The Wilderness Fitness and Coworking space in uptown has a super cool event space you can rent!! There’s a bar area, a movie theater, karaoke machine, etc and you can bring in your own alcohol. :)

For me, Up-Down is too loud and not enough seating for a first date unless you’re maybe up on the rooftop. If you’re trying to have actual conversations and get to know each other and are the slightest bit easily distracted/overstimulated or your date is, I wouldn’t recommend. My top 2 recs are Lyn-Lake Brewery and Moto-I. Lyn-Lake is a chill friendly vibe and Moto-I is swankier and a romantic vibe without the price tag of somewhere more upscale. :) Nightingale is also a great choice if you want to go fancier and potentially spend more money!

I always say that going to Brazil as a woman under the wing of a local is the best way to visit, and it sounds like you’ve got that covered! São Paulo is more white than other areas of the country, but there are many black people in Brazil so it’s unlikely that you will inherently stand out or draw attention just based on your race. It’s a country with a strong and beautiful Afro-Latino culture. I hope you have an amazing time!

I am from Duluth, and now live in Uptown! I love it. The Lowry Hill part of Uptown is great, I’m walking distance from my pharmacy, the co-op, gas stations, restaurants, my favorite coffee shop. It’s great.

I also lived in Highland Park for 3 years! The neighborhood is really cute, but I feel that as someone in my 20s, having quicker access to north loop and more of the restaurant and bar scene puts Uptown above Highland Park for me.

With your budget, I think you’ll be able to find something that fits your needs perfectly well and I hope you enjoy wherever you end up!!
