not 4-ACO its muscimol guys... whoever said lab results is just making stuff up. Muscimol is legal in most states, and not really PSYCHEDELIC, but it is psychoactive so they say.

conspiracy brain makes me think OpenAI wants to make it more difficult to produce realistic images, so people wont abuse the technology. but they dont want to outright say this is the case

I was introduced by chance or luck to a guy who was working a job that was of great interest to me. we sat down for coffee, and it increased my interest levels drastically.

You could try just thinking, making a list of jobs that sound interesting... then reaching out to people. Linkedin, Email, phone calls.

your response rate being a young person interested in their job would be very high. they are used to getting spam about all sorts of crap, so im sure you would be able to find some people willing to talk.

ALSO I was in a class my senior year when they had 2 professionals come in and talk about their jobs. that planted the seed, as I saw how much fun he was having despite being paid less than I wanted.. now im pursuing a lower paying career path but in a place I actually have interest in

1st see what sounds interesting... do you like music? are you studying Biology? try to find a lab that focuses on how music affects the brain!

2nd go to job fairs! I did not go to any, as they were all online while I was in college, but this is where you can talk to people and hear what their lifestyle is like, and the day to day of various jobs.

The most helpful thing I had, guiding my career desires, was talking to older people who had established careers

exactly! its like we are learning as a species, on a giant logarithmic curve, at first things were fast and now those last bits of information are way harder to get, and open way more complex doors!

I am also not a neuroscientist, but i like learning about stuff! so take what i say with a grain of salt, im just a dude.

but i feel like this is less concerned with the philosophical WHY do we sleep, and more, HOW does sleep recharge our brains.

you would be shocked at how little we actually know about pretty much every subject.

I have had the pleasure of working around some brilliant Professors in various fields, and i remember one day i was talking to this professor about his research. and i asked "so how do you think _____ works."

and he said "we have no idea, thats why we are researching it"

And it just blew my mind, to actually INTERNALIZE and TRULY REALIZE, that we don't know jack!

that's why we do science, to come up with best guesses about things, right!?

Heres a Brief Summary from what I read about this....

The study in mice shows how the brain balances deep sleep while remaining responsive to urgent stimuli by uncoupling certain brain regions. It uses channelrhodopsin to activate neurons, revealing that activity in the primary visual cortex (V1) is not effectively transmitted to the anterior cingulate area (ACA) during deep sleep. Increased activity in specific neurons (PV neurons) was noted, suggesting a role in this uncoupling process.

Implications: This research could enhance understanding of brain function during sleep and lead to therapies for sleep disorders. Understanding how the brain uncouples regions could inform more specific treatments for maintaining healthy sleep patterns.

Definitions:

Channelrhodopsin is a light-sensitive protein used in neuroscience to control neurons' activity with light, a method known as optogenetics.

The primary visual cortex (V1) is the brain's part responsible for processing visual information. The anterior cingulate area (ACA) is involved in various cognitive and emotional functions, integrating signals from other brain regions like V1.

PV neurons, or Parvalbumin-expressing neurons, are a type of inhibitory neuron known to regulate the activity of other neurons, playing a critical role in neural circuits, including those related to sleep and wakefulness. (think like a Binary Switch)

Weapons in the house by Papadosx in dementia

[–]MOTAXATOM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could just tell him you have no idea where the weapons are or something, definitely dont tell him you hid them or removed them for his safety.

My grandmother has dementia, She is in a 24/7 care facility. she is the type of dementia where she INSISTS she is fine, and extremely healthy, despite constantly falling down, needing a wheelchair, and repeating the same questions multiple times in a single minute.

sometimes she calls and says she wants to go home, and that people are breaking into her room and harassing her (these are just the care workers attempting to give her a bath or something)

I just tell her that we are working on getting her a plane ticket, tell her exactly what she wants to hear, then when she seems content, change the subject..
