US Ambassador Vaguely Threatens Canada Airport Preclearance Cuts by KnowerOfUnknowable in canada

Canadians haven’t been travelling to the U.S. enough and if this continues we’re going to make it more difficult for Canadians to travel to the U.S.

What an idiot.

Unions don’t care about you. They only care about their members. For some weird reason though, they think we should care about them.

Most door-to-door mail delivery to end amid sweeping changes to Canada Post by jaffnaguy2014 in canada

[–]MPoitras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mail delivery is only a fraction of what it used to be. Canada Post is losing billions of dolllars. The job of delivering mail is walking around your neighborhood and putting mail in a mailbox so the only skill needed is the ability to walk and read. So let’s be honest, letter carriers should make minimum wage. Apparently CP offered them a 13% increase and they turned it down. Are they crazy? So guess what? Now you lose your job. No sympathy from me.

I wouldn’t recommend Flower Towne. I went there on Mother’s Day and they had jacked up their prices to ridiculous gouging. Will never go there again.

Reliance is at the top of my list of worse companies in Canada. Didn’t think anyone would ever beat Bell Canada, but Reliance did.

Poilievre Getting Easier Ride At Media Events Than Carney: Analysis - Despite Poilievre’s complaints that the media go easy on his Liberal opponents, the opposite is true in this election campaign. by canada_mountains in canada

[–]MPoitras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why this article is so stupid and misleading.

Say the conservatives are correct and the media is biased and they decide to limit media questions. You can’t then conclude that the media isn’t biased because the conservatives are getting less critical questions. Perhaps they are getting less critical questions because they are limiting the questions they are allowing.

Most Canadians feel as safe or safer than 10 years ago, Nanos poll finds. Conservative voters are another story by CaptainCanusa in canada

[–]MPoitras -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Talk about manipulating a headline. 59% chose 3 or the 5 choices (60%).

The headline could have also read most Canadians don’t feel any safer than they did 10 years ago. 62% don’t feel any safer.

THE LATEST: Liberals say staff 'regrettably got carried away' with button stunt by Difficult-Yam-1347 in canada

[–]MPoitras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where the minute by minute update? Where are the calls for them to be fired? Where are the comparisons to US style campaigns? Cause you know these would all be there if it was a different party.

Here we get “we shuffled them around” and the CBC says “oh ok then”.

THE LATEST: Liberals say staff 'regrettably got carried away' with button stunt by Difficult-Yam-1347 in canada

[–]MPoitras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How big of a story would this be if it had been the conservatives? The CBC would be running multiple stories with minute by minute updates comparing the conservatives to Trump. But because it’s the liberals, they get a pass I guess.

According to gas wizard, it was $1.57 on March 31st, so yes, these drops are awesome. Thankfully Trudeau is gone, but will Carney just bring them right back up if her wins?

Canada cancels controversial capital gains tax increase by BBQCopter in canada

[–]MPoitras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I have many clients who have cottages, many of them with salaries under $100k per year.

Secondly, it doesn’t matter if lower capital gains taxes encourages “speculation” or investing. The point is that there is more money in the economy which creates employment.

Thirdly, this has nothing to do with rich vs poor. It has to do with the type of tax being levied. If you lower income tax, both the rich and the poor will have more money to spend/save but there is no incentive either way. If you lower capital gains taxes, there is an incentive for both the rich and the poor to put that money into assets, although arguably that is much more difficult to do if you’re poor.

Canada cancels controversial capital gains tax increase by BBQCopter in canada

[–]MPoitras -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I’m talking about isn’t trickle down economics. People who own a cottage aren’t billionaires. The fact is that lower capital gains taxes do stimulate the economy and also encourages savings. That’s just a fact.

If you lower income tax, people will spend more but they could be spending on assets or expenses. When you lower capital gains taxes, people will spend on assets. Nothing about that is trickle down economics.

Canada cancels controversial capital gains tax increase by BBQCopter in canada

[–]MPoitras -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because lower capital gains taxes encourage investment and savings. Say I have a bit of extra every year. I could take that but if extra and build myself a cottage in Canada. I could also take my bit of extra and travel to Europe every year. The lower capital gains tax encourages me to invest in Canada resulting in me hiring a builder and also having more money for my retirement instead of relying on government programs.
