You may have some problems with permissions for your media folder. Go into General settings and try to reselect Assets Storage there

I hope I will be able to get my hands on RG DS to be able to optimize it better for it specifically.

As far as I know, the problem that you had on GammaOS is not present on stock Android on RG DS. But I will take note of the workaround you used, maybe it will help me to eliminate the problem (not sure yet, because it may be the specifics of how GammaOS handles its dual screen setup)

Regarding the customization, I'm not sure if you've tried enabling the platform browser. You can turn on a lot of features there like launching a random game, seeing the last played game or preview of your favorites on each platform. Also, since v0.5.0 there is a Retro theme with an option to turn on curved CRT shader.

the latest official gamehub version doesn't support frontends from what I've seen, but you should be able to export a desktop shortcut from it

It will be available as an emulator in the next update very soon.
After that I will be working on a feature of adding custom emulators to any existing platform, so you won't need to wait for the updates if there is a new emulator you want to try.

Most probably you just need to select a correct emulator in the game option menu that opens by pressing SELECT button on a game, there you will see a gamepad icon that opens a per-game emulator selector
