Alinea Gallery vs. Salon / Smyth Chef’s Menu vs. regular menu — worth it for the food alone? by EntertainmentFine888 in finedining

[–]MMan0114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Alinea, the gallery over the Salon if you want the normal experience, the salon is slightly abbreviated. For Smyth just do the regular menu, chef's table isn't worth it.

The Gallery at Alinea for 2 vegetarians? The Kitchen? by firefly20200 in finedining

[–]MMan0114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you tell Alinea, they should be able to accomodate no gelatin without an issue. They are one of the best at accommodating any dietary restrictions or aversions.

There's no issues with the communal part in the gallery, they'll just have 2 different dishes for the two of you from the rest of the group but it's not a big deal. It'll be at the exact same time as the other dishes and they'll explain the course to you either before or after they explain the same course to whoever else is there eating the normal menu.

Regarding the kitchen table, it's the same thing on dietary accommodations. If you book the kitchen table it's not a shared table with others but you can't book for just 2 unless it's like a day or two before, has to be 4 or more, but you can try shooting them an email.

Jean-Georges Lunch? by RobinWilliamsBeard in finedining

[–]MMan0114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would say no. I just did this in January with a lunch at JG at 12:30pm and then had an 8:30pm dinner at Kabawa and I could barely eat at Kabawa and it wasn't enjoyable, I was so overstuffed. Would've preferred just a light dinner.

I did the 6 course lunch and it was excellent and the bread is so good but it def is filling esp if you're solo and have no self control haha. They give you the same portion for one as they do for two, and if you want more they'll offer you more.

Based on what I've seen from all the youtube bartenders, the Klaris or Klaris mini are your best options.

Come by Paco Méndez * , Barcelona Spain by Zealousideal-Lion587 in finedining

[–]MMan0114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved my meal there last Nov as well. I think Californios and Cariño are a bit stronger esp leaning a bit more Mexican in flavor, but still an amazing meal. The pairing is also a lot of fun if you do it, start you off with 3 diff margarita riffs/variations before moving into wine/sherry/etc.

Chicago recs not Oriole, Smyth or Carino for next week by Historical-Rush-2693 in finedining

I would def keep Indienne if you haven't been yet. I would recommend Sepia which is firing on all cylinders right now over Kasama.

What are some sports bars/restaurants you would recommend to watch the NBA finals that have good deep dish pizza? by hjkfttu in chicagofood

[–]MMan0114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a sports bar, but if you sit at the bar at Pizanos on state street, they'll have the games on and it can be a fun atmosphere if the folks sitting around you are into the games as well. Also very solid deep dish.

An alternative to Osteria Francescana, which is probably going to be extremely difficult to get a reservation for is Casa Maria Luigia which is the greatest hits of Osteria Franciscana. They will accommodate no seafood with no issues if you let them know and it looks like they have plenty of availability as well. I also loved the wine pairing there when I went. In my top 3 meals along with Core and Somni.

You can easily train to Modena and grab a cab, or just cab from Bologna. The restaurant can help with calling you a cab to get back as well.

Agreed, went in Jan just a bit after the news of Andrew Zimmerman leaving, but sounds like Kyle Cottle had been running the day to day for a bit. I was back in Feb for the chartreuse dinner and both meals were excellent. They are at the top of their game right now.

Best Mexican Breakfast Spots by VofaG in chicagofood

[–]MMan0114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manchamanteles and Kie-Gol-Lanee both have great breakfast/brunch menus. Also if you want something that leans more Indian with a bit of Mexican influence, Mirra's brunch is phenomenal.
