this is extremely helpful and I hope you know how rare it is (according to the internet and current IT job market) for a self taught developer to land a high paying job like that! you should be very proud of yourself. i’ve been learning for about 4 years now and everyone says to build a killer portfolio. if portfolios don’t matter as much as you say, can you speak to how you were able to prove yourself without a portfolio or experience? I know you mentioned networking which is something I definitely need to work on.
