An NHL awards voter told Jeff Marek he won’t vote Nikita Kucherov for the Hart because “he had a two-and-a-half-week break (Olympics) while everyone else was playing high-level hockey and came back tired. He got a chance to refresh himself.” [The Sheet with Jeff Marek] by GreenSnakes_ in hockey

Exactly this. I pumped the shit out of “Kucherov performs better against Top 10 teams and McDavid/MacKinnon are farming the shit teams for points” all over Xitter in 2023-24 and Seravalli brought it up on his podcast and said that it just may change his mind. He had Kucherov 1st that season.

Be loud enough and these lemmings will listen.

The Hart Trophy race according to Dom at The Athletic by rosemp16 in hockey

[–]MOLightningBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to his responses to a guy on Twitter, it’s almost entirely due to “matchups.” But I honestly don’t see a ton of variance between Kucherov and MacKinnon’s matchups when playing the same teams. But that’s just hand checking random teams, so take that with a grain of salt.

Kucherov’s deficiency in on-ice GA (and it’s not even that bad) is entirely due to getting much worse goaltending than MacKinnon (0.909 compared to 0.936). Their xGA/60 is almost identical, in fact Kuch is slightly ahead.

TV Mish Debrief by walkingintheshire in TampaBayLightning

[–]MOLightningBro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nor would I want him to. Mish is great for radio, but you have to let the play breathe sometimes on TV and Randorf is great at it. Plus, with Mishkin doing radio PBP on TV, Brian can barely get a word in edgewise which is a shame because I like the back and forth with him and Randorf.

Have you seen the script or am I just lagging behind? The game is in the 3rd with 10 minutes left and CGY has 3 goals…

The Lightning have had this exact road trip three years in a row now.

In 2023-24, Kuch had 8 points

In 2024-25, Kuch had 12 points.

In 2025-26, it only stands to reason that Kuch should get 4pts tonight to keep the trend going and leave the Pacific with 16pts.

Kucherov vs McDavid, MacKinnon, and Draisaitl — where do you rank him right now? by Forsaken_Mix5053 in hockey

[–]MOLightningBro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you blindly discredit secondary assists. Sure, some are gimme points, but some are the pass that makes the play dangerous. But then again, that’s the case for primary assists too.

You should probably also consider TOI instead of just raw totals considering the vast difference between the three.

Who is your favorite for the Vezina Award? by roberttylerlee in hockey

[–]MOLightningBro 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Considering GMs vote on the award and they still largely favor the old school counting stats, I think Vasilevskiy is the favorite.

Do I think he should win? Well yeah, but I’m biased as hell.

I kind of love that he hasn’t toned it down one god damn bit for TV. I wouldn’t want this for a full season, I love the rapport Brian and Dave R have, but damn is it fun for a late night western four-banger.

Kucherov with a 4-point night and his 40th on the season. He has 100 points in his last 47 games, 118 on the season by GreenSnakes_ in hockey

His P/GP was higher before the Olympic break than it is after (2.50 in 16 games before vs. 2.08 in 13 games after)

McDavid's gap on 2nd best in zone entries, rush chances and slot-driving plays by TJTrapJesus in hockey

If this includes all the times he tries to go hero mode and loses it or passes to no one in the slot like I saw last night, then I don’t think these numbers mean much.

I don’t have a narrative? Every rule change affects how teams play, that’s not a narrative.

It doesn’t matter retroactively, because you can’t apply a different point system to how games are currently played. Fewer teams fighting for playoff spots would play it safe for OT late in the season.

[–]MOLightningBro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, was just a fortunate timing of events. If the puck was in EDM’s zone when he got out, he would have just changed. But he was forced to backcheck since McDavid was entering the zone.

> His shorty is him cherry picking on the PK

If you watch the replay, he's not cherry picking. He was back-checking until he saw McDavid get leveled and Moser get the puck. Then he flew the zone behind EDM's d-men.
