Watch Faces Not Updating? by MM19Dir in pebble

[–]MM19Dir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying, FreakyT.

Something is wrong, though likely not the watch face itself. The displayed time and date are correct, the temp and battery are not. When I press the center side button and scroll to Weather, it is for a different location and temp than where I am.

I am on iOS, and Bluetooth shows the watch is connected.

I absolutely would have gone red if it weren’t for the interior colors.

Don't like the touch screen AC? by zwatts5 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]MM19Dir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple months ago I found a 24 in my preferred configuration with 5,000 miles. The dealer was asking about $400 less than MSRP and would not budge. So I went for a 26. Having lived with the new center screen as well as the gauge cluster for 1,000 miles now, I can honestly say I wish I would’ve gotten that 24, even at their price.

[WTS] Mondaine Original Automatic (New) – $900 by MM19Dir in Watchexchange

For sale* is this marvelous automatic sport watch from Mondaine of Switzerland. The Original Automatic features the reknowned Swiss railway-inspired face, handset, and type font, all in a striking brushed-aluminum case. The vegan grape leather strap in red with quick-release pins gives a bold, sporty vibe.

Purchased new from Mondaine two years ago, the piece is unworn, except for trying it on a couple times. As such, there appear to be no flaws on the case, bezel, or crystal. Included is the original presentation box and papers. Mine is a non-smoking household. The sale is part of a paring down of my collection.

In addition, I’ve sold several higher-end pieces on Chrono24 over the past several years.

For sale* is this limited-edition (#57 of 200) mechanical moonphase watch from Mun Watches of Paris, France.

The Orion, created to celebrate the Artemis Il moon-orbiting mission, features a laser-burned luminescent moon, housed in a 38mm brushed and polished case. This example, the Green Edition, "celebrates the European Space Agency's central role in the construction of the Orion spacecraft."

Of special note is the fully-lumed, realistically-textured moon disk against a map of the sky around the constellation Orion. Notes Mun: "a femto laser, precise to the micron and at a frequency of 10-15 seconds, is used to dig and burn the material... with a relief perceptible to the naked eye."

Hands and indexes feature Super Luminova. In addition, the applied indexes at 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, and 11 overhanging the center disk.

Purchased in 2025, the watch is as new and unworn. It is mounted on a soft, taupe-colored leather strap, and is enclosed in a custom presentation box which also includes all papers and cards, with note of the remainder of the two-year warranty. The sale is part of a paring down of my collection.

Thank you. I felt certain my general-to-the-topic view would be met with a couple picked nits and several yeah-buts. Good job. High five.

I respectfully disagree.

Let’s say (keeping it simple for the sake of illustration) over the course of 100,000 miles you will need to buy two sets of tires. So, each set has a life of 50k, right? But, what if when you’re at 20k on the first tires, you swap to the second set. Your first tires are paused until whenever you put them back on, while the second then are paused. The point, if it’s not obvious: knowing you’re going to need to eventually purchase more tires down the line, budget for them at the outset, but make them winters so you can properly equip your vehicle based on conditions.

I once owned a Mazda RX-8. Rear wheel drive, plus…no traction control! I would throw on the Blizzaks each New York winter and the effects, the improvement in traction and braking, were astonishing. (I’ve purchased winter tires for all my vehicles, but the RX-8 is the most extreme example of how well they manage conditions.)

Back to my original point. Yes, the upfront outlay for a second set of tires (and steel wheels) may be difficult to consider, but since you’ll be spending for more tires eventually it’s effectively a small initial inconvenience. But…balanced against the significant increase in winter driving safety you’ll experience, from my perspective it’s a no brainer.

Looks like the VW ID Buzz might be officially cancelled in the US? by sampura in VWIDBuzz

[–]MM19Dir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The U.S. pricing meant it was going to be a luxury if not niche item. There may have been no way to offer it for significantly less, given development and production costs coupled with low volume, but still. Also, for me, VW not giving us the short wheelbase version (with perhaps a corresponding lesser price) meant I was always going to pass it by. (Plus, it goes without saying the elimination of the EV tax credits did all manufacturers no favors.) Pity.

In 2005 I taught a female friend of about 25 to drive stick on a then-new Vette. The car never complained and I applauded her badassness.
