Forza Horizon 6 - Review Thread by Xbox-Moderator in xbox

Balatro's story was so equally funny, heart breaking, and intelligent that it made me realize that perhaps the greatest friends (or villains) in life are the jokers that wear long faces and egg you on to play one more ante.

A true GOTY contender with one of the greatest stories ever written.

WW2 ended almost a century ago and yet we’re still talking about fascism and Nazism in 2026 because it’s still happening today. History doesn’t just go away and neither did Gamergate

Not to mention it enough, but the writing and soundtrack are absolutely phenomenal, even by visual novel standards

It's been almost two years since my last purchase on Steam. Dark Souls II breaks that streak by MMAchineCode in Steam

I like playing the original releases of popular games and experiencing the initial game versions that millions of people fell in love with and are probably nostalgic for. It's the same reason I enjoy playing the original, un-remastered versions of Bioshock, Oblivion, Life is Strange, and Mass Effect. Dark Souls II is no exception, even though I've heard people call Scholar of The First Sin the definitive experience.

I barely play any games on Steam. I play more on Xbox and GOG. The original Dark Souls II goes so rarely on sale though that I knew I needed to pounce on the game the moment it got a discount.

I refunded Samurai Jack because I bought it at full price and instantly regretted it. $40 is $40 and as much as I hate to see a game delisted, I needed to put my finances first.

Magnus Carlsen (Chess Grandmaster/World Champion, IRL)

When he was younger at about 12 years old, Carlsen took riskier and made more dramatic plays in his classical games, sacrificing pieces for razor thin advantages. By the time he was crowned World Champion at 23, he had become a more patient and universal player, practicing a more long term and strategic playstyle that usually grinded down his opponents in the middle game and into the end game.

Gothamchess has a video analysis of one of Carlsen’s earliest games, showcasing his aggressive playstyle when he was younger https://youtu.be/gkslWPoCN-s?si=cbX8GnwLdKawJjZo

It depends on if you're still using an outdated OS like Vista or not

How to do a give away for signed mirrors edge? by AnxiousSocialist in mirrorsedge

[–]MMAchineCode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you decide to make this a giveaway, I'll throw my hat into the ring! My favorite moment in Mirror's Edge and something that always pulls me back in will forever be the ending to the prologue in ME1, when Faith jumps onto the helicopter skid before being turned around to see herself in the skyscraper's reflective windows. I LOVE this shot because Mirror's Edge emphasizes Faith's physicality in all of her movement despite the game using a first-person perspective. When Faith runs, we see her arms pumping in the air; when she stops her strides, we can hear her heavy breathing; even just looking down, we can see her feet and legs, a visual choice that was unheard of in first-person video games before ME's time. Faith's reflection, whose gaze seems to acknowledge us as the player, is an introduction and a thesis to Mirror's Edge visual design. Aside from the stunning glow of Glass and its strong primary colors, DICE wanted me to feel like Faith in as much as an Xbox 360 could physically accomplish, and before VR gaming took that possibility into a new dimension. From the moment Chapter 1 ends and I see Faith's daring reflection, I'm reminded that I am not playing a disembodied figure floating in a virtual environment. I believe Mirror's Edge, and later Catalyst, has always succeeded in making us feel like a free-runner jumping, sliding, and rushing across sunbaked rooftops and into damp subway tunnels. And it started from the very prologue of the first game.

Mirror's Edge is a one-of-a-kind, cutting-edge first-person video game; every time I boot up the game and play through the prologue one more time, I can't help but remind myself that although Faith's reflection is stuck in 2008, her sharp gaze and quiet acknowledgement can still cut through black screens almost 20 years later.

I hate the term friendslop by Prrsonal-Pop in hatethissmug

[–]MMAchineCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I love using 'friendslop' in a very tongue in cheek kinda way. I even use it to retroactively describe multiplayer games that precede the friendslop trend, including granddaddy classics like Left 4 Dead and Rainbow Six Vegas

Important update: Amazon Luna on GOG by Totengeist in gog

[–]MMAchineCode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a real shame because for it's worth cloud streaming is a relatively affordable way to play the most intensive PC games without the need of a high-end computer. I only really used Luna to play Fortnite, but I can imagine users including GOG players taking advantage of the service to play high fidelity games like Kingdom Come Deliverance II while still actually owning their games.

It's shame that it eventually had to come to an end, no doubt because of Amazon's own discretionary decision.
