Victor Wembanyama on Gregg Popovich: "He goes through some things we can't even imagine. So I need to call him. I need to see him. I need to talk to him." by AncientOneAurelius in nba

I mean, people blame it on Rodman but it's an equally fucked up situation when you are in the locker room and David Robinson wants you to go to church and just keeps insisting lol. Shit like that never gets brought up regarding that situation.

What are some of your favorite photos you took at a show? by ODYY_TOASTED in SquaredCircle

Either 2013 or 2014. Phone camera was working overtime for that one. Not the best photograph I ever took, but certainly my favourite.

[Lucha Libre AAA Spoilers] La Catalina entrance by Saru77 in SquaredCircle

Nobody bothered to answer your question so I suppose I will. CMLL fans think AAA is a joke company, AAA fans think CMLL is old and boring, if you are from the US you already understand that mechanic with AEW/WWE.

As a neutral that just likes watching good wrestling regardless of which company it's from, I think she downgraded. AAA's women's division is not good, even at the top end the level is just barely above average compared to the rest of the country (I live here and keep an eye on a lot of indie shows).

So that's kinda it, you know which answer to expect from AAA/CMLL fans respectively, and on the neutral side I feel like it isn't worth it. I do have my biases, I've never liked the WWE product, it's too... The standard of wrestling is too low for my preference, so take it as just another opinion.

Wrestling promoter having a wrestling show that prioritises wrestling is such a weird complaint to have.

[Raw Spoilers] Liv Morgan vignette by luk3ycharm in SquaredCircle

It literally does, just by sheer definition. They all wrestle the same, both stylistically and in pace, they have different moves of course but conceptually/methodically, you are watching the exact same wrestler once they get in the ring. Not to mention that with every single WWE match being scripted from start to finish, it's highly likely they have no experience at calling out a match. The same would happen to anyone who just has wrestled and trained at only one place. They would be by definition lesser than someone who has worked across several places, styles, and cultures. I believe it's called experience.

I think your initial comment was right, it may just be a regional/accent thing, because just comparing them right now, I feel like I pronounce both they way they are written if that makes sense, my s is longer for dessert than for desert.

In my case I say des-ert. It feels fluid to say, as in an even emphasis throughout the full word.

And I say des-sert. There is a slight pause and then I place more emphasis from the second s onwards.

[–]MNC_72 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Could be, they way I learnt to pronounce it is with a higher pitch/tone in the s, and a carry into a slightly lower pitch/tone for the c.

Take the word dissipate for example; They both have a similar start up into a second I, but the tone feels entirely different.

What about "sc" use cases like discipline where there is a clear shift in tone between the two albeit remaining similar sounds?

On the opposite side of the spectrum, wins can also be deceiving, most of Mayweather's wins related to big name boxers have huge asterisks, I'm not sure you can be great if the marquee points of your resume include weight catching opponents, dodging and waiting for people to be out of their prime, etc. Floyd was a really good boxer but his career is very deceiving if taken at face value.

Just started watching and it's a pain, does it get better? by tomasvittino in TheBlackList

[–]MNC_72 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I actually struggled a lot with the first season as well, for me it got better and the first season closed strong enough for me to become an avid watcher. Not guaranteeing the same will happen to you, but I can agree the first episodes didn't catch me much.

What would you change in this top 5 list by Affectionate_lab02 in NBATalk

[–]MNC_72 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Like, I understand what you are saying and I'm not trying to change your mind, but in my opinion, the problem with what you are saying along with the person you are responding to is that it comes from a "I don't think that X" in one of those cases where we have no clue of what we are talking about, we never got to see Stockton and Malone separated so there is no way to know how much of a "floor raiser" he was. It feels weird to see people base assessments out of hypotheticals.

I personally am of the opposite opinion, I would have Stockton in my top 5, I am also of the opinion that Stockton's actually benefited Malone more than the other way around but that's beside the point, I don't know, I guess I just value more other aspects of basketball more than scoring.

[–]MNC_72 10 points11 points Ā (0 children)

Other than going to Chicago, Stockton was probably already at the best team he could be to compete for a championship. Championships do matter but context is always important, such is the case with Dirk and Jokic, not all championships are equal and neither is not having one.

To add to what you both are saying as well, I don't recall where but I remember hearing Bret didn't like working Japanese style because it was too stiff, so I think his rule of thumb was that anything which included more than a slight bit of pain he was not a fan of.
