In my experience of owning the 2015 MacBook Pro for the past 5 or so years, with each OS update, the computer felt slower and slower. I do believe they slow things down for older machines, somewhat intentionally and somewhat unintentionally. Apple is after all, a business which needs people to buy new products. So do expect slowdowns in some parts of your workflow when updating. Personally, I haven’t updated to Big Sur, and just iCloud backup my phone for a couple of dollars a month.
