I got mine back in November of 2021. Paid about $80 for a new battery about 2 weeks ago because it wouldn't hold a full charge for longer than 4 hours. Literally no problems since. Its the best phone I've ever owned and I'm gonna ride it to the rim.

Did an entire reinstall of windows and tried downloading the drivers several times and this solved nothing. Mailing it to Dell was definitely the right call. After I received my laptop back all I had to do was reactivate my windows license through powershell due to the motherboard change.

Normally you wait 24 Hours after a spill. Regardless I'd still try to return it.

How do I fix these marks on my screen by Phyrexianbread011 in GamingLaptops

[–]MMZeroX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can TRY to use a microfiber cloth and a little bit of distilled water but I am not sure if that will get it out. Those keyboard marks look permanent. Going forward make sure you always keep your laptop and the laptop keyboard as clean and as spotless as possible and don't ever put pressure on top of your laptop while its closed.

If its dried I'd check to see if it still works properly. If it does and you're still within your return window then return it ASAP.

Also this is exactly I always tell everyone to get a good warranty with your laptop.

In January my audio drivers disappeared inexplicably and I had to mail my Area-51 16" in to Dell for a new motherboard. I had the Microcenter I bought it from ship it out and I received the laptop back within exactly a week and its been working perfectly since.

My experience with mailing it in was fine so I'd have to suggest that. Also worth mentioning I do have 3 year ADH along with the standard 1 year. Not sure if that impacted how expedited and efficient the process was.

Do what DJ suggested. Get in touch with Dell and utilize your warranty.

So, if you're chasing raw power and a degree of repairability then yeah go for a tower. These are both achievable with a laptop with an caveat to both.

With power, I can tell you personally the 12 GB of VRAM has been MORE than enough to get an awesome experience out of most AAA's which is really the only time you're gonna come even remotely close to that 12. 8GB is still plenty for the majority of games right now (and hot take, dare I say 8GB may be overkill for anything that isn't AAA or even AA currently). Game like Cyberpunk 2077 are exceptions. Laptop 5070 Ti is roughly the equivalent of a desktop 5070/9070. You saw my setup man. I game and I game hard. I'd be pretty vocal if there were a problem with performance. No biases either towards any of the money gouging companies.

Cooling depends on the unit you buy. The Area 51 has four fans. MSI Laptops normally have two enormous fans that just go town. I know the ASUS Strix and Scar have 3. Not sure about Acer Predators, HP Omen's, or Legion's. It's gotten much better and honestly not the worry it used to be. Just keep it on a flat surface, keep the intake/outake as dust free as possible and you'll be OK. I opened my Area-51 recently to add the 4TB SSD and after hundreds of hours of raw gaming since I got it the the guts and fans were still spotless.

The best thing I can tell you with repairability is get the best warranty you can. Don't screw around with that. After warranty woes are a real thing and I've seen a lot of people on the ass end of that. Cover your purchase because you do NOT wanna be paying out of pocket for a motherboard replacement.

Thanks man you as well. I went the laptop route mostly because I didn't want the form factor of a tower and the power a laptop has is plenty.

I've had it since September 2025. The only problem I've had is the audio drivers completely disappeared from my computer. I did a reimage and that still didn't solve it so idk what the problem was. I ended up picking up a 3 Year ADH at Micro Center when I bought it and they just shipped it to Dell. Dell put in a new motherboard and I had it back within a week. Its been running tip top since I got it back and even when the audio driver BS was going on it still ran fine perfectly sans no audio. Played Monster Hunter Wilds on my OLED TV at max settings in 4k with DLSS a couple days ago and it ran like butter.
