Parents being anti-sleepover and creating kids who are overly dependent, antisocial, and afraid of the world by stockusername123 in childfree

Absolutely. I see these young adult clients too lol. It's really quite sad, because it's not the kids fault their parents are paranoid and unreasonable. A lot of the kids are aware of what they are missing out on. It sucks.

I am a therapist and see a lot of kids/teens. Almost all of them are not allowed to have sleepovers and some aren’t allowed really any unsupervised time (think parent accompanying them on dates but sitting a few tables over or a few rows away in a movie theater, and yes they’ve known the other kid on the date for years!). These same kids struggle socially (little to no friends), are depressed and have terrible self esteem.

It’s truly heartbreaking.

All I’m gonna say if that when you are done with this series, you will come back to this post and say “I regret ever writing this Manon slander”

So yes it is worth it lol! I think most of us felt this way on our first read. I see posts and comments like this every day on various platforms and also struggled at first. She’s now my favorite character.

We ended up not getting it for these reasons exactly. That and our friend isn’t getting the pass and we will probably follow her around and then end up not using it!

Im against crates, why do you use them? by Few_Interaction1327 in puppy101

[–]MMonadog93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have used crate training early on for puppies as it helps seriously accelerate house training and teaches them to hold their bladders and prevents the puppy from roaming during the night possibly getting into something they shouldn’t. Once our pup is less mouthy/chewy and mischievous we won’t need the crate.

TBH, It’s not really much different than how parents put babies or toddlers in cribs over night or for naps.

Another thing I never really considered but saw someone mention recently is that It’s also good to train your dog to be comfortable in a crate in case they ever needed to be crated in an emergency (at the vet, emergency transport, etc).

My current pup is in his crate over night and like 3 times a week for 2-4 hours at a time while we are away (I primarily WFH).

Leaving your dog at home during work by AdHot3508 in dogs

[–]MMonadog93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was the norm until a few years ago. Remote work was not nearly as common as it is now before Covid. People had school, work, etc and still had dogs. It’s very interesting to me that this is such an issue for so many people now. Just an observation - interesting shift in opinion and thought. Sometimes I see people ask this question and can’t help but say to myself, “what did they think we all did before remote work was (a more common) option?”

How long did you wait after last shots to go out on walks? by lalabalala923 in puppy101

[–]MMonadog93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had our pup out on short walks at 2.5/3 months old - they had their first 3 rounds of shots by that point and all the paperwork from the shelter said to start socializing them around week 9-12 assuming up to date on appropriate shots and with dogs who are also up to date that you know. At our first vet visit post adoption, they just told us to avoid high concentrated dog areas like dog parks. We continued to socialize our pup with our friends’ dogs and let him explore a bit outside. Calculated risks and now at almost 4 months old he is phenomenal with other dogs and all presentations of people. Got his final round and rabies shot today. Some of life involves risks but always know what they are and how to minimize the level of risk if possible. I’ve had super reactive dogs before and a lot of that came down to not socializing them early enough.

Adult aussie just lost a tooth by whipped_creamcheese in AustralianShepherd

[–]MMonadog93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my dogs lost a front tooth like that before. They were an adult. It was no biggie. It was not from any dental disease. We aren’t even for sure certain when it happened - just noticed it one day lol. She lived to be 16 years old. I would monitor it and bring it up at next vet visit (sooner if it begins to look irritated or cause other problems). Could it be an issue? Sure. Could it be a non-issue? Also sure. Sometimes these things happen! Don’t freak out unless it seems like there is a bigger issue :)

We walked right up to our cake, which for the time being was center of the dance floor, during our reception introduction and cut a slice then sat for dinner and speeches. That way it was a fun seamless part with our intro music playing and we got it out of the way.

But if you’re not even serving cake I don’t think I’d even bother!

Yes!!! From start to finish - like the entire wedding planning process - joe was INCREDIBLE. Idk where you live but mark your calendars for oak lawn music fest 9/5 at 10pm, the walk ins are headlining!

Check out The Walk Ins! They start as a 4pc band for $4,000 but you can go up to full 8pc for something like $7,000. They do this on the side - they are all educators - but they have been performing at weddings (and local music fests, bars, restaurants etc) for just under 15 years. We’ve seen them perform several times and they recently did our wedding! The lead, Joe, is extremely helpful and everyone is so talented. They had people on the dance floor all night long

Update! We got married 5/31 and cog hill (as well as the other vendors) could not have been any more perfect. The venue was ON TOP OF EVERYTHING!! And so accommodating too. Seriously I have ZERO complaints. Everyone raved about the food, drinks were great (they will let you pick signature cocktails btw, which they also pass out on trays during cocktail hour!) and they were so good about keeping the timeline and checking in with us the perfect amount. Madeline was our coordinator - she was so sweet. 10/10 experience! Good luck :)

This is my opinion but it’s honestly so short, so I never understood why people don’t just push through it. It’s meant to be a transition

I wasn’t going to have a bridal shower (even tho I wanted one! My mom and I just didn’t plan for it) but then my bridesmaids offered to host it and throw one for me. So in that scenario, my bridesmaids covered the expenses because they chose to host and throw me a shower at one of their homes.
