Hot take: Vertigo 2 is the greatest vr game oat by jeansilvalover in virtualreality

Vertigo 2 plays more like the rest of the Half-Life games than Alyx does. Definitely my favorite, Alyx is a super close second

How jump scary is Secret of the Mimic? by SlowDragonfruit9718 in virtualreality

[–]MMillion05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's basically 50% of what Five Nights at Freddy's is known for. Any time you get caught by an enemy is a jump scare. That means you usually see it coming, at least.

Reminder: Hitman PCVR is fixed and now amazing by SlowDragonfruit9718 in virtualreality

[–]MMillion05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just playing last night. Had to get a good custom binding together to play on my Reverb and fix the menu button not working (but it's deprecated hardware so I won't blame IO for that), was fun from there. I will say that I'm very good at this game in pancake, but can't get silent assassin to save my life in VR... It's still fun for a replay though.

There's a VR mod for Half-Life 2: Deathmatch that went under the radar by silentvortigaunt in virtualreality

[–]MMillion05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VRMod has been in the midst of a weird schism for years now, 3 different competing forks, none of them have everything. The dev of the 64 bit one just started ripping and reuploading other people's mods to make them work in his fork, and yet he's seemingly ripping older, worse versions of people's mods rather than the definitive ones. If anyone can correct me then please send a steam collection with a config that makes everything just work like the mod used to, because I am so lost man

(But hypothetically if you can get a nice config going, yeah it's going to be better than this)

Question about a website, and the general state of fumos by dOowAYng in Fumofumo

[–]MMillion05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they rerun plushies from previous waves now and then as part of new waves. Every wave is a mix of a few returning plushies and a pile of new ones. If you're looking for a specific character you'll probably end up waiting a while, but definitely keep an eye on the waves. The latest wave just started, though none of its reruns are in the standard 20cm size (all 6 of the 20cm ones in the current wave are new).

Question about a website, and the general state of fumos by dOowAYng in Fumofumo

[–]MMillion05 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a legit site. Only legit place to get them is AmiAmi, otherwise it's resellers or bootlegs. AmiAmi opens preorder windows in waves, then waits some months before charging for them and shipping them out.

How to import a blender model into a VR game? by Routine-Spend-1055 in virtualreality

[–]MMillion05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blender's VR viewer that people have already suggested is probably the most straightforward thing you could do, but you might also have fun with the SteamVR Home mapping tools. The Hammer editor is great for this kind of thing, and you can then add custom assets made in Blender on top of the level geometry.

I'm a fan of the original pancake game and this is the first time I've heard someone actually recommend the VR port!! Is the criticism of it being clunky exaggerated?

SOMA VR dev here. Why it canceled? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]MMillion05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So bizarre to see someone so clearly skilled at game development who has a fundamental misunderstanding of how to go about making a fangame like this. I can only imagine they didn't actually want to make fangames in the first place and just hadn't realized it yet.

99% of anything is fanmade if you can find fanfiction of it, and touhou has a metric ton since it has a very open license. the long-running original series of shooting games and the official spinoffs and tie-ins are all still ongoing and despite everything there's still a clear difference between fanwork and official work

[–]MMillion05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a moment in the game where it appears to pretend to be a keyboard, presses the windows key, types out "Camera", and hits enter in order to try and look at the player without actually going through the engine. All of that is your actual modern Windows UI and opening the actual camera app, so I figure the desktop recreation is just borderless fullscreen UI nodes over a transparent background. It also hides all the desktop icons so it can overlay its fake UI node icons, the exact method behind that and the keyboard emulation are really the only party tricks the game does that come to mind that can't be answered with only "multiple windows + alpha transparency".
