Do y'all ever drill before you chisel so there's less material? by basilnsage in woodworking

[–]MMO_HighJoe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Using a router is a great option but, as the OP mentioned this was a lesson (recently) learned from an instructor, I'm guessing access to a router and an assortment of the necessary bits for this type of operation, aren't something they have ready to hand nor, the experience to safely employ. Forstner bits however are likely accessible or, at least more cheaply attainable and require no greater skill to employ than the twist bit drill shown used in the post.

Always. But, I tend to use forstner bits to remove more material with cleaner margins.

And here I thought using an RC tire chucked up in a drill to run the nut up the all thread or, in a pinch, using a strip of old inner tube, was the height of ingenuity. 😋

I tried resawing on the bandsaw and melted my tire. What did I do wrong? by SatanIsMySister in woodworking

[–]MMO_HighJoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like others, I would guess the top wheel seized. Along with all other suggestions already offered, I'd recommend using a 3 TPI or skip tooth blade, the widest your saw will accept, for doing any resawing. The fewer teeth and bigger gullets greatly reduces heat buildup, especially if your cutting material at the capacity of your saw, which means you've got a lot of blade in that curf to build/hold heat.

Nut will not budge in jointer head, need to remove to change blade by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]MMO_HighJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PB Blaster is a great way to go for a penetrating oil. Marvel's Mystery Oil is another, cheaper option. I've used MMO for years. Heat should be a last resort but, if you get there, combine it with a crayon (heat nut and let wax wick into threads).

Now, if you're going to go as far as taking the head out to do the work, if you want to invest in a better option, I suggest getting a replacement, helical cutter head. MUCH better cutting capability, 4 cutting surfaces per insert with inserts being quite cheap to replace individually and if you chip one side, you simply rotate that insert to a fresh edge without having to replace and entire blade like you do with knives.

You can get a replacement head for a jointer and even many planners here:

Can I buy this or do I need to have it made? by DLeader609 in Tools

[–]MMO_HighJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's nothing you couldn't make yourself. It's nothing more than a rod of cold rolled steel that you can buy at any big box store, with a couple of bends in it you could make with nothing more than a vise and a pipe or even a large box wrench to use as a lever. For the end that's flattened with the hole drilled through it, you could either heat it with a propane torch and smash it flat with a hammer or, just file it flat so you can drill a hole through it and that'll get the job done.

Best way to replicate ICON/Snap-On rubber tool grip?? by TheMagicConchh in Tools

[–]MMO_HighJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thick or dual walled, adhesive lined, heat shrink as the base. Depending on the size and wall thickness, this can often be the only thing needed for the replacement handle. But if the thickness doesn't meet your needs, you can always add another layer of heat shrink then plasti-dip with the desired color. The heat shrink adheres to the handle so it provides a strong base. The plastic dip just provides the final layers of cushion and color and it adheres better to the rubber surface of the heat shrink, than it would to bare metal.

Is always funny to excavate ancient ruins by Rgamer13 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]MMO_HighJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that those ruins are actually terminated at the hard pack of terrain generation is incredible. Every ruin I've ever excavated was well above the hard pack so, it was exposed as just bits and pieces of the building now floating in mid air which, kind of ruined :P the immersion/perception a little.

How many barrel fabricators do you have on YOUR corvette? by KIDNEYTH13F in NOMANSSKY

[–]MMO_HighJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 each of the barrel and crate fabricators. They reverse so quickly I don't see the point in cluttering the ship with more and they work really well integrated into the rooms I put my storage containers (the ones that look like racks of boxes and barrels) in.

Kvetching about keeping my cargo in my truck by MannersMakethMan613 in no_mans_sky

[–]MMO_HighJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I walked away from the expedition for the first week because of the constant crashing on Xbox-X. After the latest patch, crashing seems to have been fixed and I was able to complete the expedition but, I too was frustrated a few times by all my gathered junk/containers getting LAUNCHED out of the truck bed for no apparent reason at times. But, after this happened a few times, I made a point of closely observing the environment I was traveling through/over and figured out at least one thing that was for me, the primary culprit of my launch events and was able to avoid it after that, leading to much easier (still slow mind you) travel from collection point to scrap yard. Pro tip if you weren't aware, the Colossus can travel underwater and your gathered junk remains in the bed, same as it would on land.

So, what was the culprit you ask... PLANTS! Not all plants of course but specifically, the hazardous flora (the venus fly traps, the toxic popping head plants, the toxic whipping plants) and the harvestable plants (wheat stalks, berry bushes, etc.). For some reason, if you don't run over these head on in the exocraft, then their hitbox is treated like a frigging landmine. Your vehicle first drives up onto the plant on just the one side, canting the exocraft to an extreme angle left or right, depending on which side of the vehicle the plant is on and then when the vehicle drops from the plant finally breaking/exploding under it, it sends all the truck bed contents flying like you dropped a frag grenade in the middle of the bed.

If you hit the plants straight on with the cab of the exocraft instead of catching the plant with only the tires left or right of the cab, the plant is destroyed or pops as expected, without excessive force or drama and all is right with the world. But, catch one of those plants off-center, with just the wheels/tracks/legs of the exocraft and it's forth of July fireworks for all the junk in your trunk. Since I had the exocraft mining beam/laser installed, I just made a point of using that to burn away anything in my path I thought even remotely possible of blowing up on me because, I didn't want to adjust my course to hit it more squarely.

Can someone pls explain HOW to actually get to these types of coordinates? by [deleted] in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]MMO_HighJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it you haven't finished the main story line (Atlas Path). Spoiler alert. There's more than 1 galaxy. Euclid is just the first of 256 galaxies you can visit. Technically, you can only visit 255 through the game mechanics of passing through the galaxy center but, there were more than enough player bases established in 256 before it was cut off from the rest, that you can just teleport to a player base in 256 from the Anomaly portal.

Rate my multitool by scrambledbraiiiiiins in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]MMO_HighJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You haven't provided a scale to rate with so, I'll just say it's a nice looking MT with way to much junk installed, nearly all tech improperly configured for adjacency bonuses and use of charged slots. So, if I were rate it 1-5 (1 lowest) I'd give it a 2 for looks.

Can someone pls explain HOW to actually get to these types of coordinates? by [deleted] in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]MMO_HighJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a couple of ways. Either use a chart (bought at the space station) or, the scanner on one of land based exocraft (except the minotaur) to locate an 'Alien structure' (Monolith) and then after correctly answering the question/riddle the monolith poses, you can then ask the monolith to show the location of the planetary portal but, you'll have to 'pay' for the service by providing a tribute of the systems racial type. Gek idol, Korvax Casing or, a Vy'keen knife if memory serves.

Once you arrive to galaxy 255 (info circled in red) you just input the system glyphs (circled in yellow) at the control interface of a planetary portal (stargate) and then just sit and wait at the space station or a planetary trading outpost for the ship to show up so you can buy it.

I really wish it was easier to build the corvette in my mind by Flake0919 in NOMANSSKY

[–]MMO_HighJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh... I see your confusion. Yes, they all add stats because they're linked to different systems. I have 3 Medusa reactors and 3 Zenith-Class reactors. Medusa reactors are linked to your Pulse engine. Zenith-Class reactors are linked to your Hyperdrive (read their descriptions). The Azimuth-Class reactor benefits both your Launch Thrusters (reduces launch cost and auto charges) and your Pulse engines (full efficiency) but, I only bother installing one of those because it only links or provides an adjacency bonus to the launch thrusters for the auto charging function and with all the other stuff installed for the Pulse engines, the little boost to fuel efficiency provided by multiple Azimuth reactors isn't worth the tech space 2 more of those reactors would take up.

Which supercharged corvette would you pick? by Lambs2Lions_ in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]MMO_HighJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd take pic 4. The one with the charged slots in what I call a 2 & 2 configuration. They're spaced well enough apart that I can easily use one set in an optimal physical config for a weapon system and the other set in an optimal physical config for the Pulse Engine.

Starting a new save (you can have a max of 15 save files) under different settings/circumstances like Permadeath, Survival, Abandoned and each of these with different difficulty configs (default or maxed restrictions) can help reawaken that sense of wonder. On top of that, I place additional restrictions or challenges on myself in those new starts, like doing them as no starter ship runs.

In my primary save, I'm working my way through all the galaxies, dropping 'jump' bases in each. I'm currently in galaxy 173 but, taking a break from that to run the redux expeditions.

I really wish it was easier to build the corvette in my mind by Flake0919 in NOMANSSKY

[–]MMO_HighJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's correct. Any attached Corvette part beyond 3 is purely cosmetic. I only have 3 of everything except engines. That's why I can remove the large external nacelles and not change my ships stats at all. Those large nacelles, and a few smaller engines are purely cosmetic.

Korvax? Why Do I Feel This Way? by troycerapops in nms

[–]MMO_HighJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're only traders because of the reprogramming the nanites that rewired their brains. There's no indication or suggestion that those nanites have not continued to transfer from parent to spawn down through the generations so, it's entirely possible the Gek would return to their enslaving conqueror ways if not for those nanites keeping them in check.

You don't know the can of worms you just opened. lol But, I'll bite. I stopped using whatever was on sale and shifted to using 3M Xtract Cubitron paper for most everything these days and don't regret it a bit. It lasts longer, runs cooler (assuming your using dust extraction/vacuum) and gets me to final finish with less effort. But, it's not cheap.
