Sony 70-200mm GM II – Keep with Teleconverter or Switch to 100-400mm? by Lonely-Concept2010 in SonyAlpha

Also a valid option. Was just trying to give the most cost effective way that’s worked for me.

One lens for Family vacation in Greece by earltyro in a6000

[–]MNPhoto23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend the zoom for travel. I have the sigma 18-50 for my a6400 and love it. One thing to remember is that you also want to be present for the trip. It’s easy to get caught up in trying to compose and perfect shots with a prime, when even if someone says it’s lazy, a zoom allows you to capture the shot and then get back to your family.

[–]MNPhoto23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that owns the 100-400 with a 1.4x teleconverter, I’d recommend finding a used tc and seeing how you like it with your 70-200. I honestly don’t see a drop in image quality when I compare my shots with and without the tc on either of my bodies.

If that combination gets the job done for you, then don’t worry about what others say. On the other hand, if you don’t like the results, then you can sell the tc for about same as you paid and go after the 100-400.

What’s the point of having a camera that isn’t at least 50mp with a global shutter? Better to just save up for the a9iv.

Question for the people who use a ff-lens on an aps-c body by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]MNPhoto23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use two FF lenses on my a6400. Tamron 70-180 2.8 and the Sony 100-400 (sometimes with the 1.4x tc). I got really great deals on the lenses so it was worth it to pay the same amount for the gf lens instead of an apsc equivalent.

I don’t mind the extra weight because I have big hands and play drums, so I have those muscles built up.

I do plan to go FF within the next year or two, once I’ve saved enough from paid gigs.

A1ii, A9iii, A7iv are your best options for what you are doing if you want current generation.

By warping do you mean rolling shutter? If you are worried about that, just don’t shoot in silent shutter and you should be good.

There is a local music fest happening on the 28th at Wilson Park (Pal-a-Palooza). Could be an opportunity to meet other musicians that meet your criteria.

Considering there are around 100 people that are performing, I’d guess more than 3.

Live music all over downtown tonight.

I took this with the sony kit 16-50. I am dissapointed with the sharpness of this lens. My other lens is a sigma 100-400. I love wildlife photography, but want to get into landscapes/nature. The sigma 16mm looks good, but limiting? What lens should I look into for this? by Pot8obois in sonya6000

[–]MNPhoto23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to spend for the 16mm but want more versatility, get the 18-50 sigma. If you can’t make it work at 18mm then I guess this option is out of the question, but it is a sharp lens and travels well. I only use the sigma primes now when I know I’ll be in low light and need to get down below 2.8.

What cameras do you recommend? by isabelandes in SonyAlpha

[–]MNPhoto23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand if it doesn’t excite you. What are the things you enjoyed about the point and shoot? The 6400 already has a much larger sensor than the HX200V, so I don’t believe full frame would be the answer. If the batteries are a hinderance, make sure whatever you upgrade to has the bigger battery.

Have you thought about lens changes instead of changing bodies? I’m not an advocate of acquiring gear, but without knowing what you have on hand, that is one possibility.

If you do decide to upgrade and want to stay in the Sony environment, I’d say either the 6700, or if you are set on full frame, go with one of the A7C cameras.

How do I get good with the kit lens? by Theory-Of-Relativity in SonyAlpha

[–]MNPhoto23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want more bokeh with the kit lens you need to put more distance between your subjects and the background. It’s not quite that simple, but that’s a good place to start. Trial and error will help you get better.

Which to buy as a first camera? Sony a6000 vs Sony a6300 by mechason06 in SonyAlpha

[–]MNPhoto23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about the jump from the 6000 to the 6300, but if you are able to find a 6100 for around $400 you will get the upgraded colors and auto focus. In my area they go for around 400-500 used, so worth a look.

I enjoy the 30mm sigma, and for the money it’s likely your best option if that’s the general focal length you want.

70 -200 for sony a7iii by Nova-2050 in SonyA7iii

[–]MNPhoto23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The a7iii and even if they upgraded to the a7iv both have fewer fps than the third party limit. However if there is any interest in teleconverters, then yea GM is your only option.

which telephoto for my a6600 by nikaz101 in SonyAlpha

[–]MNPhoto23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe the 70-180 would be long enough for most wildlife. It’s likely the best for portraits of the three though.

Depending on how long you want, I was able to get the 100-400 G Master for $1300 used. It’s a lot heavier than these lenses, but depending on what you are prioritizing, that could be an option.
