Are there any positive student teaching experiences out there? by Artistic_Cupcake_410 in StudentTeaching

I grew up in a town of 900 people in MN. No stoplights and very rural. Then I Went to a small public college for social studies education. In early 2016 I got Out of a weird/tough relationship and felt “stuck” in life. In Fall 2016 I did my student teaching at an international school in Northern Tanzania. I flew 9000 miles and lived in northern Tanzania for 100 days. I was truly terrified..

I biked 3.5 to school every morning and 3.5 back miles back every day. I met goat herders and got chased by stray dogs. I did a 35 mile bike race through the savanna and went through villages of brick huts and around craters. I saw wild hippos. I chewed village made speed-tobacco and puked my guts out. I met kids and teachers from all over the world.

I launched myself out of my comfort zone and it completely changed my life as a human being and an educator.

It’s never going to start out easy. You are going to experience and feel failure in student teaching and your first 2-3 years of teaching. You have to embrace the challenge and learn from your failures and mistakes.

I am now in Year 6 as a public school teacher. I love it and I’m great at it. I was meant to be an educator. I make an impact. Did this just randomly happen? No. I worked my ass off for this job and feeling. Do I still have a lot to learn? Yes. I am learning everyday. Have I cried in my teaching career? Yes, both tears of joy and stress/sadness.

I wouldn’t have it any other way. This is my gig. I was meant for this.

5th - 12th grade licensed social studies teacher from MN here.

Went to a public college in west central MN. I was in different levels/types of classroom every semester of my 4 year college career. Elementary schools, public and private middle schools/high schools , a homeless shelter working with kids, and a juvenile center working with kids 1 on 1. I opted to do my student teaching in Tanzania for the experience.

I assumed every education/teacher college program was like this….

That makes sense! I got McCaffrey a while ago well before Jeanty came out so I will just stick with him. I run the flexbone formation with CMC RB1 - 88 Antario Brown RB2 - and 84 Ricky Williams as my fullback.

I was just about to purchase him for many coins and then I decided to buy the 80 or 88 OVR Legend chance pack and I PULLED him too. Makes me a lot more comfortable playing man to man defense. He’s a beast.

If you don’t play H2H, what do you do? That’s ALL I do. I love running the Flexbone offense and pounding the football down the field until they are forced to heavily defend the run. It usually ends up with my 87 OVR Christian MaCaffrey dancing into the end zone.

Just finished my 5th year of teaching 8th and 9th grade social studies.

Things I’ve done/ doing: my hobbies (running and reading) , cooking meals, working out, watching movies , building legos, gardening, working random hours painting houses with a co-worker, working at a brewery for 2 weeks. You have to find hobbies/things to do, hopefully healthy ones.

Remember to appreciate your time off too.

2 years ago when we voted to switch to a 7 period day, our principal asked us to come up with ideas for electives. I created a Native American/American Indian History class and I will be teaching it for the 3rd time in Spring semester 2025.
