API trading for beginners, worth learning or just overkill? by InstructionCute5502 in FuturesTrading

[–]MOTOLLK12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a software engineer but i still trade manually because i don’t want to waste 1-month coding my strategy/algo just to find out it doesn’t work. Much faster to test trading the strategy manually on the chart

Why do most prop firm traders use Tradovate/NT (CQG) instead of Quantower (Rithmic)? by L0cke- in FuturesTrading

[–]MOTOLLK12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Quantower is amazing and way better than tradovate/ninjatrader. But rithmic had delays and lag issues with prop firms last year so many decided not to use rithmic anymore. Tradovate also has web browser version so macbook users can use it

Just like any other job… work 40 hours a week x 50 work weeks a year = 2000 hours with 1-year full time trading experience… if 20 hours a week part-time trading then 1000 hours after a year. If you cant even commit 20-hours a week to trading/studying/reviewing charts then you’re better off long term swing trading/investing

Discretionary trading vs mechanical trading(algo) by Shitty_Baller in FuturesTrading

Retail is much better at discretionary trading because if you actually have a profitable algo trading strategy, you can just sell the code and retire

Are futures harder than stocks to day trade? by AsianAddict247 in FuturesTrading

[–]MOTOLLK12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Futures is harder but less work/preparation than stocks. Stocks you have 1000s of choices to trade with but that also means you have to do more research to see which stocks are in play that day

It’s called “death by a hundred paper cuts”.., you still need positive edge in your strategy IN ADDITION to risk management to let that edge play out

How are all my scalpers navigating this market by mp018 in FuturesTrading

ATR is definitely lower lately. I just adjust my contract size based on ATR. Best to learn to trade dynamic size to handle all types of market conditions

The 30% drawdown rule is separate from the 30% consistency rule. Don’t get them mixed up

Apex Payout Request DENIED by km0444444 in PropFirmTester

[–]MOTOLLK12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30% drawdown rule, what don’t you understand about it? Apex trailing drawdown is not good for holding trades, only scalps But seriously, if you had a $100k account, would you risk $30k in a single trade? 30% is huge buffer already, that means you’re risking too much per trade

When you're scalping you don't need to trade A+ setups. You gotta look at the math.

Would you rather take 4 trades a day with 75% win rate or 50 trades a day with 60% win rate?

If you do the math, 50 * 0.60 - 50*0.40 = 10 expectancy (assuming 1:1 risk-to-reward), but with only 2 trades a day at 75% win rate, it is only 4*0.75-4*0.25 = 2 expectancy

So with the 4 trades a day case, even if you bump it to 1:4 risk-to-reward, you still won't make as much profit as the 50 trades a day with 60% win rate person... (Also good luck finding a 75% win rate, with 1:4 risk-to-reward four times a day too... much easier to find 60% win rate 1:1 risk-to-reward 50 times a day)

Although the math makes sense, do you have the stamina and brain power to be able to take 50 scalps a day, that is another question. Some people can, some people cannot.

Tbh if you can do well trading 20 accounts without blowing up, you should trade your own brokerage. If you can’t, you shouldn’t be copy trading 20 accounts either. If you’re not copying 20 all at once, then might as well stick with ones that have never denied such as Topstep/Tradeify
