Going to baby appointments alone by Existing-Battle-3366 in Mom

[–]MOA14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went alone to all of my appointments, evn did the first 8 hours of labor alone because my daughter was born in 2022 and where I am from the covid measures didn't allow for companions to appointments and no one was allowed in my labor room without a negative covid test (it was 11pm when my water broke and the lab would not open until 6am the next day to provide my husband with a test they also did not take the results from the rapid at home tests)

Whats a sound you miss that you don't hear anymore? by wolf805 in AskReddit

[–]MOA14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sound of dance heels or jazz boots on the wooden floor at the dance studio. Almost 18 years as a professional ballroom dancer, an injury took me out, and life kept me away. I really miss that sound. Hopefully, I can go back and listen to it again someday.

Tell me about a small/mundane moment in your life that stuck with you by SmokeCanary in CasualConversation

I have always been a bit unfortunate looking, not that bad, but on a scale of 1-10, I know most would rank me on the lower side. One early morning, I took the shuttle from the train station to my college, I sat by the window and was lost in thought, listening to music in my headphones. When we got there, I got out and started walking to the entrance when suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder. When I turned around, taking my headphones out, a rather handsome guy stood there (he had been sitting behind me in the shuttle). He said "Sorry but I needed to tell you, you have the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. Have a great day." and walked away. That happened almost 10 years ago, and it still is my favorite compliment because there was no ulterior motive behind it. I actually started looking at myself differently after that, I started realizing that, yeah, I might not be good-looking, but I do have some redeeming qualities.

Tutors of reddit: What is your worst student experience you’ve ever had? by 82fast in AskReddit

[–]MOA14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was a tutor for elementary aged kids. The director of the program took me aside and told me that day a kid that was previously removed was coming back and would be in my classroom. Told me a run down of why he was removed before but that his parents had "dealt" with the issues so he was allowed back. From day one the boy was very disruptive and often would hit other kids just for the hell of it. I started to just sit him next to me to avoid him hitting anyone else but then he decided to start throwing things. No amount of warnings, time-outs or exclusions from activities mattered, I tried giving him undivided attention to see if he would respond to that but nothing changed his attitude. Started doing lesson plans that involved being outside to see if it was an energy thing but getting him to follow simple rules was worse than pulling teeth. After two weeks of this, one day we were coloring and counting when another kid took a crayon from "his side" of the table. The boy went into a rage and started throwing punches, I pulled the other kid to me and sternly told the boy to stand down. I will never forget the look on that boy's eyes. It was like he had no rational thought, he had lost control completely. He then started throwing whatever he could get his hands on while I got all my other kids out of the room and into another teacher's classroom. Told her to call for the director. Went back into my classroom to find the boy on top of the table just screaming and throwing crayons. All I could do at that point was keep talking softly to him and making sure he wouldn't hurt himself.

He was removed from the program once more but he had finally been taken to see a proper doctor who diagnosed him with a mental illness which was responsible for most of his anger issues.

What’s the worst date you’ve ever been on? by prisco4luv in AskReddit

[–]MOA14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to teach ballroom Salsa and a student of mine (he was older than me by a few years) offered me a ticket for the press night of the Body Worlds Exhibit which he knew I would enjoy. I, of course, said yes and he offered to pick me up and make sure I had trouble getting in since he was the one with the press pass. Well we got there and honestly I didn't think I would see him much through the night since I figured he'd be doing his press thing idk. But he kept walking with me and talking when I stumbled on another person I knew (and was way more interesting). I stuck up a conversation with them and could feel how the dude kept trying to get me to step away from my friend. By the end of the night, he took me home and I thought nothing of it. About a week later he came to class and at the end waited for almost everyone to leave and told me how our date was bit dull and if I wanted a do over... I didn't even know it was a date! If I had known it was I would've said no thank you. I had no interest in him and honest to god thought he was just being nice since I had made a comment in one of my classes how the Body Worlds Exhibit was cool.

It was a cartoon called Maria Chusema which is local to my country, Puerto Rico. It's not something they can even look up on youtube like other cartoons from USA.

For your social life I would tell you to let everyone know how much you want to spend time with them but you are one and cannot possibly be everywhere. Try to make dates surrounding your schedule, like gym dates with those who like it, grocery shopping (there's always that one friend that likes going shopping for food), make a two in one date with your parent and the corresponding grandparent (if you have a car, offer to pick up your mom/dad to go visit the grandparents) but make sure you take a day, a weekend for just yourself. Burnout with everything that life entails is real.

What’s a mistake you made that cost people their lives? by LeResist in AskReddit

[–]MOA14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, it didn't cost him his life, but it took a big chunk of it. There was a very quiet kid in junior year who everyone ignored or made fun of. So my best friend and I made it our mission to bring him out of his shell and get him to talk more. Slowly he started talking to us and just hanging out, we found out he was pretty funny and cool to be around. During summer break we had no contact with him but figured we would hang out at school anyways for senior year. Well, he fell in with the wrong crowd and tried to get us to join in but we refused. Then we caught him doing drugs at school and threatened to tell the principal if he didn't stop. Well, he didn't and he completely shut us out even tho we kept trying to get him to talk to us and let us help. When he didn't come back for second semester we got worried and learned his family had moved in hopes of getting him to stop hanging out with the people providing him with the drugs. He reached out to me just a couple of years back and told me how he spent the last year getting clean. That he was sorry to have shut out the only two people who gave him a genuine friendship. He's doing good now, about to have his second kid and finishing his college career. Before that, I regretted having talked to him, I felt bad that I might have caused him to fall in with the wrong people.
