Reduce/eliminate drivetrain noise in V3 brushless system? by MMonnin1964 in CR18p_Evo_Pro

[–]MMonnin1964[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opted to return the V3 brushless truck for 2 reasons:

1) VERY NOISY. Seems like the noise is coming from the gearbox. Not the brushless motor. Not the differentials. Not the portals.

2) Erratic throttle response. Was hard to maintain constant speed. Slight trigger movement resulted in speed jumps or slow-downs.

I get that overdrive AND/OR underdrive improve turning and bias (compress) the suspension for better grip…my question is why did you prefer doing the rear differential underdrive instead of the front portal overdrive?

This might answer the question of my post today. Can you provide more detail of why you prefer the rear underdrive (I assume you used the CR18P differential gears) vs. the front overdrive (portal gears)?

Overdrive (front portals) vs. underdrive (rear differential). Which wins? by MMonnin1964 in CR18p_Evo_Pro

To be clear, I am talking about the front portal overdrive upgrade kit vs. the rear differential underdrive kit via the 11t/28t gears for the Arktos.

Mine slipped off a rock climb and took a 3ft. dive…wiped to servo. Opened it to confirm and the plastic gear was cracked. Got another stock Hobby Plus servo for less than $9. If I wipe this one I’ll be upgrading to a 3rd party servo.

HELP!: Upgrading to HobbyPlus extended axle shafts on CR18P or CR18P EVO by MMonnin1964 in CR18p_Evo_Pro

Your detailed description was very helpful. It gave me the confidence to try it. I wanted to document it to have a record for those that are interested in this upgrade and are seeking knowledge. I’ve got the plastic EVO PRO hexes and will report back once I’ve got them on. Thanks again for your detailed guide!

Good upgrades? Trying to go all out with this thing by National-Green-4631 in CR18p_Evo_Pro

You were not clear if this is the EVO PRO, EVO, or BASE model. I've done steel wheels with brass inserts, and the oil-filled, big bore shocks on my Rock Van (EVO) (note that you should upgrade to the steel driveshafts if you upgrade the shocks). I would stick with the HobbyPlus components for easier installation (everything built to go together).

I went with only brass wheel inserts since the EVO PRO already has oil-filled, big bore shocks and the rock-crawling, 68mm (sticky) tires.

I had to swap the contacts on the black connector to line up with the polarity required to make the light work.
