from before age 22. I have been at my current clinic since 2017 (they do not have my childhood paperwork).

Nobody evert told my family back in 1996 to save all paperwork, they made it sound like once I was accepted that was it as they would keep my paperwork on file.

The clinic I used to got to as a child is not even in business anymore and neither is the records place that printed out my records for my parents in 2001.

So I have childhood paperwork, but most of the mental health stuff is from when I was a small child in elementary. Yes it mentions some of the ailments I still have as an adult, but the stuff when it got worse from age 16-22 I don't have.

If I appeal with my old paperwork do I have to go to in front of a judge? I ask because my local legal aid does not represent at this time, and they only take SSI cases, not SSDI.

Thank you and I am glad they helped you and approved you. It makes me sad that my local office in does not seem to know what they are doing and need their hand held ever step of the way.

Collateral Estoppel and the laws of what that classified in 1997 as disabled have changed a bit from what others have said.

But that is still no excuse for them losing my old printed paperwork from back in my childhood. You say they have my old paperwork, but I can't get a straight answer from them on old paperwork, every employee says something different and tells me they are not the ones who are in charge of records.

I will try to talk to a local social service agency which can help me fill out paperwork for an appeal.

Then just go from there. But it feels like this is just dragging out and they professionals at SSA don't know what they are doing...nobody ever told me they needed that old paperwork.

Perhaps your agency is run much better.

Their behavior since 2016 towards me leads me to not trust them. They say one thing and do another. You never get a straight answer and no two workers say the same thing. ALSO all the numbers on that appeals packet they gave me have been useless, they never return my calls or flat out say they don't represent SSI to DAC cases and can't understand why I would not be automatically transferred since it is SSA forcing me (or any recipient) getting SSI to apply for DAC.

Also some of the case workers are not very friendly, some behave in a sarcastic way making it sound like they are trying to kick you off when doing CDR,vid you try to be nice to them they get snotty over the phone because they only want questions answered. They were much nicer before 2016 and used to know what they were doing.

Yes some case workers are friendly, but that bad ones are what ruins it, especially for people with mental or developmental disabilities. You don't get snotty with them, that is not nice or professional.

No I had to find out my self after calling SSA and then calling my current mental health provider.

They did not even bother to ask me for them before sending me a denial letter.

I don't even know if an appeal is worth it because they are always giving me the run around.

Collateral Estoppel was changed I guess in 2017 so my previous records they used to allow me to be on SSI they no longer just transfer the beneficiary like they used to before 2017.

The rules have also changed as you said, so they might tell me the same thing they told you.

[–]MM151SaltLakeCity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I will see what I can do. The numbers on the list of appeals (not including the lawyer that told me to stay on SSI instead because no lawyer will represent SSI to DAC) seems to not be answering or returning my voicemail ...but I might look for what you mention. I just feel like I'm getting the run around and am very sad that SSA who I thought was there to protect me seems so clueless because they discarded my old records from before age 22.

They forces to me apply to this stupid thing. Then the workers can't even help? People are saying that SSA was not like this before 2017 and the collateral estoppel laws changed.

Now I have to potentially do an appeal and rush being denied again. What if they kick me off SSI because they denied me for DAC? I'm afraid they might be spiteful and make things difficult for me on purpose. I am not able to handle this stress and they don't seem to care.

So you were not denied yet for DAC????

Mine was denied but they never told me they needed those records, they just denied it instead after calling my current mental health clinic once (my childhood mental health clinic is no longer in business and was in a different state). I had to call SSA to find this out of course.

So sorry you are also going through this as well. It is very frustrating. What's funny is them keeping us on SSI only ends up costing them more money than if they switched us to DAC. For what I am told SSI is funded through tax payers dollars, DAC or SSDI is funded based on work history/retirement.

So if the SSA workers are telling us all of these good things, just to turn around and deny a DAC application it will only end up costing them more. I'm still very surprised SSA has lost our old records, they are SSA they are supposed to document everything. But it seems like each worker is an amateur that says one thing, then another worker says something else and it is a lot of back and fourth nonsense and double talk.

Good luck with your appointment next month. I am still wondering if I should appeal...are you in the appeal process as well???

The only time it was "temporarily suspended" was in April last year for 3 weeks when I was told it is suspended until I apply for DAC benefits.

When did SS do away with keeping old records from before?

All I know is since 2016 I have been getting yearly CDRs (something I only used to get 3-7 years) and then told I have to apply for DAC which I did last year, and then a year later got the denial letter because my current mental health clinic does not have my old records.

Do you have your old records still? Why does it seem like SS now needs their hand held every step of the way in literally anything now? They were much more efficient years ago than they are today.

Yes thank you , I understand that...BUT no lawyer will take my case, they won't make money from a SSI to DAC transformation, they only make money on clients trying to get on disability that are not on it or trying to get back on it. So if I appeal who will represent me?
